About

Almost Queen on Tour

An Almost Queen show is a mix of theater, history, costumes, chops, nostalgia, harmonies, some of the most popular songs of all time and, of course, one iconic mustache. Intensely devoted, Almost Queen perform Queen's beaming four-part harmonies, blasting out faithful renditions of hits like "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," "We Are the Champions," "Under Pressure," "Radio Ga Ga," "Don't Stop Me Now" and the occasional deeper cut. They even do a live rendition of the baroque, operatic bridge of "Bohemian Rhapsody," something Queen themselves did not perform without some recording assistance. Emerging from New York in 2005, this tribute band have brought Queen's canon of triumphant arena songs to the intimate settings of clubs and theaters — not to mention stops in Peru, Mexico, the Dominican Republic and Trinidad.

Almost Queen in Concert

Billing their act as "THE most authentic Queen live show since the days of Queen themselves," Almost Queen came not from England but from New York, keeping the legacy of Freddie Mercury and Queen alive in sound and vision. More than just Queen fans, many members of Almost Queen have serious performance bona fides. Joseph Russo (who performs as vocalist Freddie Mercury) toured as the lead in a European production of Hair. The other members — Steve Leonard (as guitarist Brian May), Randy Gregg (as bassist John Deacon) and John Cappadona (as drummer Roger Taylor) — have résumés that individually feature them touring or playing with hard rock artists like Thin Lizzy, Angel, Lauren Harris and Twisted Sister's Dee Snider. The band have appeared on Jim Breuer's Sirius radio show and were the subject of "Queen: Keeping the Spirit of Freddie Alive," an episode of the series Tribute Bands airing on E! in Canada. Iconic rock fan Howard Stern even once quipped, "These guys are even better than the Queen that's out there touring."

    Great show

by Anonymous on 3/2/12B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

The show was really great. The lead singer acted and stayed in character the whole time, very energetic and kept us all entertained. The musicians were really amazing. I was concerned that they wouldn't really sound authentic but they absolutely did. It was 100% spot on what you are used to hearing. A raucous great night of playing pretend!

THE SHOW WAS NOTHING SHORT OF AMAZING!!!!!! As a very devoted QUEEN fan who has attended approximately 30 of their concerts, I could not have been more impressed. It truly was like almost being there. Joseph Russo has obviously worked very hard to capture every gesture and nuance of Freddie' s that we so loved and so desperately miss. THANK YOU ALMOST QUEEN FOR A SPECTACULAR SHOW!!!

I didn't know what to expect and was hoping for the best, well let me tell you, Almost Queen does not disappoint. The real Queen would be entertained. Their look, the energy and most of all their talent was amazing. Joe Russo is outstanding and has channeled Freddie Mercury's charisma, you cannot go and not have a good time, don't miss it! Each member of the band came out at the end of the show and took pics with the fans, they are really nice guys too.

    Almost Queen/Almost Real

by Ostrow on 7/19/11B.B. King Blues Club and Grill - New York

I come to see this band every time they play @ bb kings. The first time was about 4yrs ago on a tuesday night. As a lifelong Queen fan Iwas really excited. That night BB Kings was packed, and the band did not dissapoint.Joey Russo(Freddie Mercury)said for a tuesday night you must all be really big Queen fans, and proceeded to perform songs that I love. They did Father to Son,Seven Seas of Rhye, the early music that I fell in love with.I just wish they would do more songs from Queen & Queen 2,two of the greatest rock albums ever.Other than that they did not dissapoint me again.I think thay have even gotten better, the more they play together.
