About

Ain't Too Proud – The Life and Times of The Temptations is the electrifying, new smash-hit Broadway musical that follows The Temptations' extraordinary journey from the streets of Detroit to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. With their signature dance moves and silky-smooth harmonies, they rose to the top of the charts creating an amazing 42 Top Ten Hits with 14 reaching number one.

Nominated for 12 Tony® Awards and the winner of the 2019 Tony Award for Best Choreography, Ain't Too Proud tells the thrilling story of brotherhood, family, loyalty, and betrayal, as the group's personal and political conflicts threatened to tear them apart during a decade of civil unrest in America.

Written by three-time Obie Award winner Dominique Morisseau, directed by two-time Tony Award winner Des McAnuff (Jersey Boys), and featuring the Tony-winning choreography of Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys, On Your Feet!), the unforgettable story of this legendary quintet is set to the beat of the group's treasured hits, including "My Girl," "Just My Imagination," "Get Ready," "Papa Was a Rolling Stone," and so many more.

    Absolutely fantastic

I went to see Ain't too proud for my birthday this past weekend. The show was ABSOLUTELY fantastic! As a Temptations fan, the actors/actresses did not disappoint. The energy was high, the singing was phenomenal, the narration was amazing and of course the story was one for the history books. I would book a ticket to see this show two or three more times in a heart beat. I how this show returns to my city. A must see for sure!

Not only was it about the Mighty, mighty Temptations but it was also a history lesson as well. Wasn't here long enough because I definitely would have gone back to see it again.

    Outstanding

by Jacksjus on 6/6/22Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This was an outstanding by the actors, orchestra, and stage crew. The entire set was gorgeous and I loved how the sets weaved in and out. The actors almost never took a single break during the entire show. I would love to see this one again in another city. The Cadillac theatre itself was a let down. They did not have enough concession workers to get folks back into their seats fast enough during the intermission.

    Trip down memory lane

by KneeC on 6/6/22Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I grew up when the Temps were at their peak. The music took me back to the memories of where I was when that was on the charts. The cast was outstanding, and the story was moved along nicely. This was a Father's Day gift for my husband, and he loved it as well. I loved how the story gave us information on the lives of the group as well as the juxtaposition of the civil rights movement the layers made the story more interesting. I think all of the main players were well cast but my favorite was the Harris Matthew, the actor who played Dennis Edwards he made me smile in the few scenes highlighting his character Everyone was great and I am so glad to have been able to see this production.

Best show I’ve seen far in my entire life!

    by Shanshan8491 on 6/5/22Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This show was so much fun! The music, dancing, and stage performance was absolutely beautiful! Very well put together- good mix of acting through scenes and incorporating the music with it. The audience is very engaged, too- we sang and danced along. These actors and actresses poured their hearts into this performance and I can attest they really emulated the original Temptations with pride. The singing was extraordinary…. The dancing was so much fun and made you want to jump up and dance too! I have no idea how these wonderful people are able yo sing and dance with such passion without running out of breath! By far- my favorite show I’ve seen in my 36 years of life. I’ve been to festivals, concerts, rock, jazz, hip hop, rap, dance, house- all different shows. This show blew them all out of the water- not even comparable. If you can see this show- you must. It will complete you. Thank you ti all the actors actresses and band musicians for giving me and my friend the best night of our lives!

    Great show and performance

by Le on 6/5/22Cadillac Palace - Chicago

It was a very good show. At the beginning I was just trying to figure out the actor's roles they were playing besides the obvious ones of Otis and David Ruffin actors who were great. All of them were good. I was looking for a skinny Eddie Kendrix but the actor played a good role. Some of the voices although good could never match the real temptation's although some came very close. For example, the actress playing Tammi Terrel was good but I waited for her to hit the soprano note, when she may have actually been an alto. Other than that, the show was very entertaining and I highly recommend.

Fabulous production from begin to end. Set design, Orchestra, and were extraordinary. I convince my niece and her mother in-law to travel to Michigan to see it since both could not make the Chicago production.
