About

Alice in Chains in Concert

Five years after their original frontman, Layne Staley, died of a drug overdose, Alice in Chains made an unlikely return in 2007. Surviving band members Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez, and Sean Kinney recruited frontman William DuVall to join the group, first for some well-received concerts, then to go on tour. Next came a new album, 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue," which got glowing reviews, entered The Billboard 200 at No. 5, and led to more shows with fast-moving tickets. In 2013,  the band released their second post-Staley album, this time reaching No. 2 on The Billboard 200. The only AIC album to chart higher was 1995's self-titled set -- the band's last with Staley -- which reached No. 1.

Alice in Chains' dark take on rock emerged from the same late '80s Seattle scene that also spawned fellow grunge acts Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden, among others. With Staley at the helm, the band recorded rock radio staples like "Rooster," "Heaven Beside You," "Got Me Wrong," and "Would?"  The band has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards -- including two with DuVall on the mic -- but so far haven't won an award.

Hard rock legends Korn and Alice in Chains announced an epic co-headline amphitheater tour across North America in the summer of 2019. Underoath joins as special guest on all dates, with Ho99o9 and FEVER 333 opening on select dates.

    Alice in Chains rules

by Gofnutz on 9/17/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

This was only the second time I got to see AIC and it was amazing. They rocked out from the get go and never let up. Their new lead singer William Duvall sounds so much like Layne Staley its uncanny. I'd be willing to bet that no other band from their era could put on a show that is as good as they were last night. The House of Blues is such a nice intamate setting for a show, I'd much rather see any band there as opposed to a big arena.

    Awesome show

This show was great. The venue was a little cramped, but it was an intimate setting and made for a great night. These guys are fantastic live.

Alice in Chains were simply awesome!

by boombaboy3456 on 9/17/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

This performance was simply amazing. If there was any doubt that Alice in Chains had lost their touch after not having an album out in 15 years, this performance but doubters to rest. While original singer Layne Staley will forever be missed, new lead vocalist William DuVall brought a freshness to the bands new songs as well as eerily hitting Staley's notes in older songs. The concert was a great celebration of the past as well as new horizons to come.

    Alice in Chains prevail again

by JeremyCFH on 9/17/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

Tonight at the House of Blues here in Cleveland, I saw Alice in Chains for the second time. The first time I saw them was in November 2006, also at the House of Blues here in Cleveland & just like the last time I saw them, the House of Blues was sold out. This time there was no horrible corporate buy-on opening band thankfully, just An Evening with Alice in Chains, which was fine with everyone in the audience, myself included. Alice in Chains, as many of you know have a great new singer by the name of William DuVall, who's been singing for AIC since they reunited in 2006 alongside Sean Kinney who's been their drummer since their inception, Mike Inez who joined the band in 1993 & of course Jerry Cantrell on guitar who in my opinion, if any one person is AIC, it's Cantrell. Just like when I saw them three years ago, AIC were a tight & cohesive unit that will continue playing great in the years to come. As I walked into HOB, there were lots of signs warning you that strobes would be in full effect, which they were as they added depth for the songs & weren't just being used just for the sake of having lots of lights used. Over the years, as its known by those closest to me that I've been big Alice in Chains fan since I was 13 years old, one of the things that I've dug about Alice in Chains was just like their friends Pantera who hit it big around the same time as Alice in Chains, Rush in the 70's & Metallica in the 80's, Alice in Chains broke out in a big way while staying true to themselves & maintaining their artistic integrity, which is not an easy thing to do in the music business. Here's a fun fact I wonder how many of you knew this, of the big four that broke out of the Seattle scene in the early 90's (AIC, Nirvana, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam), Alice in Chains were the first ones to get a gold record. All in all, I'm grateful I've gotten to see Alice in Chains again. They said at the end they'll be back in Cleveland & I know that I'll be there. For anyone that hasn't seen them yet, I recommend seeing them in the highest regard.

    Alice in Chains

by Scoochie21 on 9/17/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

The show was awesome! They sound so good. Without a doubt the best sounding concert I have ever seen. They are not much with theatrics, but they don't need it.

    Alice In Chains Rocked!!!!

by ffisher21 on 9/17/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

Alice In Chains At the House of Blues Cleveland was by far one of the best shows I have ever seen!! From start to finish they rocked non-stop. A great night of A.I.C. classics mixed with songs from their soon to be released new album Black Gives Way to Blue.

ALICE IN CHAINS ROCKS THE "HOUSE"

by CHOPPERBOB on 9/17/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

A.I.C. Opened with a powerful Rain when I die and the never looked back. They pulled all the great songs from Dirt, Face Lift, Sap, Jar of flies, and even a song from their last album with Lane. I took my 15 year old soon to this show and he thought they sounded great. I know I'll catch some heat from some for saying this but the one thing I notice about the shows with William is how much fuller the guitar sounds with him playing rhythm and Jerry playing the leads. I noticed a difference between the 1st. tour with William and this tour, although he still sounds a lot like Lane it didn't seem like he was impersonating him like i felt he was doing in 07. The band seems to really enjoy playing live which was something they found difficult to do with Lane and you could tell they were having fun as the crowd was singing every word to every song back to them as loud as they could. 2 of the new songs seem like the fit perfectly with the old songs although I'm not sure if I'm sold on Acid Bubble the crowd seemed to react the same as I did. All in all if your a true A.I.C. fan and you get the chance to see them on this tour go with an open mind we all miss Lane and nobody sings with the same passion as he did but this is as close as it gets to the original.

    AIC - Rocked it!

by Jaynesez on 9/17/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

Love Alice in Chains. They sounded fantastic. The new lead singer, Wm Duvall, is great at recreating Layne, yet has a unique quality all his own. They will do well and I can't wait to get the CD.

    chains rip through their catalog

by speed274 on 9/17/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

casually walked on stage, picked up their instruments on started playing rain when i die, awesome opener. the setlist was basically the dirt cd with a little facelift thrown in (love, hate love was a surprise and duvall pulled it off) and then three new songs check my brain, a looking in view and acid bubble.they also did nutshell and another surprise (sludge factory). seeing them perform the song dirt as an oncore was the icing on the cake for me. rooster finished the set and it was back to the car and back to the burgh and home by midnight. as always great roadtrip to cleveland.

AIC rocked the house of blues!!

by 90schick on 9/17/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

I am a Alice in Chains purist with my pivotal teenage angst years being in the 90's... I was leary going into the show because of the new front man Will but I tried to be open minded because I know Layne is gone and I LOVE Jerry Cantrell... Will rocked the show! I never got to see AIC when Layne was the front man so this was finally my chance and I was blown away.. I gave 4 stars instead of 5 because of all the readio friendly AIC songs that were played (although I love them all there are far better songs!) I know they have to play the radio friendly ones to pull the "new generation" of AIC fans into the light and they are coming out from a long pause. Will and Jerry you rocked the house!!!!!!
