About

Alice in Chains in Concert

Five years after their original frontman, Layne Staley, died of a drug overdose, Alice in Chains made an unlikely return in 2007. Surviving band members Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez, and Sean Kinney recruited frontman William DuVall to join the group, first for some well-received concerts, then to go on tour. Next came a new album, 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue," which got glowing reviews, entered The Billboard 200 at No. 5, and led to more shows with fast-moving tickets. In 2013,  the band released their second post-Staley album, this time reaching No. 2 on The Billboard 200. The only AIC album to chart higher was 1995's self-titled set -- the band's last with Staley -- which reached No. 1.

Alice in Chains' dark take on rock emerged from the same late '80s Seattle scene that also spawned fellow grunge acts Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden, among others. With Staley at the helm, the band recorded rock radio staples like "Rooster," "Heaven Beside You," "Got Me Wrong," and "Would?"  The band has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards -- including two with DuVall on the mic -- but so far haven't won an award.

Hard rock legends Korn and Alice in Chains announced an epic co-headline amphitheater tour across North America in the summer of 2019. Underoath joins as special guest on all dates, with Ho99o9 and FEVER 333 opening on select dates.

    Awesome!!!

    by R8rfan on 9/21/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee

This was my first time seeing Alice in Chains, and they put on a great show. The only thing is I thought it was a little short, but that's no problem. Jerry Cantrell is awesome!!!

    AIC Rocked the House!

    by Tool53343 on 9/21/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee

Very enjoyable gig. They were great, and they played between 2 and 2 1/2 hours! Duvall assured the crowd that they would be back to Milwaukee in the future. I hope so!

    Alice In Chains Rocked!

    by Sassy61 on 9/21/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee

Good stuff...the sound and lighting was amazing. Alice in Chains played well known favorites, like "Man in the Box" "The Rooster" etc...., and some from their upcoming new album that will be out in 8 days. Love the leads voice, and the instrumentals were great. The Eagles Ballroom was a great venue as well...tons of people there yet room to move, everyone was polite and orderly and rocking out!

Alice in Chains? I'm in if she is!!!

    by ViolintViolet on 9/21/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee

Okay, amazing show. AMAZING. I've been waiting almost 16 years to see Alice in Chains, and this show was worth the wait. Sound: awesome. Crowd: awesome. Set list: almost perfect. I do have to admit a bit of disappointment with the fact that they didn't play any of my 3 favorite songs: Junkhead, Down In a Hole, and Heaven Beside You. But I guess that just means I'll have to see them again! Overall, an incredibly great show. Dare I say, the best ever? Maybe if I had heard my song!

    Back to the well...

    by ultramegafilms on 9/21/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee

It takes a trip back in time to actually get some good rock. They played a great show and were enthusiastic. New singer has an amazing voice, and it gets better every time I hear him. The band played a technically amazing show, and they weren't afraid to dig deep and go to some great tracks from the beginning of their career. They respect the fact that Layne is gone. It's a little depressing when it hits you at the show, but you never feel guilty because the guys respect their situation, and it would be horrible for them not to make music together. Lots of drunken idiots, so wear something comfortable and go with the flow.

AIC is always a great show.

by ThunderSkunk on 9/21/09House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Everytime I've seen AIC in Chicago, it's always been a great show. The band does a fantastic job. They play all of their popular stuff, some of the less-so popular stuff for the die-hards, and then brings in a few new songs. I've seen them at other venues over the years and they are always great. The only negative thing I can say about this is it feels like the House of Blues oversold this event. It was all general admission and it was so packed there was barely enough room to pick your arms up. Forget trying to go to the bathrooms after buying a couple $8 drinks. I guess that's the price to pay for a small venue where you can really see the band so well.

    Alice in Chains rocked!

by MMF73 on 9/21/09House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

The House of Blues was a perfect venue to see Alice in Chains. Intimate setting and not a bad seat in the house. I was able to watch from 3 rows off the stage and it was amazing to be that close. Such an awesome band to see up close.

    Alice In Chains

    by BEATLESman1988 on 9/21/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee

Great show! Alice In Chains rocks, and live, their songs grab you and pull you in. It didn't get too crazy with mosh pits or anything, which I think is a good thing. It was definitely a lot of fun.

    Love Chains!

    by steingirl on 9/21/09Eagles Club/The Rave/Eagles Ballroom - Milwaukee

I was a little skeptical going in with no Layne, but they did not disappoint! William Duvall is a great band leader with fantastic stage presence. He doesn't try to be Layne, he stays true to the older AiC yet makes it his own. By the end of the show they were all into it, laughing and having fun. I have been following Chains ever since they started and I will keep following them. I can't wait until they come back so I can see them again!

    Impressed

by Nikki1972 on 9/20/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

Over the years I have seen Alice in Chains with Lane and seeing them with the new singer was better than I ever expected. He is an excellent addition, not replacement, for an irreplaceable talent like Lane. ABSOLUTELY GO SEE THEM!

Too many links for Alice In Chains

by ImNotWillie on 9/20/09House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Alice In Chains at the House of Blues September 19, 2009. It was a concert that many were REALLY looking forward to, myself included. The reunited Alice In Chains. New singer. New songs. First time playing in a Chicago club in about a decade. Sold out show. It had the all makings to be an awesome concert...but it wasn't. The band was fantastic, don't get me wrong. They sounded as good as ever. Layne Staley would be proud to have William Duvall singing his words and fronting his band. I heard more than one person in the crowd comment on how much Duvall sounded like his predecessor. They played most of the fan favorites, most of their singles, and threw in some new tunes from their upcoming album. All sounded great and were performed with heart and feeling. You could tell the band was loving playing on stage for their fans again. The only problem was a lot of their fans weren't having the best time trying to see the band. I went to this show with a friend of mine, and between us we've probably seen over 300 concerts in the past 15 years. We both felt that this was one of the worst concert going experiences we'd ever had. First my friend wasn't allowed in because he forgot his ID in the car. This was a 17 and over show. My buddy is 31 years old and could NEVER pass for 16 or under. He wasn't drinking and could have easily been given a pass, but he was forced to walk back to the car and miss the first couple songs of the night. Second, the show had to be over sold. I've probably been to the Chicago House of Blues around 75 times, many of which were sold out shows, and I've never been so cramped, so unable to move, and so unable to see the stage in my life. For whatever reason the HoB decided to close the raised platform in front of the main bar in the back to the general public. This move alone probably forced a good 60-75 people that should've been standing up there down to the floor, the aisles, the stairs, and wherever they could go. It was impossible to see or even try to move somewhere to see better. We spent most of the night watching the concert on TV, getting beer spilled on us because people couldn't move, and finally leaving early. Just an overall terrible job by the House of Blues in almost every aspect. The HoB used to be my favorite place to see a show, but after last night I can't say that anymore. I don't know if I will be back anytime soon.

Alice In Chains put on a truly amazing show. I almost cried. After one song I was convinced that William Duvall was a great addition to the band.

    AIC HOB

by fender02 on 9/20/09House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Alice In Chains returned to Chicago with an excellent show to a sold out audience on 9/19. The band sounded as great as ever. The show included several new songs from the upcoming album. It was great to hear the old favorites, which the new lead singer William DuVall has embraced as his own. Don't miss the chance to see them. We can only hope that they return for a larger venue tour in 2010.

    wow!!!!!!!!!

by jjprogger on 9/17/09House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

i never would have thought that another singer could carry alice in chains. i still love the passion that layne sang with, but william has more of the stage presence. this foursome has the ability to rewrite the alice in chains moniker in a new way that can be bigger than ever. "the black sabbath of seattle"

This was by far the second best concert I have been to Pink Floyd being the first. Layne can't be replaced but William did a kick ass proformance. I will go see them again when they return hopefully real soon.
