About

THE 1950s: It’s the beginning of rock n’ roll, the racial barrier begins to crack, the Korean War is over, and husbands are returning home. Ronald Reagan is a model for Lifebuoy Soap and Rock Hudson is “the World’s Most Eligible Bachelor.”

And women are getting antsy.

Meet Joan, Connie, Dottie, and Agnes. Four best friends living in Winnetka, IL. They meet every Wednesday for a Betty Crocker cooking contest, imagining how the prizes might change their lives. Their weekly gathering isn’t just about cooking, but a time to confide secrets and share frustrations.

Usually, it’s LIFE Magazine that’s read cover to cover in between mixing, sifting, and chopping. However, a different kind of reading material arrives. Shocked but inspired by the Kinsey report, their lives take an interesting turn.

A TASTE OF THINGS TO COME is a fabulously fun romp tracing the changing lives of these four Winnetka women from the 1950s to the sexual revolution of the 1960s. This homage to prior generations of women who blazed new trails features a rollicking original score of ‘50s and ‘60s music with great harmonies, all backed by an all-female rock n’ roll band.

Come join the journey of empowerment as these four women discover their own unimaginable, bold new future!

    Very Average

by Milosz on 4/11/18Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

In two words: Average / Overpriced It's not that the show is terrible, it's cute and easy to watch, but honestly, I've seen High School productions of higher quality and sophistication. The story line is moderately entertaining and the set is static with only a few minor changes in the second act. Music and acting were both decent, but frankly, it wasn't worth the money for a simplistic story and average set design.

The cast was amazing. I don’t usually enjoy musicals but this was enjoyable. The issues are unchanged to our current year. The jokes were generational & appeared to be lost to the younger crowd. I went with my Mom who lived through the time and she thought enjoyed as well.

    Sweet and Entertaining

by MairzD on 4/9/18Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Took my mom and her friend to this show (who both spent time in Winnetka in the 50's), and we all enjoyed it enormously. Fun, lively performances from all four actresses (esp. Dottie!). Loved the all-female band. Girl power! Sorry it wasn't fuller on a Friday night, but audience was appreciative. Comfortable, friendly venue. Parking options could have been clearer on the theatre website.

Loved, loved, loved the show. It was upbeat, funny and that music!! Wonderful time was had by all and everyone leaves with a smile on their face. Women in the 50's and 60's were ground breakers. Learn how life has changed. Not just for women and girls of all ages but great for men as well.

A Taste of Things to Come was AMAZING!

by ElizabethMB on 3/28/18Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Absolutely amazing show! The acting was unforgettable, the actresses were incredible in their roles. The music and band were also amazing. We loved the show and wished it didn't end! The venue is perfect as well, I had second row seats and was completely immersed in the show. I've also sat in the farthest row at Broadway Playhouse and still was pleasantly surprised by how great of a view we had. Overall would definitely recommend if you are a fan of musicals! The songs are catchy, acting is fantastic, and overall we had a very great experience.

    Fun night

by Heyduck on 3/25/18Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

It was definitely a fun evening! The first half was my favorite as you watched their early relationships and how different they were, but still enjoyed each other every Wednesday afternoon. The second half was good because you saw how their paths took different turns. The singing in the second half was at times drowned out by the background band, but it came around at the end. If you don’t fall in love with Dottie, I don’t know what to say!
