About

Al Stewart on Tour

There is something special about an artist who can tell a captivating story through their music. Scottish singer/songwriter Al Stewart is one of them. Drawing crowds on tour since the 1960s, when his debut album, Year of the Cat hit the radio, Stewart takes his audience on a journey with him that they will never forget. Attending a show is a memorable experience, and can be somewhat of a history lesson. The folk singer started his career writing love songs, but after a run of bad luck in that department, Stewart, an avid history buff, decided to give his storytelling skills a whirl. Stewart's concerts are a glimpse into the past, telling his favorite tales from his years of scouring history books. His 1974 album, Past, Present and Future, outsold all of his previous albums combined. Stewart has maintained one of the most devoted and long-lasting audiences of the folk/rock genre. His 2022 tour with his band, The Empty Pockets, is set to span three countries, including the United States, UK and Israel. The 2022 tour will feature songs from all of Stewart's albums, including Year of the Cat, Time Passages, On the Border, Nostradamus, and Roads To Moscow. Catch Al Stewart and his band, The Empty Pockets on tour in 2022.

Al Stewart Live in Concert

Al Stewart is a Scottish singer/songwriter who rose to stardom in the late 1960s as part of the British Folk Revival. When Stewart was a child, his mother moved him to an English town named Wimborne Minster, following the death of his father. His father, who served in the Royal Airforce, died in a plane crash during a training exercise before Stewart was born. He began his career by singing in local coffee shops around London. As his music career took off, Stewart released two back-to-back platinum-selling albums,The Year of the Cat and Time Passages. Stewart moved to the United States to reside in the Los Angeles area following the release of his album Year of the Cat in October 1976. Stewart prides himself on writing music that is a bit eccentric. His concerts draw fans who have been loyal to Stewart for decades. His 2022 tour follows several cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and is long awaited and anticipated by fans.

    Awesome Al Stewart

by Momma45 on 12/13/10Coach House - Capistrano - San Juan Capistrano

It was beautiful. Beginning the set with just Al and Dave then bringing in the others was genius. It allowed us to take them in slowly, taking it all with the charming stories and incredible tunes. Loved the show.

    A special treat!

    by MrBill64 on 12/12/10Pepperdine University - Malibu

Al Stewart's Year of the Cat was one of my favorite records growing up. And Al didn't disappoint, playing many of my favorites from that record. I wasn't as familiar with what he had done before Year of the Cat or after Time Passages, so that was a welcome treat. His accompanying band was great too - tight and clearly enjoyed being there.

Stewartwith Nacmanoff & Friends - incredible show!

by KimbyW on 12/12/10Pepperdine University - Malibu

Al Stewart played with Dave Nachmanoff and other local musicians in a performance which was magical and wonderful; he played so many favorites of mine and many in the audience and kept the evening jumping with his witty repartee in between songs. Marc Macisso accompanied on flute, percussion and really rocked with his sax on Time Passages and Year of the Cat. Kenny Herrera on drums and Mike Lindauer on bass provided a wonderful beat. It was a sensational evening and Al was most certainly on his game!

Al Stewart was great/Rythmn Room had no seats

by AZnutmeg on 9/26/10Rhythm Room - Phoenix

The show was fantastic....Al Stewart sounded great...and so did Dave Nachmanoff. Show was very entertaining. Bad thing was we had to stand the whole time, as even with pre-paid tickets there was standing room only! Would have been nice to know that ahead of time.

All Stars for Al, not for Venue

by RhymesInRooms on 6/13/10Rhythm Room - Phoenix

Al was perfect as always. I've lost count as to how many times I've seen him since 1976. As for the Rhythm Room, I knew they would sell more tickets than they have seats, but I still resented standing all evening, even though I purchased my ticket well in advance, arrived an hour early, and paid the same price as those who were seated. Then a woman took drink orders from the people in front of me, walked right past me without even looking at me, and took more drink orders from the people next to me. So the evening began rather badly, but Al made it all worthwhile. Interestingly, during Dave's opening set, Al came out from backstage, walked through the tightly packed crowd all the way around to the front hallway, then later walked all the way back again. I didn't see precisely where he went, but I found myself thinking, "Surely they provide him with a restroom backstage, don't they?"

Great to see Jesse Winchester after a long absence

    by neko99 on 8/26/09Birchmere - Alexandria

Jesse Winchester did a good mix of old songs and titles from his new album. He had numerous stories to tell about his grand-kids, and some insight into where the inspiration for some of his new songs came from.

One of the best shows I've ever seen

by cwcdv on 8/20/09Birchmere - Alexandria

Al Stewart and Dave Nachmanoff make an incredible duo representing a full catalog of Al Stewart's work. Stewart is an amazing songwriter with an uncanny ability to paint scenes with his lyrics. While Stewart is an incredibly accomplish guitarist in in his own right, Dave Nachmanoff has some of the best guitar skills that I have seen live. He has mastered Stewart's work and provided top of the line lead guitar skills.

    Al Stewart-amazing! Coach House-Horrible!!!!

by TJRose on 7/20/09Coach House - Capistrano - San Juan Capistrano

Al Stewart was great and very entertaining! However, the Coach House was a horrible experience ... the air conditioning was not working (has not been for years) and the fans above our heads were not working (have not been for years as well) and the poor musicians were dying on stage and commented on the heat several times! If it had not been for the fact that Al Stewart was amazing we would not have stayed. We do not plan on going to see a concert there again under those conditions!!

Al Stewart - Great! Coach House - ehh!

by SoCalNative on 7/19/09Coach House - Capistrano - San Juan Capistrano

Al Stewart created incredible magic with Laurence Juber. A special treat was having Laurence perform solo for 15 minutes before Al came on stage, demonstrating his incredible guitar technique. He and Al then performed songs from Al's entire career, with more emphasis on songs from his Modern Times album. This time, Al brought percussion and horn accompaniment, creating a full effect. Al played the essentials, leaving only Roads To Moscow out of his set. Year Of The Cat was masterful, with Laurence's masterful guitar solos and the sax accompaniment completing the experience. The set included songs from Al's recent albums as well as 3 from the Year Of The Cat album (my favorite!). Awesome!!! The Coach House is a funky old venue that desperately needs to improve their ventilation and food. It gets stifling hot inside when the weather is warm, and cigarette smoke wafts in from the smoking area outside. The dinner menu is simple, but the effort made on the dinner salads and bread is sad. It could be much better with just a little more effort. The entrees are fine, but the simple iceberg lettuce dinner salad with watery dressing and a small, pasty dinner roll comes up short. Anytime you can see Al Stewart live, do it! He is the modern master of the historic folk rock genre.
