Ali Sethi on Tour

Pakistani singer/songwriter, composer and author Ali Sethi creates infectious music that blends genres, challenges traditional gender roles and has amassed a huge international audience with its infectious rhythms and global themes.

Sethi was included on TIME magazine's Next 100 list in 2022 and was praised for his use of ancient forms of music "to challenge and expand notions of gender, sexuality, and belonging."

His song "Pasoori" with co-vocalist Shae Gill has been streamed on YouTube more than 400 million times and he's known to have a huge following in India.

Sethi's live performances combine traditional ancient and baroque elements with modern synths and keyboards and provide warmth and inspiration on even the bleakest of days. Be sure to catch Ali Sethi live when he comes to a city near you.

Ali Sethi Live in Concert

Ali Sethi was born and raised in Pakistan in the 1980s and is the son of two award-winning journalists. When Sethi was 14, his father was arrested for allegedly making a "treasonous speech" in India, and was later acquitted and awarded Amnesty International's Journalist of the Year Award.

Sethi grew up in a household where his mother and father were always playing music, although he wasn't initially interested in the music lessons that his mother signed him up for when he was 8.

Later inspired by Noor Jehan's Punjabi songs and traditional South Asian music, he naturally developed his singing talents with encouragement from his mother and to impress his parents' friends at social gatherings.

He later trained for 12 years with gurus of voice in his native Lahore, Pakistan. To attend college he relocated to the East Coast in the U.S. and graduated from Harvard University. He later relocated to New York and made a name for himself as an author, publishing The Wishmaker, his debut novel in 2009. Telling complex and compelling stories both on the page and in his music, Sethi adeptly blends inspiration from ancient sources with a modern aesthetic. As Sethi says, "I load my songs with baroque themes and metaphors because they allow for multiple interpretations. It's a gloriously campy worldview that gave me solace as an out-of-place kid in Pakistan."

    Bahut khoob

by S. A. on 2/21/23The Fillmore Silver Spring - Silver Spring

There’s no doubt Ali’s talent is innumerable. Me and my family with some friends throughly enjoyed the concert. I wish, we wouldn’t have bought the wrong kind of tickets and had to pay double for it. Although, his redemptions of Ghazals. Specifically Mehndi Hasan Sahab’s ghazals is unmatchable but hoping to hear some more from him with some new music. Hoping he would visit soon. Ali, you’ve converted my Amreekan desi bacchey (teenagers) into Ghazal listeners. 😍

    Subpar sound

by Janine on 1/27/23Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

We are fans of Ali Sethi and were disappointed that the sound was absolutely awful. Heavy reverb and bass and we could barely hear Ali Sethi's voice and the instruments, everything was just a fuzzy echo. We stuck around for maybe half the show and then gave up and left

Sethi top notch; HOB not so much

by mrsgurung on 1/24/23House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Big display screen stayed down throughout the show which was a HUGE NUISANCE. Tech snafu like that completely ruins the experience, especially in an intimate, multi-floor setting like HOB. Sethi on the other hand was magical.

    Ticket pricing

    by on 1/22/23Saint Andrew's Hall - Detroit

The description of the ticket was deceptive. We bought 220$ ticket but when we reached there we were told there is no difference between 8$ and 220$ tickets, as this is basically a standing room only event. The company won’t even refund you.

    Incredible performance

by Priyanka on 1/22/23House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Had a fantastic time at the show. Ali was wonderful, witty, energetic, and engaging. Loved his style of interweaving songs with commentary, context, and jokes! The crowd was great and we all had a great vibe going. This did not affect me personally, but unfortunately, a large section of the audience had an obstructed view of the artist and the stage due to a stuck projector screen. Ali went out of his way to step up to the edge of the stage so everyone could see him. He shouldn't have had to do this -- the venue management at HOB Chicago should have had a manual back up for these situations.

    Amazing concert

by Aly on 1/21/23House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Great vibe. Great concert. Artist was great. Issue was the screen was down for all the concert. The house of blues management should have made sure the screen goes up. No one was responsive.

Awesome experience but screen ruined the show

by Fan on 1/21/23House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

It was a awesome experience listening to Ali Sethi live. But projector screen which got stuck, blocked 80% of screen view. We had booked balcony tickets and couldn't see anything. Issue was not fixed at all.

House of Blues stage screen not working

by Sid on 1/21/23House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Ali Sethi is one of my favorite singers and I was really looking forward to the concert. As soon as the concert started and the stage curtains were drawn, it turned out that the screen in front of the stage had some ‘technical issue’ and it couldn’t be rolled up! We could see nothing and it completely ruined the entire experience! Part of listening to someone live is to be able to see them and take in the stage and the lights and everything that adds up to the performance. I was really disappointed and I’m sure it was tough for the artist himself too as he could barely see the audience and had to come out right to the edge of the stage and that meant he couldn’t see his band or play the keyboard. Throughout the concert, we couldn’t even see the band and that was sad and unfair to them too. The staff at House of Blues was friendly and accommodating, but I wish they could’ve taken a few minutes and actually fixed this issue because it really ruined the night for everyone. Apart from that Ali Sethi himself was phenomenal as always.
