A Very Enjoyable Evening
by mindisplace on 4/6/14New Amsterdam Theatre - New YorkAladdin was just a great, old-fashioned evening of musical theater (think a bit of vaudeville). It was fun and the song-and-dance numbers were a blast, especially the colorful, exciting and slightly manic "Friend Like Me". Adam Jacobs was born to play this role--he looks like the animated Aladdin brought to life. James Monroe Iglehart as the Genie actually eclipsed Robin Williams. The rest of the cast was terrific and the new material fit right in. Casey Nicholaw brought a new sense of humor to the story. Aladdin is a show that is not afraid to laugh at itself. But my favorite part was "A Whole New World." Definitely not a show for the cynical, but if you want to have a fun night at the theater with a little "wow" factor, go see it.
