Like their band name, the multi-faceted sound of British indie rockers Alt-J (∆) requires a bit of explaining. The name derives from the combination of keys that results in a delta sign (∆) on Mac computers; the sound – a combination of folk-pop, skittering polyrhythms, and soaring falsetto harmonies – results in happy critics and even happier listeners. The quartet formed in 2007 in a Leeds Metropolitan University dorm room, and the constraints of recording demos in a quiet study environment heavily influenced their hushed, intricate approach to indie rock. Their 2012 debut An Awesome Wave received the Mercury Prize, Britain’s most prestigious music award, and launched the band to indie stardom with singles “Breezeblocks” and “Fitzpleasure.” Alt-J are on tour in 2013, and ticket buyers can be sure that no matter how big the venue, the band will deliver the intimate live concert they’ve become known for.

First experience at this venue - very impressed with the quality of the sound (most importantly), the cleanliness, the conveniences (lavatories and bar) and the ease of check-in. Alt- J - music and lights - awesome (for the most part). People/crowd? not so good - Why do people come to a concert to talk and laugh - loudly!!!! - throughout the concert? and not about the music! A quiet, acoustic song is being played on stage and people are talking and laughing so loudly in the mezzanine that it could be heard at the stage! I have to wonder if this had an effect on the bands enthusiasm for playing and encore length? What can be done about guests who are disturbing the event for others?
Alt J was perfect, as always. The opening band crushed it. Ticketmaster is too expensive, as always.
Venue was awesome, crowd and energy they gave were amazing and alt-J reciprocated. I have been a fan of them for 8 years and this was a dream experience for me. My soul needed this concert and they did not disappoint. Got hyped with the crowd and truly appreciated the crowds enthusiasm. Will go again and again. Thank you alt-J
Great band, great show. Hope they come back! Would love to see them again
I honestly can’t put into words how amazing their performance was at The Salt Shed! The music, the lights, the harmonizing… just everything was absolutely perfect. I’ve been wanting to see them for YEARS and it definitely was above and beyond my expectations. My boyfriend went with me and didn’t really know much of their music. At the end of the show he said, “I didn’t like it… I LOVED IT!” They were so funny and kind as well! Can’t wait for the next show!
This was the first time being inside the Salt Shed. The acoustics were great!! In addition , Alt J put on an amazing performance. The anniversary performance of An Awesome Wave was just plain remarkable. The crowd was energized and engaging!! Can't wait for the next show I attend at the Salt Shed.
First time seeing alt-j and being at a sold out show. Salt shed was easily able to accommodate all the people and not feel overwhelmed with crowdedness
Alt-J always puts on the best show and the salt shed was a cool venue for it!
