Ali Gatie on Tour

Since 2017, Iraqi-Canadian heartbreaker Ali Gatie has been releasing a steady stream of singles that have established him as Toronto's new crown prince of after-hours R&B. But following the release of his conceptual nine-song release, YOU, in late 2019, Gatie is now making the transition from the bedroom to the stage. In January 2020, he made his live debut before a sea of smartphones at Toronto's Mod Club Theatre, backed by a four-piece band and a psychedelic mural to enhance the heady vibe of his fever-dream serenades. And as that performance proved, Gatie's achingly intimate serenades are magically transformed into cathartic group-therapy exercises when there's a club full of fans shouting them back at the stage.

Ali Gatie in Concert

Born in Yemen in 1997 to Iraqi parents, Ali Gatie spent his early childhood in Abu Dhabi before his family settled in the Toronto suburb of Mississauga when he was 10. Inspired by the amorphous R&B of Frank Ocean, Gatie embarked on his own home-studio experiments while still in his teens and, much to the chagrin of his parents, dropped out of university to make music his full-time pursuit. After self-releasing tracks to SoundCloud and winning a RhymeStars online song contest (judged by rapper Joe Budden), Gatie signed a deal with Warner Brothers that led to first breakthrough single, "Without You," a moody acoustic ballad that racked up millions of streams on Spotify and YouTube. But that was just the warm-up for his 2019 blockbuster "It's You," which began as a phone voice memo he sent to a girlfriend that was never intended for public consumption. An international Top 40 hit that's generated over 350 million Spotify streams, "It's You" served as the opening track to Gatie's debut mini-album, YOU. Fusing his signature finger-snapping, unplugged R&B sound with more abstract soundscapes, the record confirmed that Gatie possessed a bold artistic vision to match his innate gift for instant earworms. In early 2020, he scored his first two Juno Award nominations in the Fan Choice and Breakthrough Artist of the Year categories.

Ali Gatie has played shows at The Fillmore (Detroit) and The Fillmore (Philadelphia), and has brought the Buckhead Theatre (Atlanta) and the Varsity Theater (Minneapolis) to capacity.

    Artist and staff>venue

by Kyle on 11/13/22The Echo Lounge & Music Hall - Dallas

Ali was great but there were so many issues with audio nearly every single song the audio would just completely cut out and shut off The performances were amazing I have no complaints The staff were all very helpful and nice But that audio problem was a major mood killer

    Got what I paid for

by Lari on 11/13/22The Echo Lounge & Music Hall - Dallas

Venue was small but perfect size for this event. Concert was advertised as "family friendly" however bar was open and busy. Opening act with Johnny Orlando was sad to watch as lights weren't working and music cut off multiple times. He did his best to keep his composure but could tell he was rattled. Lights were better for main concert and Ali sounded great except for when his music/mic stopped working. If I was part of the singer's teams, I'd be pissed. Get it together, Echo.

    Ali gatie :))

by Ally on 11/8/22The Van Buren - Phoenix

So it was my first concert and i LOVE LOVE LOVE ALI GATIE. i was a little upset that there wasn’t any meet and greet passes:( But we were in GA and near the front of line which was pretty good. The only this is I didn’t like how long he made us wait for him. Johnny orlando performed and after that he made us wait 20-30 more mins so an hour and a half and he’s finally out. PEOPLE START PUSHING US AND TRYING TO GET THE TO STAGE. i’m young and some 40 year old mom cussed and yelled at me with her husband (he was like almost 7 feet and big as hell) i cried bc i was overwhelmed i just couldn’t stand anywhere without anyone complaining and telling me to move. THERES NO ASSIGNED SPOT. THEY CAN MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE. i’m 5’1 and deserve a closer spot. smh. Other than the people it was amazing. just a little upset people have to be people

    To much standing

by Jeanne on 11/7/22The Belasco - Los Angeles

Ali was great but we didnt like how much time they let us stand before he came out. It took about 4/5 hours for him to go out and sing. Next morning woke up with a really bad back. I know concerts are usually standing but this is my first concert ive been to that they made you stand for hours before the artist came out! And ive been to lots of concerts and ive never experienced something like this.

by Alyssa on 2/6/20The Shelter - Detroit

Over all, Ali was great. He sang most of his songs, but the problem was the wait. We waited over an hr outside for them to let us in, and another hour for his to start. The concert started at 8 & he finished around 8:50.... not even a full hr.

    His first concert

by Bo on 1/30/20Mod Club - Toronto

The doors were supposed to open at 7:00pm as per the information that is on Ticketmaster, they did NOT open until 8pm or maybe even a bit later. There was a long line even though we got there at 7pm, but this is to be expected as he is very liked. Another con is that most, if not 95% of the attendees were 15-16 year olds. He himself did well though for his very first concert, I am excited to see him flourish and only get better!
