About

Disney’s ALADDIN is a dazzling and extravagant showcase of special effects — including a flying magic carpet during “A Whole New World” — as well as glittering-gold costumes and art deco-style sets that mirror the grandeur of a Busby Berkeley musical. One of Broadway’s most popular musical comedies, the show opened at the legendary New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, and has since broken numerous house records (grossing over $500 million on Broadway). Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken composed the show’s music. The lyrics are by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), as well as three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and direction/choreography is by two-time Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw.

    Aladdin

by MorningStar27 on 3/31/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Went for my daughter's 21st birthday she and my other daughter loved it. Fan-tas-tic, true to disney movie. Genie was amazing, funny and energetic truly engaged the audience with his performance. Musical numbers were genius.

    Alladin the Musical

by koolaid1 on 3/31/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

The Genie was amazing. Costuming and choreography were excellent. A bit disappointing that we had several understudies in the performance given that the show has only been open a week.

Aladdin on Broadway creates a Whole New World

by rafferdx on 3/31/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

As a huge fan of Disney, and of Broadway, I was ecstatic when I heard Aladdin would be coming to the Great White Way. As one of my all-time favorite movies, I was a little concerned that the final result would be disappointing. Those concerns were misplaced, as the final result was everything I could have hoped for and more. The entire show moved from one spectacle to another, each one as enjoyable, if not more so, than the last. The new songs and characters honored the spirit of the movie, while simultaneously forging their own path. I was belly laughing almost the entire show, and when the curtain dropped barely two and a half hours later, it seemed like no time had passed at all. Out of the almost dozen Broadway shows and national tours I've seen, this was by far the best and my personal favorite, and I'll likely go see it again before the original cast moves on. Highly recommend it!

    aladdin amazing!

by perfectpax on 3/31/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Overall the play was very similar to the movie, but the Genie had some updated lines. Music, costumes and performances were spectacular. However, the sets and effects were lacking for a Disney production. I was disappointed. Have seen Beauty and the Beast, Mary Poppins, Lion King and Little Mermaid. All were better in that area.

by Blackpaw on 3/31/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

I loved seeing Alladin on Broadway, I took my daughter, who was just 7 years old when the Disney Movie came out. She LOVED IT and even recognized the voice of Jafar as the same as the voice in the original Disney movie. What great ears she has LOL !!

    WHAT BROADWAY NEEDS

by kuzco on 3/31/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

in a not so great time for broadway musicals, this is exactly what broadway needs. fun, enchanting, magical, musical, funny, touching everything you want from a musical. the only problem was that in the show i've been both Aladdin and Ginie, were understudies.... 8 days after opening night, that was rather disappointing.

Aladdin is visually stunning and lots of fun!

by Espiritolindo on 3/30/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

My 6 year-old daughter, 12 year-old niece, father, stepmom, and I all loved the show! The scenery and costumes are terrific, the new songs were good, and the actors were great. It was very family-friendly and we all had a wonderful time. My niece wanted to get autographs and photos after the show, and the actors were unbelievably kind and generous with their time.

    Alladin was pretty good!!

by busysupermom on 3/30/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Went to see Alladin with my 8 yr old and 11 year old. They both really loved it and were not bored for a second even tho they are both ADHD! The costumes and scenery were really amazing and worthy of Broadway and it was a real production!! (unlike the recent plays Ive seen on Broadway which have been well acted but nothing exciting where you feel like it was worth the money.) They changed certain particulars which were in the movie but I feel like they worked well for a show and creative innovative ways for the genie to appear and the cave of wonders etc. effects were great. The big complaint that I have is that they added so many new songs and didnt use enough of the old familiar ones. Some of them were really slow, boring and redundant and I feel like the show went on for a little too long. All in all, I would recommend but more for the kids.

    "Aladdin" is a Disney hit!

by Turtle8 on 3/30/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Excellent adaption of the animated "Aladdin." Jonathan Freeman, who was the voice of Jafar in the movie, is Jafar in this stage version. My minor complaint is that Aladdin's monkey pal, Abu, has been replaced by human sidekicks. Jafar's parrot is also a human sidekick. I think the young children in the audience would have enjoyed seeing "puppets" as the animals in this production
