Alan Doyle on Tour
In 2019, Alan Doyle released the single "We Don't Wanna Go Home," a duet with B.C. country star Dean Brody. It's a title that perfectly sums up Doyle's career on the road. As frontman for Canadian roots-rock institution Great Big Sea, he spread the beery good cheer from coast to coast and beyond for the better part of 20 years, and since that band's dissolution in 2013, he's continued to live up to his well-earned road-warrior reputation as a solo artist. Backed by his reliable support crew The Beautiful Beautiful Band, Doyle delivers a healthy serving of Great Big Sea classics and selections from his three solo albums to date: Boy On Bridge (2012), So Let's Go (2015) and A Week at the Warehouse (2017). An Alan Doyle show is both an occasion to have a good time and to support a good cause — he's known to donate proceeds from ticket sales to mental-health and addiction-treatment organizations.
Alan Doyle in Concert
As a singer/guitarist for the rambunctious roots combo Great Big Sea, Alan Doyle helped transform the Newfoundland band from regional pub phenomenon into one of Canada's most successful and celebrated bands. Between their 1993 formation and 2013 dissolution, the group racked up seven Top 10 placements and 11 Juno Award nominations. And since launching his solo career with 2012's Boy on Bridge, he hasn't relented in his lifelong mission to deliver joyously anthemic, pint-sloshing, Celtic-kissed singalongs. But Doyle's musical pursuits have run parallel to an eclectic acting career that includes credits in such films as Winter's Tale and Ridley Scott's Robin Hood. (Fittingly, he's developed an ongoing creative partnership with another singing actor, Russell Crowe, who invited Doyle to write for his 2005 album, My Hand, My Heart, leading to a full-album collaboration between the two, The Crowe/Doyle Songbook, Vol. III, in 2011.) Doyle's myriad achievements earned him entry into the Order of Canada in 2017, and he's reflected upon his charmed life in two bestselling memoirs, Where I Belong (2014) and A Newfoundlander in Canada (2018).
We had a beautiful time with Alan Doyle and the Beautiful, beautiful band. Great show!!!!
Alan Doyle is a joy to watch perform. His love and enthusiasm for his music and his audience is why I admire him so much. The Portland, ME show was amazing and I hope he returns soon. Chris Trapper was fantastic as well.
We saw Alan Doyle and the BBB at the Aura in Portland Maine. The venue was excellent, small but laid out well with floor and bar seating areas and three separate balconies on left center and right with bar access. The Aura was clean and well organized. Alan and the band were crisp and energized from the first song to the encores. The crowd was fully involved throughout the show and the sound was excellent. I have seen Alan and the band at other small venues like the Aura and they never fail to put on a top rate show.
I've seen this guy many times now and it's always fun. He's down to earth, witty and a great performer/showman. His unique blend Atlantic Canadian style folk music and rock will not dissapoint.
What a wonderful Evening from the opener, Chris Trapper right through to Alan Doyle and his band. Great sound, stage presence, songs, lights....action !
This was the perfect venue for a great artist! I never felt like one of a crowd here. I was able to park close and find my seat easily. There isn't a bad seat in the beautiful theater. The restrooms were close enough that I went multiple times and never missed a thing. The drinks were reasonably priced and in a handy location too. I'll be following the theater and won't hesitate to drive from St. Louis to KC for another concert!
AD and his band pulled out all the stops at his final concert in Toronto Sunday night. Alan said he was thankful to the fans, as 90% of us, didn't cash in our tickets after 3 date changes and said it inspired their band to continue to tour. But I thank the band in return, for giving me a reason to jump up from my seat and dance, smile, laugh and sing. I've been working from home for 20 months and this was my first trip outside of my community, so I thank Alan for lifting my spirits with the power of his music and his raw humbleness along side the very talented Kendall and now "I'll be OK" . . . PS I'm also a supporter of his "Dollar A Day" charity - keep up the great work, because somedays its OK to not feel OK.
Never disappoints me. He is so engaging and an amazing songwriter. I never sit down. It is one big party!
I always love seeing Alan Doyle when he was with Great Big Sea first time ever that I've seen him solo he was amazing and so was the band the best part was the stories he told in between his songs made me miss Newfoundland
The venue was beautiful and the people working the event were fun and polite. I really enjoyed Kelly Prescott, who opened for Alan Doyle. It is such a cozy venue that it felt like we were hanging out with the band and chatting. I was super excited to go to the concert and Alan Doyle did not disappoint. He is talented and humble. I am still glowing from the event!!
Great show in a great venue. Alan puts so much energy into his show. You could really tell that he and the rest of the band we very happy to be playing live events again.
By far one of the best entertaining artists out there. ALAN DOYLE understands the assignment.
Get out and see Alan and the Beautiful Beautiful Band! They were incredible. And this venue is the best in Canada - best sound, best sight lines. Nothing like it. Cheers!
First live event since Covid and Alan and the band really knocked it out of the park. What a night!!!!
Alan Doyle is a true showman. His songs are both touching and delightful. The audience was on their feet dancing and singing along for half the show. I would go to his show again in a heartbeat!
It was so wonderful to finally get to enjoy Alan Doyle’s energy and musical talent! It had been a long 2 year wait. The NAC venue perhaps did not quite match the mood of the crowd - I would’ve been on my feet the whole show if permitted. We loved the banter and the way Alan engages with the audience, laughing and joking. He took the time to single out a young fan with a sign, took pictures and gave the set list away which remained in hand the remainder of the show. Can’t wait to see him again, and get back in the swing of seeing more live shows, masked and vaxed of course 👍🏻
My first time seeing Allan Doyle.. what a fun time! I had not heard of Kelly Prescott so did not know what to expect. She was great! Her type of music is not usually in my play list but she was a fantastic entertainer and her songs caught my attention for their local roots and catchy lyrics. Allan Doyle was really amazing. It felt just like an East Coast kitchen party. Everyone having a great time, like we were all there together and d we were all going to end up in someone’s basement afterwards. Really impressive to watch how he and his band captivated everyone in the room. Excellent evening, wonderful experience!!
That was one big kitchen party! Five rows back right side of stage the sound was poor- sounded like a barn. As with most venues center mid back is best sound but expected better at QE.
Wonderful concert. Full of fun and some poignant moments. Love the stories he tells in between songs . Great band
One of the best live shows I’ve seen in ages! Alan had everyone on their feet by the second song and carried that energy right through the show. Great music and great stories. My only regret is not making the time to go see him sooner.
