About

Ab-Soul, a rapper from Carson, CA, is known for challenging conventional rap narratives with his deep, thought-provoking lyricism and distinctive style. He joined Top Dawg Entertainment (TDE) in 2007, where he became part of the acclaimed rap group Black Hippy alongside Schoolboy Q, Jay Rock, and Kendrick Lamar. His music often explores themes of personal hardship, philosophy, and social issues. He launched his career with his debut album, Longterm Mentality, in 2011, and his third album, These Days... (2014), debuted at number 11 on the U.S. Billboard 200.

Soul's journey has been marked by significant struggles, including being diagnosed with Stevens-Johnson Syndrome at age 10, a condition that severely impacted his vision and skin. In 2012, he endured the devastating loss of his best friend and longtime girlfriend, which profoundly influenced his music and inspired his breakout single, "The Book of Soul" on his sophomore album Control System (2012).

After a six-year hiatus, Ab-Soul returned with Herbert (2022), an album that showcases his vulnerability as he reflects on mental health, grief, resilience, and self-discovery. Fans and critics have praised his growth and authenticity.

In his latest mixtape Soul Burger (2024), Ab-Soul pays tribute to his childhood best friend, Doe Burger, who passed away in 2021. He had always encouraged him to create more upbeat music for his fans to dance to at shows, so this project serves as a homage to him and a reflection of the music he inspired Soul to make. Throughout the mixtape, Doe serves as a narrator urging Soul to persevere despite his challenges.

I knew this was gonna be a great concert but meeting and being front row met my expectations plus some. Ab-Soul is a showman and great performer. The venue was great, staff and bartenders were nice and helpful also!

  • Ab-Soul Soul Burger Experience

by _Near on 7/20/25Brighton Music Hall presented by Citizens - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The experience was amazing. Ab-Soul was cool to meet and he showed his appreciation to fans. He performed a great set and had great interactivity with the crowd and that made the show even better. Appearances by Michael Christmas, Kembe X and Python P as DJ were awesome. Performances aside, Ticketmaster, nor the venue, emailed me the info for the meet and greet. I had to rely on other sources to find out the information.

All good vibes, everyone was respectful amongst each other, the crowd’s energy was through the roof! Ab Soul & Kembe X gave the fans a show to remember, and their crew was all really cool too.

Amazing show with Soulo if you are a fan definitely want to see him live. 3rd time seeing him perform and didn’t disappoint. The Opener Fre$h was also quite entertaining. Look forward to the next time.

  • Wait for it...

by Ben on 7/3/23Rating: 5 out of 5

This was my second time seeing Ab-soul, and after a long time of hearing anything from him, seeing him at his last show of this tour in the states was like magic to me. The venue was hot, though, like more so than it really should have been. It was great anyway, and oh yeah... Soul!

  • eh. it was mostly the audience rapping

by Jim on 7/3/23Rating: 2 out of 5

was incredible to see Ab-Soul up close and in person, but the performance wasn't great. Most of the time he was paused while the audience rapped. A lot of the songs I hardly recognized. He's a super cool dude, but didn't really have energy. At one point he even said to the audience "oh, so its your show now?"It's like well yeah....the audience was more into it than he was the entire night. Maybe it was just the show I went to.

  • The b.o.a.t.

    by Walatta T on 7/3/23Rating: 5 out of 5

Ab-soul IS the b.o.a.t. His movement IS STILL intelligent. The rest is still irrelevant. Church on the move. Peace.

  • One of the best ever!

by Marcus on 7/3/23Rating: 5 out of 5

One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to! Ab-Soul restores the Hip-Hop feeling and culture during his tour. The intimacy and connectivity with the fans and crowd was A1.
