Alice Merton In Concert
Going on tour doesn't present any major challenges for rising star Alice Merton, and you might even say she's been preparing for it her entire life. In fact, the singer's breakout hit, "No Roots," was written in response to a childhood that involved moving 12 times in 24 years as the daughter of a British mining consultant and a German mother with wanderlust. Merton's self-released upbeat synth-pop track translated the singer's mixed feelings about her nomadic family life into an uplifting viral anthem, setting the stage for the early-2019 release of her debut album, Mint.
Born in Frankfurt, Germany, in 1993, Merton spent her childhood in Connecticut and her early teens in Ontario, Canada, before returning to Germany with her family. She lived in England, where her parents finally settled, but returned to Germany yet again to study composition and songwriting at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg in Mannheim, where she met members of her future band.
Merton turned heads with her appearance on German pop group Fahrenhaidt's 2015 album, The Book of Nature. The following year, she won Hamburg's "Jugend kulturell Förderpreis" (Youth Cultural Promotion Award) for most talented acoustic-pop newcomer.
Merton moved to Berlin and recorded "No Roots," which she released on her own Paper Plane label in 2016. The single became an international hit thanks to its disco groove, rocking guitar, and whooping chorus, with more than 125 million streams to date, and it reached No. 1 on U.S. Alternative, Triple A, and Rock Airplay charts. The EP No Roots followed in 2017 and contained the grunge-pop track "Lash Out" and energetic motivational anthem "Hit the Ground Running."
In late 2018, after guesting on "Half As Good As You" by British pop sensation Tom Odell, the Berlin-based citizen of the world released "Funny Business" and "Why So Serious?," dance-floor friendly tracks from her forthcoming Mint that provided still more hints as to what was going on inside this talented pop nomad.

Alice shared the stories of her songs and a part of her life. It was very touchfull and the size of the Bowery Ballroom made it intimate. A real presence on stage made this concert memorable.
This was her first stop in the United States in 5 years and it was worth the wait! This was a fun, high-tempo, and high-energy evening of music! She had the audience in her hands the entire night! She played music from her first album, "Mint", and her new EP "heron". She was clearly having fun and enjoyed seeing a live American audience again! I highly recommend!
The show was incredible. Alice and the band were amazing. Alice interacted with the audience. Then after the show she signed autographs for fan’s. And took the time to really talk to each one. Which is really sweet. So in closing. If you have a chance to see Alice Merton and the band. Go. PS The opening act was a local artist named Rachel Brassie who was terrific. .
Alice Merton and her band just blew my mind. I walked into this venue, which is the smallest I've been to in over 25 years going to see the biggest names among bands and solo artists in amphitheaters, arenas, and stadiums. For those of you who have been to The Atlantis, it's this nice small DC venue where you expect to see the coffee house acoustic/alternative artists. I'm very familiar with Alice Merton and her live performances, which are very uplifting and energetic, so such a small venue seemed quite out of place. Regardless, she somehow made it work. Even though this was a venue for less than 500 people, it felt like a stadium show in an intimate atmosphere. Alice is a superb perfomer who knows how to engage and captivate and audience. I highly recommend checking her out.
Alice Merton is the most underrated singer songwriter out there. Her music is amazing. But…seeing her perform live is pure entertainment. She is there to entertain the crowd and does she ever! Go see her live!
First the Atlantis is a great club. About 500 frentic fans went wild for Alice and it was well deserved. She and the band played the hits, she talked to the crowd often sharing details of her life, it was intimate and fun. The guitarist switched from lead to base guitar often so that was unique and maybe left the sound slightly "less". The band should not wait another 5 years before coming back and hopefully graduate to the 9:30 Club where more people will be able to see the band.
Waited 5 years to see her and drove 6 hours to get there. It was all worth it! Not only is she an amazing performer but she is humble and real. Alice adored her fans and was so honest about how she felt. She even did a meet and greet! I hope she returns and does more locations. Get to her shows if you can. You will be amazed!
I went May 7 for my birthday. I was in the NY show in 2024 it was awesome I got a signed poster (that said happy birthday!) and a picture with Alice Merton herself. Perfect 13th birthday gift. I had a great time and would do this again.
Loved her energy. Can’t wait to hear her new songs.
