The movie was great, and having the live orchestra and chorus along it, is wonderful. Nothing beats live music!!!
Amadeus is my all time favorite film. Mozart is my all time favorite composer. This idea of showing the film accompanied by a live orchestra is just fantastic. They show the film on a massive screen (with English subtitles) high above the stage. Beneath the screen is the orchestra and choir. The performance was so well done that I oftentimes forgot there was a live orchestra right in front of me. Their timing was perfectly matched to the film. I particularly liked the pianist. She did an amazing job. Well done! I really loved the scene where Constance brings Mozart’s portfolio to Salieri for review. As he’s flipping through the portfolio, you hear the music being played from each page. The orchestra transitioned seamlessly from piece to piece as he turned the pages. Just brilliant! I had goosebumps all the way through the performance.
venue and staff were great. orchestra were great. seating was great. film had subtitles which ruined the experience - my wife and i left at intermission
Just a really great movie with the added feature of a full orchestra and choir
It was marvelous to watch this movie with live music. The orchestra was fabulous, especially the oboe. We were disappointed that when the choir stood up, we couldn't see their faces, as they were behind the screen, from our angle at the front of the mezzanine. They sounded great. We'll know that for future shows we might attend and order seats on the floor level. While I was initially disappointed that the soloist parts weren't sung by live performers, I understand that it may have been difficult and very expensive to hire opera singers of that caliber.
The flawless melding and perfect timing of the film, choir and orchestra was truly exceptional. A wonderful evening that I did not want to end.
Overall the show was quite enjoyable and a new experience to see the Orchestra, however my seats were on the balcony and I couldn't see that there was a choir behind the orchestra due to the screen hanging centre stage. I could hear the voices and assumed it was coming from the movie. I missed out on the whole experience which would have been much better and very different had I known and been able to see the choir. I think everyone sitting on the balcony was deprived of the overall experience and quite frankly should get a refund. Perhaps only sell tickets to the lower level seating area or move the choir to an area for all to see.
The Orchastra was perfection. Only bad thing I could say is people were talking during the end credits and the orchestra was still playing beautifully. Nobody's fault but the jerks talking.
All around, a great evening, from the honoring of the donors and the classy name, The Soraya, to the toast at intermission, and all through the wonderful performance of the LA Chamber Orchestra and LA Opera chorus. The pianist's playing at the end though the credits was superb. Shout out to LA Chamber's flutist - gorgeous tone and phrasing! Thank you for a really special evening~
