  • Why No Black King?

by attending on 1/13/16Lincoln Theatre - COLUMBUSRating: 4 out of 5

The entire performance was magnificent - the usual chills up my spine from the words, the music, the performances and the theme. One surprise - and disappointment! Why was there no black king? This required changing one line in the script, which made no sense: "And one of them has a box"! In all of Columbus could the producers not find one African American Bass/Baritone who could have taken on this wonderful role? A puzzlement for me, who has seen Amahl religiously every year it was available since I saw the first amazing live TV performance in1951 in B&W!

  • Great performance!

My husband and I have not been to a theater for some time and this was a great experience! We so enjoyed the singing, the acting and stage management. Bravo! Also, we had heard about the "new" Lincoln Theater and were very impressed with everything. I especially liked how everyone helped us with coats, finding seats, etc. Thank you for the great experience!

  • Night Visitors Caused Nightmare

The chorus was the best thing about this performance. Chorus members sounded heavenly. Lead cast performances were comparable to a junior high school production.

Good voices. All actors were good. I did not find the opera particularly moving or beautiful.

Very well performed and directed reselling of the classic TV opera. The Kings were especially strong.

orchestra was great..... the mother was wonderful.......I felt that the opera was dumbed down.....I would have preferred to see the original time period as Menotti wrote it. The opera has a great story and did not need to be altered .......i think it detracted from the tension.
