Adam Lambert Concert - Not what I was expecting
by LarkspurSteve on 6/13/10Mystic Lake Casino Hotel - Prior LakeRating: 2 out of 5I left the concert disappointed. I had fallen in love with the music, songs and style that Adam Lambert had done on American Idol. I had not purchased nor listened to his CD prior to attending the concert. Although I know Adam can cover many genres, I was also expecting some of his Rocker/Rock-n-Roll stuff and attitude. Instead, everything was kind of this new age, slight techno, theatre/opera, etc. It really wasn't what I was expecting (my mistake for not checking ahead of time I guess).
Also, the second warm up band (Orianthi) was not my cup of tea. EVERY song sounded the same and there is no depth to this person. Just because she can play the guitar like Jim Hendrix (screaming guitar), doesn't mean she has to do it EVERY song. I wish I had had ear plugs in during her set. And at least at the concert, she couldn't really sing (she sounded like a low level talent singer).
I really liked Allison and am deeply saddened that her and Adam didn't sing at least a couple of songs together. (It was a golden opportunity which Adam had, yet he let it slip through his fingers.) Their duets together on American Idol were absolutely amazing and I was expecting at least one or two songs of this when I heard she was on the venue, but no.
There was only one song total on the encore which was a dispointment. His portion of the show lasted one hour, and then a one song encore.
On "It's a Mad World" which I recognized (and had really liked from American Idol) I felt he just raced through it to get it done rather than put some feeling and emotion into it. Same with "What do you want from me."
Also, Adam needs to learn how to dance. It's been a year since Idol, he has a choregrapher but apparently only for the four dancers on the show and not for himself.
I got the feeling that Adam has not yet discovored himself, and the music further demonstrated that. Also, the stage show was so-so (nothing spectacular) and the stuff that was playing on the projector screen in the background didn't add anything to the performance for me.
I apparently went into the show with too high of expections, as unfortunately, I left disappointed and wished I hadn't gone. For me, I should have kept the memories from his style of music from Idol going, rather than to have gone to the concert.
There is no doubt he is a very talented singer. His range was incredible. But I just got the feeling I saw better performances of him on Idol, rather than at the concert . Just my personal opinion.
