About

Born to Panamanian parents in Los Angeles in 1979, E. Nathaniel Dawkins (aka Aloe Blacc) first began playing trumpet in elementary school, an instrument he continued throughout high school. There he also independently released Imaginary Friends, produced by DJ Exile, with whom he would go on to form the hip-hop group Emanon. While at college at USC, though his artistic endeavors were placed behind his scholastic goals, Aloe still managed to learn how to play the guitar and the piano, and after graduating and spending some time in the corporate world, he decided to return to his first love, music. In 2005 Emanon's full-length debut, The Waiting Room, came out on Shaman Works, and the next year his first solo album, Shine Through, a combination of neo-soul and Latin music, was released on Stones Throw. ~ Marisa Brown, Rovi

    Disappointed

by SJT on 9/4/23The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort - Lincoln

Aloe Blac is an amazing vocalist who unfortunately was over powered by the band and talked so much in between songs the audience started leaving. It is tough to follow Allen Stone (bought his Tshirt!) who is the epitome of soul and always connects with the audience. Aloe Blac would have been better as a solo concert in a small venue where he flugelhorn talk all he wanted to his own fans. But at this show where there were 3 artists, Allen Stone should have been the headliner.

    Awesome!

by bajajane on 8/14/17Levitt Pavilion SteelStacks - Bethlehem

This was my first time seeing Aloe in concert - and it was FANTASTIC! He's so talented and charming and sexy!! And man, does he know how to put on a show! He likens himself to Sammy Davis Jr. (at least as far as style goes) but I gotta tell you he reminded me a lot of Frank Sinatra (rat pack for sure!!) I also really liked how he got the audience engaged in the show without all of the cliche things most performers do (i.e. mention the town name like 100 times) I especially liked that he told so many stories. He's officially on my list now for performers I need to see live as much as possible.

    One of those great nights!

by LspListen on 6/7/17Del Mar Fairgrounds - Del Mar

We keep playing Aloe Blacc songs over and over and replaying the fun night - we would see him again in a heartbeat. Great vocals, stage presence, he and his band had fun so did the audience. We just were watching the NBA playoffs and noticed the intro to The Man prelude as opening music!

    Beautiful Uplifting and Positive!!!!

by Puwa on 10/26/15Morongo Casino Resort and Spa - Cabazon

Aloe was a great live performer. He was very interactive, beautiful positive songs, and told a story behind each song. The setting was also smaller which made it more intimate.

    Great show!

by Musiklover08765 on 10/26/15Morongo Casino Resort and Spa - Cabazon

Aloe Blacc put on a great concert! He sounds the same in person as he does on his albums. He interacted with the crowd and told little anecdotes about his life and his music which I thought were a nice touch. The venue was only about 50% full, but he didn't seem to let that faze him and proceeded to put on a nice show for those of us who were there. I recommend seeing him at least once.

    Great Artist / Horrible Venue

by jog4life on 10/26/15Morongo Casino Resort and Spa - Cabazon

Aloe Blacc is a magician. He made that lifeless Hall come alive. I am going to see him again, but unless an all time great plays in the Ballroom , I would never see another show there.

    Esnavi at Summerfest 2015

by nhs76 on 7/4/15BMO Harris Pavilion - Milwaukee

We bought these Summerfest passes so we could see jazzy, soulful song-stylist Esnavi, the NYC-based performer who was the opener for Aloe Blacc at the BMO Harris stage. Her set was terrific, with songs from her 2011 album "Exit E" as well as covers by Amy Winehouse, Cee Lo Green, etc. Recommended!

    "The Man"...indeed, HE was.

by fundiz on 5/27/14Emerald Queen Casino - Tacoma

When you attend a concert, great sound quality and ambiance is expected. Emerald Queen's concert hall was nothing short of this. The lighting was perfectly mood setting and seats completely comfortable. I may have found my new favorite concert venue.

by JennNette on 5/26/14Emerald Queen Casino - Tacoma

the venue wasn't the best, but the show was awesome...I do wish it went on a little longer, it seemed a little short. But maybe I was just having so much fun, that time flew by :)
