About

ALEX CLARE IN CONCERT:

Combining jazz and blues with dubstep and funk sounds like an unconvincing jumble of genres, but soulful, innovative performer Alex Clare has a special talent for fusing unlikely inspirations together. After gaining worldwide recognition with his 2011 smash single "Too Close", the bearded Brit is tearing up the live circuit with his thrillingly creative concerts. Ticket buyers can expect an eclectic show that takes them through a roller coaster of emotions. On the one hand, Clare uses part of his setlist to strip down his performance and return to his noble singer-songwriter roots, growling tenderly about lost love. But just as seamlessly, his band churns out a surge of dancey anthems as he picks up the pace, celebrating themes like found love that always gets concertgoers on their feet. Clare's enthusiastic onstage demeanor and impressive vocal range are perfectly complimented by his band's booming, tribal-like percussions, unleashing a wonderfully unique live experience.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and bred in London, England, Alex Clare grew up engrossed in his dad's jazz and blues record collection. Before long, he developed a fascination with U.K. garage, punk rock, and funk, igniting a creative spark that would eventually earn him worldwide fame. After tinkering on the trumpet and drums as a kid, he eventually taught himself how to play piano and guitar and started performing at open mic nights in London's vibrant club scene. Clare's collection of strikingly honest songs landed him a deal with Island Records in 2010. After linking up with renowned producers Diplo and Switch, Clare unearthed a knack for pairing his soulful songwriting with heavy bass lines. The result was 2011's Lateness Of The Hour, a debut album that's rooted in blues and jazz but also borrows from dubstep and jungle funk. The Diplo-produced track "Too Close" blew up in the US thanks to featured spots in a Microsoft ad campaign and during TV coverage of the London Olympics. The song peaked at No. 4 on the UK singles chart and No. 7 on the US Billboard Hot 100, earning him a nomination for Best British Single at the 2013 BRIT Awards. In August 2014 Clare released his sophomore album Three Hearts, which was critically praised for its blend of alt-rock jams and power pop anthems.

Awesome show sounds better live than his recordings which not many artists can do.

    Non stop music

by millreef on 12/12/14House of Blues Dallas - Dallas

The opening act, Taylor Berrett, was very engaging. He walked onto the stage with his guitar, started playing and got the audience's attention with his great voice.....really enjoyed his performance and would go and see him again. He has a cd coming out in March so I'll definitely be on the lookout for it. There was quite a wait for Alex Clare to come on as they set up, but when he did come on stage it was 90 minutes of almost continuous music. He doesn't do a lot of talking, but he sang non stop and the audience loved it. I would absolutely recommend this concert.

Alex Clare sounded amazing! The opening act (Taylor Berrett) was also very impressive! Just him and his guitar and he still killed it! The venue is perfect for small intimate sessions or bigger bands alike! We had a great time.

    Alex Clare does it right

by viceroydiggler on 12/5/14House of Blues San Diego - San Diego

Alex Clare put on a great show and it was prefect for the venue, House of Blues. Seeing acts like him at either the HOB or Belly Up really make you appreciate no only the artist but the music that they are producing.

Not the best crowd, but Alex Clare was awesome!

by HandsAreClever on 11/24/14Saint Andrews Hall - Detroit

The crowd was small so the show was in The Shelter rather than the main hall, and the band was late because their bus broke down. Was nice of the venue to let us in despite the sound check happening after doors opened (it was miserable cold out). Alex was friendly with the crowd before the show and took pictures while the band set up. The bar was open and there was space to mingle and check things out while the sound check was happening. Taylor Berrett was a solid opening act, and was great at interacting with the small crowd. His set was short, but great. Alex and the band put on a show that should have brought the house down, but the small crowd was not the most enthusiastic bunch. Big props to the boys for putting on a fantastic show despite having what I'm sure was a crappy day, and despite the folks in the crowd that were more interested in recording the show on their phones than giving it up for a great performance. I saw Alex Clare at the Crofoot last summer and was blown away, and after seeing the band again at The Shelter (again, the performance itself - amazing) I definitely plan to catch the show the next chance I get.

He was good, but the show didn't last very long. I wish he played more or they had another preband.

    Such beautiful music!! (Alex Clare)

by Kaeva on 5/11/13Paradise Rock Club - Boston

I had a great time. Really got lost in the sounds. Alex is an incredible singer and the beats were so good. A little lower key/lower energy than some other shows, but that's definitely where I was at for the evening.

    Alex Clare

by Dburke72 on 5/11/13Paradise Rock Club - Boston

The show was great, Alex Clare's voice is so powerful that it was able to override the distortion of the bass. Sound was good with the one exception being the bass was waaaayyyy to heavy. That said I can't wait to see him again

by LexLoves on 5/8/13Deluxe at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

This show was great! The venue was intimate, and Alex killed it. The whole crowd was into the show, he sounded amazing - better than his album for some songs, we heard the entire album, and we even got to hear some new songs. I would definitely go and see him again.

    Disappointed

by Wendy143 on 5/8/13Deluxe at Old National Centre - Indianapolis

The Deluxe room was stuffy and hot. The opening act, that I found no mention of, was a techno mess that didn't seem to match the headliners genre. Waste of time. Alex Clare was lovely. But I was already to go before he even got on stage.

by avnicole on 12/19/12Theater of the Living Arts - Philadelphia

His voice is amazing! I wasn't not expecting him to have that powerful of a voice. The band is a strange mix, but they work. He's going far!
