Ace Frehley Live in Concert

Born Paul Daniel "Ace" Frehley in Bronx, New York, Ace Frehley started playing the guitar at 13. He never went to a music school, nor did he ever take a guitar lesson since every member of his family played instruments. He spent the early '70s in a series of local bands. In 1973, he co-founded the American rock band KISS. He departed the band in 1982 and went on to lead a successful solo career. His 1978 solo output -- KISS: Ace Frehley (released as part of the KISS solo albums) -- went platinum. In 1984, he assembled, amongst others, drummer Anton Fig and bassist John Regan to form a group with a name that alternated between Ace Frehley and Frehley's Comet. This group recorded a series of demos throughout 1984 and 1985, and performed their first-ever live show at S.I.R. Studios in New York City on November 30, 1984. In 1987 he released Frehley's Comet and it charted on the Billboard 200. He subsequently returned to KISS in 1996 for a highly successful reunion tour. In 2004, he tied with Paul Stanley at No. 14 on Guitar World's list of the 100 Greatests Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Time. Frehley's influences include artists such as Jimi Hendrix and Albert Lee, among others. In 2014, Frehley, along with the original members of KISS, were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. His 2020 solo album Origins, Vol. 2, charted on the Billboard 200.

  • Loud, loud, loud, loud.....

The show started close to 30 minutes late and Ace came stumbling out. He seemed to lose his place vocally during the first few songs, but then pulled it together. My friend (who is a huge fan) swore he's been clean for years, so I can only attribute it to a neurological problem. His backup band was totally kickass, especially the drummer. The decibel level was around 120db. If you don't want ear damage, bring plugs.

  • Ace Frehley was AMAZING!

    by LadySpace80 on 11/20/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 5 out of 5

Ace Frehley has always been my favorite KISS member, and definitely the most talented. I'd never seen him play live before and I had been waiting to see him for 17 years. He did not disappoint me! Can't wait to see him again!

  • Still Smokin'

by Sparkybait on 11/20/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

Really good show. Ace and his band played 20 or so songs that did justice to his entire career both with Kiss and his solo efforts. The back up band was tight and each member had their own moment to shine - be it with the instruments that they were playing or on vocals. I would give the show a five star rating but for the sound level. This tour has him playing more intimate theater settings (so there really is not a bad seat in the house - I was 7 rows back center stage) but insisted performing at a stadium / arena volume level. I was glad that I read a review of an earlier show of this tour (our show was the fourth) and the reviewer complained on how loud it was, so I brought along ear plugs and was glad that I did, I don't think I could of stood being there at the volume the entire show was played at ( I imagine some people did some serious damage to their ears by being there). While Ace could probably play most of the songs that he performed in his sleep, he was dead on pretty much the entire show and while vocals were never his strong suit, he did fine...we fans go to hear him play guitar and not so much his vocals.

  • Ace rocked it!

by Iuliucci on 11/20/14Carolina Theatre - DurhamRating: 4 out of 5

Ace was incredible. Considering his past, this was one helluva comeback. If you closed your eyes you could swear you were at a KISS show from the late 70's. Songs like King of the Night Time World, Rocket Ride, and Strange Ways were included

Awesome! Ace was great and his band was rocking! Got to meet Richie Scarlet after the show. He took time to sign an autograph and take a picture with me. What awesome guy!

  • Ace can still tear it up!

by VM60 on 11/18/14Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center - ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

Ace put on a great show - his band was great as well. 2 hour set covered his own music and KISS songs. He plays effortlessly and his drummer had a great voice - like early KISS. Would love to see them again.

I have seen ace many times in and out of kiss, the last time I seen him was in 2009 and he was very good. I was blown away with everything ace did. His vocals, guitar playing, and his charisma all increase as he becomes more sober! Ace did not disappoint and I have seen him perform well over 20 times, this was definitely the best

  • Ace still rocks!

by Urko on 11/17/14Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center - ChesterRating: 4 out of 5

The show was great. Some mishaps like closing the lights down then waiting 10 minutes for the band to come on and house music playing while the bass player was soloing. Other than those few things, everything was spot on. They played for 2 hours. Over 20 songs. Ace did have some jokes about the other original KISS members which wasn't necessary but I over looked it.

  • by Anonymous on 11/17/14Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center - ChesterRating: 5 out of 5

Ace was great, played for almost 2 hours. Songs from all phases of his career. I would go again .

  • Great Venue, Ace was Ace

by FrehleyFan1 on 11/17/14Sugar Loaf Performing Arts Center - ChesterRating: 3 out of 5

Sugar Loaf PAC is a great venue to catch a show. Not too small yet big enough to enjoy a concert atmosphere as opposed to a club type venue. As for Ace and his band, get a little tighter fellas and know your endings. Ace will always be respected as an innovator and huge influence on many guitarists but the reality is that even with KISS he was a bit sloppy and forgetful in his leads. This night he nailed his solo in "Shock Me", but others were weak. And Ace, no need to bad mouth "those idiots" as you called them from your former band. Congrats on 8 years sober! If you're an Ace fan you'll enjoy the show. If not, skip it.
