Watching the Alvin Ailey dancers is like being transported to another planet. The choreography, music and flowing movement makes one appreciate what the human body can express.
The Alvin Ailey Dancers was so great, this was my first time seeing them, the colors the dance performers were excellent.
If you've never seen the Alvin Ailey Theater dancers perform, you've been missing out. If you have seen them before, than when do you plan to go again? Each performance strikes emotion(s): joy, sadness, hope, desire. What a different, and great entertainment option. The only thing that could make the show more exciting would be the accompaniment of a live orchestra. But it's an otherwise awesome show!
Please go this group, I saw them every year in chicago. I moved to alabama last year and I traveled to atlanta to see them. They are top quality dancers. They are very disciplined and very professional. I will see them again and again.!!!!
This was my first time seeing Alvin Aileys Dance Theater. The first part before intermission was just nice. The part after the intermission was WONDERFUL. It was Artistic and amazing.
I attended the 8PM performances on Friday and Saturday. It just happened that my seats were five rows from the rear on Friday and five rows from the stage on Saturday. Friday night was excellent in terms of subject matter and performers. Saturday, if refunds were available, I would have asked for my monies. There was nothing interesting or exciting about the routines-some portions were so boring that I had problems staying awake. Always the closing number in the last segment was of interest. You may have other supporters who are drowning, we can only "Wade In The Water" so many times. Don't you have other routines that will be well remembered.
I can't remember when I have enjoyed a production so much. The show is divided into 3 very distinct sections. The first is more non-traditional with group dancing to a female narrative where alot of history regarding Alvin Ailey and the dance troop is revealed. The second section is a tribute to Otis Redding. I love his music and found myself singing to each dance performance. The third section is more traditional Alvin Ailey style with beautiful dancing to our favorite negro spirituals. I simply cound not keep still in my seat! It was one of the best performances I have ever seen.
Performance was not long enough. The numbers performed were great but should have had more dances especially in second and third parts.
The dancing was excellent , really enjoyed the entire show.
I go every year and it keeps getting better. Inspirational, joyful, magnificent, historical, a MUST SEE!! Wouldn't miss it for the world. Wish I had gone everyday they were here. Will definitely go to more performances next year!
For year's I wanted to attent this event and finally this saturday I did. I recommend this show to everyone. Great for the entire Family! The dancers are awesome!
The show was great! The merge of the new material while keeping the traditional renditions was simply perfect.
The show was beyond GREAT! I enjoyed everything from beginning to end...Ailven Ailey American Dance Company captivates the soul of human beings across the globe..this dance company forever inspires me!
The show was great although I was expecting to see a ballet selection. I did how ever have a problem with whomever was over programs. There were not enough programs printed leaving several attendees upset. Also, the time that was given for intermission wasn't enough time to go get any refreshments considering once the doors were closed they were not letting people back in to see the show. Overall I left feeling proud of Alvin Ailey and how far we as a people have come and in that aspect I would have to say OUT STANDING!!
The performance was mesmerizing. The dancers, the colors, the choreography were all well done. Flawless! The Theatre was beautiful. Money well spent. I was entertained beyond words!
Growing up around the arts made me appreciate all genres of dance. I have been watching Alvin Ailey for many years now and I normally I really enjoy the performance. However, this year was not the same. I felt as though I was watching Ailey 2 instead of the main company. While the dancers' technique was out of this world, the passion and feeling behind the dance lacked conviction. I hope they bring back the company of the past!
The Alvin Ailey dance performance was awesome! I am from New York and have enjoyed Alvin Ailey's performances in Harlem for many years. This new show was vibrant, creative, innovative and inspiring. What a blessing it was to bring my 15 year old daughter and watch her face light up. She is a dancer, however she had no idea the depth and diversity of expression that Alvin Ailey dancers bring to their performances. While everyone was applauding, I looked over at her and she was not clapping. She was mesmerized. Her eyes were wide, wet and transfixed. It just brought tears to my eyes. Thank you Aivin Ailey Dance Theatre & Judith Jamison for wrapping a picece of our voices, culture and spirit into 3 hours of wonderful and for passing the torch of this wonderful legacy on to another generation. May Alvin Ailey live forever!
I go to see Ailey every year, and I am never disappointed. This was an amazing show. Revelations was performed with depth and passion. I hoped to see the new suite, Uptown, but I was highly satisfied with the Otis and Hymn.
The three sections of the performance were gracefully, artistically, and soulfully performed. The body movements articulated the script and lyrics so comprehensively.
It was a very nice show. I enjoyed it. This was the first time I've seen the Alvin Ailey Dance Theatre and it was enjoyable.
