    David Alan Miller - Fantastic!

by ArteKuna on 10/17/17The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

Although Miller is a great conductor, and the Albany Symphony performed outstandingly, Simone Porter stole the show! She was absolutly brilliant! Of course the Star Wars Suite was awesome as well. Great show! My wife, son and I enjoyed greatly.

I always love going to see the Albany Symphony orchestra but their playing was even more superb than usual. I love Beethoven's 9th and being able to hear it live with Albany Pro Musica was astounding. If you have not seen them live, I highly recommend it!!!

    Great music and enthusiastic patrons

by pianobyear on 2/21/17The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

This was my first time at the Albany Symphony. I found the players highly skilled, the hall to be very warm and with good acoustics. One of the nicest things was to see an almost packed house and people who obviously enjoyed and wanted to be there. Conductor before was a nice bonus!

    Fantastic Musical Choices

by ricatao on 2/21/17The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

The opening was Dance Card by Jennifer Higdon. It was performed very well, and was an excellent choice exposing the audience to this modern composer. I bought one of her CDs when I got home. The Beethoven triple concerto was brilliant. I'd never heard it before, and I am a big Beethoven fan. The Violin and Cello soloists were excellent, the interplay of the symphony with the soloists was seamless. It sounded like they'd all played this piece together for years. The Brahms Symphony was well done.

Yo Yo Ma was amazing! He sounded so good and although I loved the music that he played with the Albany Symphony I was hoping that he would have played a few more solos

    Yo Yo Ma

by Jhutchski on 12/11/16The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

The music was great but he only played 3 songs, all night. This concert was touted, "An evening with Yo Yo Ma". Ummm not quite. Maybe a few minutes. We were all VERY disappointed! Don't get me wrong, the Albany Symphony was wonderful as was Yo Yo, but we paid big bucks to see Yo Yo, not the symphony.

    Magic of Christmas

by swimmer50 on 12/7/16The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

A very enjoyable show. The youth segments were enjoyable. I guess I was hoping for something more substantial from the Symphony. Wold have loved to have heard the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's Messiah as he grand finale with the Symphony and all of the coral groups.

    Good performance.

by MadisonMi on 12/7/16The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

I think if Mr. Miller talked less it would have been far more enjoyable. Since we all had programs there really was no need rehash every upcoming event. I understand introducing people but do not go on and on about them and who they are and where their next performance is. That is what programs are for! I think it would have been nice to play/sing/perform more Christmas songs that are classic.

    Touching performance with surprise!

by Giridhar on 9/27/16The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

Beautiful piece by the lovely Reena Esmail (Hindustani orchestral crossover composition). Exquisite piano performance by the alluring Natasha Paremski. Unexpected presentation of the key to the city by Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan to Maestro David Alan Miller! What not to love?!

    A great night of music!

by Ads93 on 9/27/16The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

It was wonderful to spend the perfect amount of time enjoying the Albany Symphany opening night performance! The music was interesting and at times, mesmerizing. A great cultural gem in our community - a great activity for the whole family or even just date night!

    unique offerings, subtlety and substance

by ricatao on 9/27/16The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

The opening piece was a world music composition with some interesting segments, but overall did not come together. The piano concerto started in mediocre fashion, however gained momentum and had a third movement full of vitality. The symphony was beautiful, with the right pace.

    Mahler was amazing

by Anonymous on 5/22/16The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

I cannot say enough good about the concert we attended. The Orchestra and chorus was amazing. We knew a number of the musicians in the orchestra. It was an extremely moving piece. I would recommend as a definite program to attend if this particular piece was being offered again .

    Mahler

by waMole on 5/17/16The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

Superb performance of Mahler's 2nd symphony. Nothing equals the impact of a live orchestra and the Albany Symphony were at the top of their game for this one.

    Mahler 2 was forgettable...

by mahlerlover on 5/17/16The Palace Theatre Albany - Albany

This concert didn't "fail" for lack of trying...the orchestra and chorus were in it the entire way. But there were a few problems that took away from a "great" performance. First, the off-stage brass choir couldn't be heard from the front few rows (where I was sitting). They should have placed the choir near a stage door or put them in the wings...but wherever they were, they could hardly be heard. My biggest problem was that it seemed that the symphony was beyond the grasp of the conductor. He was simply out of his league. I kept thinking throughout the entire perormance that there is no virtue in getting through it...which is all he seemed concerned about. There were countless moments that were missed due to either technical deficiencies or simply weren't recognized. I left the concert very unsatisfied which is really unusual for this particular symphony for me as it is one of my all time favorites. The soloists were remarkable, particularly the alto...because of them, the great playing by the orchestra, and the fine singing of the chorus I give the concert 3 stars. But the conductor managed to only achieve about half of what he could have had he had the chops to do so.
