About

Disney’s ALADDIN is a dazzling and extravagant showcase of special effects — including a flying magic carpet during “A Whole New World” — as well as glittering-gold costumes and art deco-style sets that mirror the grandeur of a Busby Berkeley musical. One of Broadway’s most popular musical comedies, the show opened at the legendary New Amsterdam Theatre on March 20, 2014, and has since broken numerous house records (grossing over $500 million on Broadway). Eight-time Oscar winner Alan Menken composed the show’s music. The lyrics are by two-time Oscar winner Howard Ashman (Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid), as well as three-time Tony Award and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice and six-time Tony Award nominee Chad Beguelin. The book is by Beguelin and direction/choreography is by two-time Tony Award-winner Casey Nicholaw.

    A Very Enjoyable Evening

by mindisplace on 4/6/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Aladdin was just a great, old-fashioned evening of musical theater (think a bit of vaudeville). It was fun and the song-and-dance numbers were a blast, especially the colorful, exciting and slightly manic "Friend Like Me". Adam Jacobs was born to play this role--he looks like the animated Aladdin brought to life. James Monroe Iglehart as the Genie actually eclipsed Robin Williams. The rest of the cast was terrific and the new material fit right in. Casey Nicholaw brought a new sense of humor to the story. Aladdin is a show that is not afraid to laugh at itself. But my favorite part was "A Whole New World." Definitely not a show for the cynical, but if you want to have a fun night at the theater with a little "wow" factor, go see it.

Great production! The talent and great set designs were excellent. Disney outdid itself with this show.

    A Whole New World!

by Fink17 on 4/6/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

It was just the most unbelieveable show. I've seen dozens of musicals but none have campared to the energy if this one. I didn't think anything would ever top wicked or the lion king but Disney figured out how with this show.

    Aladdin - GOOD FOR KIDS

by BlackGrandpa on 4/5/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

I took my two grandkids - boy 6, girl 4 to see Aladdin. They loved it! I thought that it was a very good adaptation of the movie. The changes (Iago, etc.) were well handled. I would not recommend it for older kids (teenagers or so). Overall another good Disney contribution to BROADWAY.

Formulaic Disney Broadway Spectacle Kids Loved

by Mommyintow on 4/5/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

No heart-strings will be tugged here, but the show-stopping genie reveal number, "You'll Never Have A Friend Like Me," was worth the price of admission. My five and ten year olds had a great time, although Mommy found the musical numbers to be uneven ("Proud of Your Boy" is an absolute bore, and there's no romantic chemistry between the leads). The genie steals the show as you would imagine. This is not a show that will stay with you forever, but if you're looking for a sure-fire kids show, this pushes all the right buttons. Big production numbers, a flying carpet and lots of silly puns will keep this on Broadway for years.

    Aladdin -- Excellent Production

by Broadwaymomof3 on 4/5/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Well, Disney's done it again for Broadway! This is a great adaptation of the cartoon. The cast was excellent and the energy was contagious. Production numbers were amazing. It's a definite "must-see" for adults and children alike. Will keep the interest of girls and boys. They do play to the young, as they did with Beauty and the Beast, and Mary Poppins, which means this one will be around for a very long time! The new songs hit their mark. "Proud of your boy" was very touching and appropriately placed. I think this show is wonderful. If the ticket prices weren't so high, It would have been a "must see again" type of show! Important to note, this performance is so visual, any seat in the house would be great due to the enormity of the production numbers.

Everything you want from a musical!

by ReneeRenee87 on 4/5/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Aladdin is my favorite Disney movie and now it is my favorite Disney Musical! The Genie was absolutely hilarious! The singing was spectacular and the DANCING was beyond perfect! And that flying carpet?!?!? I can't even explain my excitement with the carpet. I can always see how certain high-flying theatrical tricks work (I.e. harnesses, pullies, wires, platforms, etc.) I honestly have no idea how they made that carpet fly!! There was nothing underneath and no wires either!!! I sat in the center front row of the mezzanine and saw nothing holding that carpet up. It truly felt like magic! PLEASE GO SEE THIS MUSICAL AS SOON AS YOU CAN!! And bring me with you because I NEED to see it again! Haha.

    Good but could be better

by Leoirj on 4/5/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

I have a long relationship with this story and these characters. I liked the musical, had fun hearing the songs, but i can't lie that I was expecting a LOT more from a Disney production... The carpet scene is cool.

    Aladdin on Broadway was captivating!

by Q1989 on 4/5/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

Simply beautiful and filled with emotion. The cast paired their heart and souls into the reinactment of a Disney Classic. I purchased these tickets as a gift for my girlfriend who is a huge Aladdin fan. I too enjoy Aladdin but let me tell you, I was blown away and at times more captivated than she was. You can literally feel the positive energy given off by the cast. I recommend this for everybody!

    Aladdin was magical!!

by Travelerfromcalifornia on 4/5/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

We had been waiting to see this for about two years when we heard it was going to broadway. The wait was so worth it. It was more that we could have ever thought. The actors were amazing, loved the singing, comedy, and the Disney special effects were great. If I didn't live so far away we would see this 3-4 more times!

    Aladdin

by ChocolateTownFan on 4/4/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New York

We enjoyed the newest offering from the Disney people at the New Amsterdam Theatre in NYC The story was pretty much the same as the cartoon version from 1992. The scenery, costumes and music were well done. Great actors in every part, especially the Genie, Jafar, Jasmin and Aladdin. We were hoping that they would have the "magic carpet" fly out over the audience, but it stayed toward the back of the stage, but with no cables visible. Amazing! A very enjoyable evening!
