A SOLDIER'S PLAY, the 1982 Pulitzer Prize-winning thriller by Charles Fuller, has rocketed back into the spotlight, thanks to this 2020 Tony Award®-winning Best Revival from Roundabout Theatre Company. "This is a play that deserves to be staged regularly all over America--though it's hard to imagine that it will ever be done better than this. It keeps you guessing all the way to the final curtain" (The Wall Street Journal).
In 1944, on a Louisiana Army base, two shots ring out. A Black sergeant is murdered. And a series of interrogations triggers a gripping barrage of questions about sacrifice, service, and identity in America. Broadway's Norm Lewis leads a powerhouse cast in the show Variety calls "a knock-your-socks-off-drama," directed by Tony winner Kenny Leon.
Very well told story of murder mystery. Plenty of tension into issues of racial justice and injustice. Superb acting by the whole ensemble. Highly recommend.
A vintage play that still very much resonates today. Very engaging. Well cast and very well acted. Suspenseful. Nicely paced.
Me and a group of friends went to see A Soldier's Play and thoroughly enjoyed it! Great cast, Great acting!!
It was a very emotional, very intense play, and the story was well written and the cast was phenomenal! Highly recommended!
An outstanding face lift to part of American history. The actors were outstanding and really brought home the story. God Bless the men from the Louisiana Army Base that gave all for their country. A must see.
True to life story brought to life by excellent actors, fantastic choreography, wonderful lighting effects and exciting music — vocals and background.
The play was fantastic and the cast was extremely talented and into their roles. The storyline captured the audience and had everyone engaged from beginning to end. The only downside to this evening was the location at CIBC theatre. Sorry but Chicago has gotten scary. The play broke at 10:30 PM and mayhem was going on all over the loop. The theatre staff kept all of us from leaving and did a very good job informing us what was going on outside. But after we left the theatre, couldn't exit the area fast enough. Unfortunately, this overshadowed our enjoyment of the performance.
Cast was amazing. Show was well put together. Can't wait to go back.
Great play. The acting was believable and the story was well told.
Overall my experience was good. I enjoyed the production as a birthday gift from my wife. However the seats were poorly designed. Meaning each row was not elevated enough for the row behind to fully see the stage. As a result, if you were not in the first row, everyone in the rows behind you were positioning their head to find the perfect opening to view the play.
