The group consisted of "The Aaron Neville Quintet, featuring Charles Neville" so there were actually 6 performers onstage most of the evening. Because it's a casino, the minimum age for admittance was 21. However, in other venues, the show would be fine for whole families. The program consisted of holiday songs, several covers (many of which he has recorded) a few of his hits, a couple Neville brother classics, and a few surprises. Those looking to hear more album cuts and hits may have been a bit dissappointed, but having seen him perform with and without the Neville Brothers, we understood that he empasizes pop hits and covers during his solo shows. He did a GREAT job of playing music in virtually all genres. R&B, Pop, Love songs, Country, blues, and Holiday classics. The audience demographic was quite varied, so it seemed he tried to please all. Charles Neville was prominently featured most of the evening and added a nice jazz touch to many songs. He performed 2 solo tunes also, while Aaron took a break, adding straight ahead jazz to the lineup. The band played expertly, and seemed to have fun, which was fun to watch. The audience was very calm and mellow (compared to audiences for Nev Bros shows) but gave partial standing ovations pre and post encore.
The Venue, a relatively new theater venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond IN (blocks from the Chicago, IL. border) is a nice space, with great seating all around. Floor seats are basically cushioned folding chairs, but they were of a decent size, and probably allow for flexability in arrangement when needed. (They have a mezzanene and balconies also). Parking is free. Be prepared for quite a walk from the parking to the "Venue" as it's located in the rear of the casino, which we were directed to walk through. Overall this was a great experience, and a fine show. I would recommend it.
