ALEX CLARE IN CONCERT:

Combining jazz and blues with dubstep and funk sounds like an unconvincing jumble of genres, but soulful, innovative performer Alex Clare has a special talent for fusing unlikely inspirations together. After gaining worldwide recognition with his 2011 smash single "Too Close", the bearded Brit is tearing up the live circuit with his thrillingly creative concerts. Ticket buyers can expect an eclectic show that takes them through a roller coaster of emotions. On the one hand, Clare uses part of his setlist to strip down his performance and return to his noble singer-songwriter roots, growling tenderly about lost love. But just as seamlessly, his band churns out a surge of dancey anthems as he picks up the pace, celebrating themes like found love that always gets concertgoers on their feet. Clare's enthusiastic onstage demeanor and impressive vocal range are perfectly complimented by his band's booming, tribal-like percussions, unleashing a wonderfully unique live experience.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and bred in London, England, Alex Clare grew up engrossed in his dad's jazz and blues record collection. Before long, he developed a fascination with U.K. garage, punk rock, and funk, igniting a creative spark that would eventually earn him worldwide fame. After tinkering on the trumpet and drums as a kid, he eventually taught himself how to play piano and guitar and started performing at open mic nights in London's vibrant club scene. Clare's collection of strikingly honest songs landed him a deal with Island Records in 2010. After linking up with renowned producers Diplo and Switch, Clare unearthed a knack for pairing his soulful songwriting with heavy bass lines. The result was 2011's Lateness Of The Hour, a debut album that's rooted in blues and jazz but also borrows from dubstep and jungle funk. The Diplo-produced track "Too Close" blew up in the US thanks to featured spots in a Microsoft ad campaign and during TV coverage of the London Olympics. The song peaked at No. 4 on the UK singles chart and No. 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100, earning him a nomination for Best British Single at the 2013 BRIT Awards. In August 2014 Clare released his sophomore album Three Hearts, which was critically praised for its blend of alt-rock jams and power pop anthems.

    Alex Clare was on point!

The event was intimate and there was not any special effects or a light show. However that was not needed as Alex Clare captivated the audience with his voice and song selections.

    Great and memorable show.

by Sittenfeld on 12/1/12The Fonda Theatre - Hollywood

This show was fantastic. Alex Clare is a true singer and it was a joy to be able to hear him live. Only reason he doesn't get 5 stars is because I thought the opening act dragged on a bit too long. Also, since there were only two acts, I didn't understand why there was so much downtime between the opening act and Clare.

Alex Clare puts on an amazing show!

Just a simply dressed bearded bloke, his band, & THAT VOICE. My husband only knew him as the "Too close" singer, but is now a fan. He did all the songs on "The Lateness of the Hour", plus a couple covers...one of which was a kick ass version of "When Doves Cry". Add to that the easy accessibility of the Fonda Theater, the comfy balcony seating with a great view, & it was an awesome night.

    Alex clare was amazing!!!

by Lillllllly on 12/1/12The Fonda Theatre - Hollywood

He sang his soul out to all. Loved it! Only issue was the venue was split into balcony and general with same price tickets. I did not know that and an option wasn't given. Luckily I was able to get down to main floor. Loved it.

Performance was awesome but he came on way too late! The audience was getting restless. Venue was good but kinda bland. Sound was ok but vocals could have been louder. Him and his keyboard dude were spectacular! Vocals sounded just like the cd. Keep your eye on the keybOard dude
