About

Al Stewart on Tour

There is something special about an artist who can tell a captivating story through their music. Scottish singer/songwriter Al Stewart is one of them. Drawing crowds on tour since the 1960s, when his debut album, Year of the Cat hit the radio, Stewart takes his audience on a journey with him that they will never forget. Attending a show is a memorable experience, and can be somewhat of a history lesson. The folk singer started his career writing love songs, but after a run of bad luck in that department, Stewart, an avid history buff, decided to give his storytelling skills a whirl. Stewart's concerts are a glimpse into the past, telling his favorite tales from his years of scouring history books. His 1974 album, Past, Present and Future, outsold all of his previous albums combined. Stewart has maintained one of the most devoted and long-lasting audiences of the folk/rock genre. His 2022 tour with his band, The Empty Pockets, is set to span three countries, including the United States, UK and Israel. The 2022 tour will feature songs from all of Stewart's albums, including Year of the Cat, Time Passages, On the Border, Nostradamus, and Roads To Moscow. Catch Al Stewart and his band, The Empty Pockets on tour in 2022.

Al Stewart Live in Concert

Al Stewart is a Scottish singer/songwriter who rose to stardom in the late 1960s as part of the British Folk Revival. When Stewart was a child, his mother moved him to an English town named Wimborne Minster, following the death of his father. His father, who served in the Royal Airforce, died in a plane crash during a training exercise before Stewart was born. He began his career by singing in local coffee shops around London. As his music career took off, Stewart released two back-to-back platinum-selling albums,The Year of the Cat and Time Passages. Stewart moved to the United States to reside in the Los Angeles area following the release of his album Year of the Cat in October 1976. Stewart prides himself on writing music that is a bit eccentric. His concerts draw fans who have been loyal to Stewart for decades. His 2022 tour follows several cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is long awaited and anticipated by fans.

    Very Disappointing

by Larry on 9/5/23The Event at Graton Resort & Casino - Rohnert Park

When I purchased a ticket in June 2023 from ticketmaster, I assumed, as advertised that I would be spending the evening enjoying Al Stewart's fabulous music. The June ticketmaster email presented the event as an Al Stewart concert. I was very shocked and disappointed when I arrived at the concert to learn that Al was only one of many performers. Al only performed 3 songs and then left the stage never to return to the concert.

    Nostalgia fun

by Niecey on 9/5/23The Event at Graton Resort & Casino - Rohnert Park

I enjoyed the Ambrosia with guests concert. Lots of old songs that brought back good vibes. Fun to have variety. Music / songs were awesome. Even some humor and interesting stories behind the songs and the singers. They sounded really good. It was cool. To see the flashback slideshows and lighting n stage was cool. It was a very nice evening out.

    Consummate showman

    by Gsquared on 8/28/23

Al Stewart had been on my "must-see"list for decades perhaps. Even at 77, he still puts on a great show. His performance time was a little under 1.5 hours - wish there had been a little more. He tells great stories to introduce his songs, which are cleverly-written tales themselves, and he seems to enjoy himself on stage. He played a number of tunes I wasn't familiar with, but I enjoyed them nonetheless. "On the Border"was a gem, along with "Year of the Cat". The supporting band, The Empty Pockets, are a successful band in their own right and did a nice opening set as well. Lots of talent on stage. Overall a memorable night!

    A Wonderful Evening

by Tricia from Virginia on 8/28/23

The opening/backup band was great. I’d only heard a few of Al Stewart’s songs that play on the radio, but he played quite a few more of course. Every song came with a story; he clearly loves telling them and engaging with the audience. It’s an art to make a statement without becoming harsh, but the songs are both statements and enjoyable to listen to. It was a wonderful evening, I wish he’d play larger venues in my area but at the same time something would diminish if that happened, and it would be the experience. Memorable!

by Rob from DC on 8/28/23

It was a great show. The Empty Pockets were awesome as well they have some very talented musicians and we really enjoyed their original stuff. Al Stewart was a lot of fun. A very funny and personable man and his art has not skipped a beat. I saw him back in 1976 and I enjoyed the 2023 show very much.

    Magical & Comfortable

    by Stan on 8/17/23

Stewart was personal and accessible. The Vogel may have been our most comfortable theater experience to date.

    He's still got it!

    by Jay on 8/14/23

From the intimate atmosphere he creates with his droll banter with Tuscan in the audience to the touching solo encore cover of Dylan's "Love Minus Zero No Limit,"Al Stewart's performances are still magical. I saw him twice on this tour (NYC and NJ). Both times: Exceptional. And, yes, he played the famous ones too.

    Great entertainer

    by Matt on 8/12/23

Al Stewart is a great lyricist and story teller. He played hits and other songs that I thoroughly enjoyed. The stories he tells between songs are even more entertaining. He should write a book. And the Vogel is an excellent venue with great views and sound.

    Great show from Al Stewart!

by Al Stewart at the Vogel on 8/12/23

Al Stewart gave a great performance at the Vogel in Red Bank on 8/9/2023! He is a great musician and hasn't lost any of his talent over the years. His band, Empty Pockets, was completely up to preforming all of his hits and then some. I would recommend seeing him if you get the chance!

    Great Evening of Great Music

    by Mooch on 8/12/23

First, The Empty Pockets are the real deal. They are an incredible tight band, can play any style, and are terrific writers. Then, Al Stewart... amazing... have loved him for over 50 years. Still has it... and great storytelling. The best live much I've seen in the past 10 years.

Despite having a cold, Al Stewart was great!

by R. G. on 3/6/233TEN Austin City Limits Live - Austin

He had to alter some of the keys and notes in the songs he sang and was unable to come out for an encore do to waking up with a cold, but he was still great. He had a funny back story for nearly every song. He is truly one of the best lyricist ever. Oh, and Paul Simon (who lived in the apartment next him in the 1960s) was in attendance!
