About

With the release of Love Ritual in 2010, soul singer and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Al Green reminded the world exactly why he so richly deserves legendary status. Featuring a remix of retro hits and rare tracks, Love Ritual is a nostalgic predecessor to his 2008 album Lay It Down, which featured a collection of earthy, soul-infused songs epitomizing his iconic sound from the past four decades. Green's concerts feature a mix of old favorites as well as new, contemporary takes on classics, and fan excitement runs high during his intense, bluesy riffs and highly charged vocal improvisations. Lay It Down spawned a major European tour, with ticket holders thrilling to the singer’s low-and-smoky take on “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart?,” as well as his gospel-powered romance anthem, “Let’s Get Married.” His newest release follows similarly with throbbing, gutsy vocals and pulsating rhythms.

As much a showman as a singer, Green entered the performing arena during the 1960s, emulating the singing styles of heroes Jackie Wilson and Sam Cooke. Green hit the charts with “Tired of Being Alone” and his slow, sexy sound and charismatic interpretive style catapulted him to R&B royalty. After the platinum “I’m Still in Love with You,” Green produced a string of hits, including the iconic “I Feel Good” and fan favorite “Let’s Stay Together.” By the 1980s, Green made ministry a primary focus in his life but still found time to stay on top of his R&B career — Rolling Stone magazine included him on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Today, the Reverend Green is a fully ordained pastor who continues to go on concert tours whenever possible. With the release of Love Ritual, a new generation can experience the thrill of listening to one of the world's greatest R&B musicians.

    Meh …

    by B L A K E on 11/28/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

It was a decent show, however, it was 45+ minutes before Al came on the stage and the opening “comedian” was terrible. The Detroit show at The Fox Theater was advertised with Angela Windbush on the bill, however, she wasn’t there and no one announced that she wouldn’t be or why she wasn’t. As far as Al’s performance it was decent for nostalgic reasons and his voice is still great - he just barely sang his songs and his band and back “singers” did most of the show. Not to mention only performed for 45 minutes to an hour.

    Disappointing

by Onebadpilotdetroit on 11/27/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Yes, he is a legend and glad we got to see him but the show was a huge disappointment. He was never really there, only singing one or two lines from a song and spent a majority of the time handing out roses. The opening act was not as advertised and the "comic"was terrible. With the exception of the band if was very poorly produced and executed.

    Fantastic

by Detroit Born on 11/27/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Started on time. Al Green exceeded my expectations and he was more than outstanding! He sounded like he did in 1980s. He was so kind, respectful, sincere and funny at times. It was clear that he loves and appreciates his audience. And I/we love him.

Great voice but too short of a performance for the money

by Traveler on 11/27/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Way too short of a performance for the price. Spent more time getting out of the parking structure then at the concert

    Al Green

by SEW on 11/27/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

This was a very disappointing concert experience. When I purchased the tickets, Angela Winbush was slated to be on the show, she was not there. Bill Hill was not funny at all but maybe he was asked at the last minute to perform since Angela was a no show. This should have been announced to the audience that Ms. Winbush would not be there. Al Green maybe should not be touring as he doesn't seem to have the stamina. I believe he performed for 45 minutes and wasted time singing 3 or 4 songs that weren't even his. Also, he was pointing the mic towards the audience a LOT so we were singing instead of him. I still love Al Green! SEW

    Awesome

by Dinka on 11/27/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

My husband and I was skeptical about seeing Al Green again because the last time we saw him he was singing so fast we were disappointed. My mother inlaw called to see if we were going because she wanted to go so we bought tickets. When I tell you Al Green did an fabulous job and my mother inlaw and us really enjoyed ourselves

    Too Short

by TheButton on 11/27/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

The show called for an 8 o'clock start time. A DJ from the local radio station came out to talk around 8:25. A local "comedian"tried to do a comedy act for about 15 minutes. It was hard to sit through after 3 minutes. Finally Al Green came out at 8:45-50!!! His music and the band he had with him were great!!! Al Green's concert only lasted 45 minutes at the most. Not even a "Thank you Detroit". All we got was an "I'm outta here"and he ran off stage. Two tickets in the mezzanine and parking $450.00. Hardly worth it.

Great to see Mr. Al Green

by FAB C on 11/27/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Ah, what a pleasure to see Al Green. He still has a nice voice but we could tell there was a struggle in carrying all of those great songs. We get it. At some point touring is taxing, and that is what it felt like at times, but to see an icon on stage is priceless. I wish I could have seen him in a more intimate and quiet setting, because maybe that was "too loud"for him at this point in his life. Thankful that he came out and gave it a great effort though! We love Al Green!!

    Don’t look so sad … i know it’s over 😂

by Detroit313 on 11/27/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

I was excited when I heard that Al Green was coming to the city I purchase the tickets for my mother-in-law and myself, and we were very excited. The concert was supposed to start at eight he did not arrive until 8:40 PM and then he left at 9:40 PM so we had less than an hour worth of concert. To make it even worse there were no other artist featured, and that would have been OK because our green can do a whole session by himself but if you’re not going to play for the entire time, then you should have at least brought an opening act with you. When he stated that it was time for him to get out of here I was so confused I was really looking forward to hearing more of his music but instead I had to sing amazing grace twice lol

    Disappointed

by Shelly on 11/27/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

It was terrible. Seemed unorganized. Terrible comedian, seemed like they just threw a guy out there cuz Angela Winbush didn’t open and Al Greene was late. Think he was sick. The concert should have been cancelled. Al has to be in his 70’s. That’s dangerous to push him like that. He Barely sang. Started the lyrics and the audience sang most of the song. He was on the stage barely a hour. Took longer to get out of the parking garage. Would like my mom net back. It was a shame. Was looking forward to her a legend, only to hear a let down.

    To quick

by Nickie on 11/27/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

The cost of the tickets were too high for him to only give us 1 hour exactly. There should have been another artist added to the line up . The comedian was trash at the beginning of the whole buying time.

    Al Green review

by Aminia on 11/27/23Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Al Green was great. The opening act comedian was worse than awful. I didn’t come to hear all the cussing and the “N” word. It was embarrassing. I would have preferred some music by the band.

    Disappointed fan

    by NoDramaSista on 11/27/23

Al was over 35 minutes late coming to the stage with no explanation & left early . Although, I received a rose from him, I was disappointed in his physical appearance. I’ve no problem with the weight gain, just wear some clothes that fit. Since I was up close, his grooming needed some help…lotion & hair style. He can still sing, but I expected more.

    Out of Breath

    by Snooze on 11/27/23

I attended Al Greens concert at the Fox Theatre in Detroit. The band was amazing . However , Al was out of breath most of the time, he complained the band was too loud and he sat down most of the time . Unless he had tax issues , he should go somewhere and sit down

1 Hour Show. Shortest concert ever, $250+ Ughhh.

    by Tigers196884 on 11/26/23

Sorry and I've been a 50 year fan but the show in Detroit at barely an hour was just WRONG. No problem as Al sat most of there show but we were stunned as it ended so quickly. Way too big of a catalog for such a brief show. Didn't play so many of his hits including, Call Me. Wish I felt it was an even exchange for all of us. lots of grumbling afterwards..

Al Green is the Real Deal Still

    by A. S. on 11/25/23

We saw Uncle Al last night here in Detroit and the show was AMAZING!! He was a bit under the weather but he still showed up and showed out. I have to give it up for the band too; SPECTACULAR. We are so glad we didn’t miss this show. Thank you Al Green!!!
