THE UNTOLD TRUE STORY OF A BROOKLYN KID WHO BECAME A CHART-BUSTING, SHOW-STOPPING, AWARD-WINNING AMERICAN ICON

Created in collaboration with Neil Diamond himself, A BEAUTIFUL NOISE is the uplifting true story of how a kid from Brooklyn became a chart-busting, show-stopping American rock icon. With 120 million albums sold, a catalogue of classics like "America," "Forever in Blue Jeans," and "Sweet Caroline," an induction into the Songwriters and Rock and Roll Halls of Fame, a Grammy® Lifetime Achievement Award, and sold-out concerts around the world that made him bigger than Elvis, Neil Diamond's story was made to shine on Broadway-and head out on the road across America.

Like Jersey Boys and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical before it, A BEAUTIFUL NOISE THE NEIL DIAMOND MUSICAL is an inspiring, exhilarating, energy-filled musical memoir, that tells the untold true story of how America's greatest hitmaker became a star, set to the songs that defined his career.

  • Almost Shines Like a Diamond

The appeal of jukebox musicals may come from the comfort of knowing what you're going to get. Most follow a proven formula, inserting the artist's music (sometimes straightforward, occasionally with some fresh interpretation) into a rags to riches to conflict to redemption to rousing curtain call narrative. They're popular because they mostly work, especially if you are a fan of the particular artist. I cannot imagine a non-Neil Diamond fan enjoying "A Beautiful Noise."It definitely incorporates and celebrates his extensive musical catalog, some songs lending themselves better than others to how they are shoehorned into the show. Although familiarity breeds rapturous approval from audiences (just the suggestion of "Sweet Caroline"stirs up the crowd into a very enthusiastic frenzy of participation), the most successful moments of "A Beautiful Noise"were the fresh takes on "Love on the Rocks"and "You Don't Bring Me Flowers,"allowing the terrific performers playing Diamond's first and second wives not only a chance to really shine but also provide the show some organic dramatic character interaction as opposed to yet another number addressed to the audience as inner monologue or something. A framing device for a play or musical can be a clever conceit that helps give the work a thru line, a way to unite all the elements, sometimes acting as a surrogate for the audience. Here, however, I found the convention of a therapy session for the elder, recently Parkinson's diagnosed Diamond contrived and often invasive - literally there are dance numbers and scenes where Diamond and his therapist, sitting in bulky Laz-E-Boy chairs for some reason, plop themselves prominently on stage to observe the action. I get it. But when your protagonist's dominant trait is gloominess (lots of talk about clouds), insecurity, and shyness, the dramatic stakes don't feel all that palpable. And it was a huge mistake to build the fast-moving, entertaining proceedings to a climax that consists of what feels like an actual therapy session in real time, full of psychobabble, overacting, and clichés. It was an odd abrupt turn from sparkly Vegas fun to verbose Pinteresque introspection that nearly squanders all the good will the show deservedly earned prior. Most of that is due to the fantastic lead performance by Nick Fradiani, somehow still bringing star charisma to a role that asks it be tempered. If you close your eyes, you will swear you are hearing the real Neil Diamond, only sounding the best he's ever sounded! The production design works well in the Pantages, perhaps with less dazzle dazzle to accommodate tour constraints, but still providing interesting visuals, including a gorgeous collage of lighting fixtures that descend periodically, and just enough furniture and set pieces to suggest the locales of the scenes. Finally, of course there's the music. It is thrilling to hear many songs here come to vibrant life. I would consider myself a strong admirer of Neil Diamond's work, if not fully a devoted fan. In a fickle industry, I have great appreciation for our legends who commercially and critically remained relevant and created the soundtrack to our lives. Besides, my family comes from the same Brooklyn neighborhood as not only Diamond but another of his contemporaries, a superstar, perhaps the greatest star ever, his friend, colleague, co-hitmaker, one to whom I proudly declare my fandom, my adoration for. And as much as one would think I would be first in line should their music become a jukebox musical, I don't think I could handle it nor do I think it would work. For some things are sacred, and some legends sparkle brighter than even a diamond. One could say those icons are ageless and evergreen.

  • Great show. Less than great venue.

by NoHoPops on 7/26/25Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the show. Cast was awesome. Sound quality during dialogue was VERY difficult to hear and the seats at the Pantages are lumpy and very uncomfortable.

  • Good storyline, great songs

Too much poorly choreographed dancing, distracting from "Neil"singing. Should be more like his performances...

  • Neil Diamond's life and songs

by henri on 7/25/25Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

a well-produced, high-energy revue of the top-40 songs we all heard on the radio so many years ago - as such, very enjoyable: smart direction, decent acting, powerful singing, exciting choreography, and a light show that alone is worth the trip - obvious omissions in the storyline however (for example, how come we don't get to meet Wife #3? too much like Momma?) - but that's OK, it's never too long till the next song -

  • Wonderful production

by Joyce on 7/25/25Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I saw this on Broadway last year and I have to say the Pantages production with Nick as Neil Diamond - Then was fabulous. It far exceeded my expectations and I would see it again if it came back. SO GOOD!!!

  • a little too schmaltzy…

by SudySas on 7/25/25Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 3 out of 5

the kid who did most of the singing as Neil was WONDERFUL…but the book, the device of the therapist was so cliche…and the actor playing the older Neil was so self - pitying…it was hard to watch…still nostalgia wins out…

  • A Beautiful Noise!

by Maemoe on 7/24/25Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

My husband, daughter and I are fans of Musical theater! We love Neil Diamond and have listened to him on the radio, as well as record albums and DVDs for years! Nick Fradiani has a voice so much like ND that it's almost uncanny. That said, I was disappointed that he didn't try to replicate ND in the songs he sang, because, if anyone could pull it off, it's Nick. Oh well. The play started off a little slow with the dialogue between senior Neil Diamond and the psychiatrist. That said, as the play moved along and ND's story of who he was and how he became a Superstar was super enlightening and very well done! This might sound unusual, but there were several moments in the play that were particularly poignant (a sense of sadness or regret often with a touch of beauty or tenderness) to me. One is that the singers and dancers were not all drop-dead gorgeous and perfectly built. They came in many sizes, shapes and nationalities. First, I think it was so wonderful to watch what you would call a chubby person - one that you would not expect to see in a presentation like this one on the stage dancing and singing so beautifully. I found that I didn't watch them dance side-by-side and compare who was better, I just watched and enjoyed each and every one of them. The other moment was when we saw, once again, people from different countries immigrating to the United States. It made me think, knowing that almost all of us who live in the United States came here as immigrants. Seeing them standing there, I felt that those people standing there were happy, scared and hopeful in this new home they were coming to. About three quarters of the way through the play, I started getting a little weepy just listening to the music. When the reality of Neil's life as a young boy-feeling alone and out of place, just staring out the window (with Shilo), made me realize you often don't know what the stories of the people that you know were like when they were growing up. I didn't go to the play to analyze it, but after the play, when my husband, daughter and I were driving home, I just started talking about the play - and this is what I told them. So, in conclusion, I loved the play...and I mean LOVED THE PLAY, starting with Nick Fradiani (he was really so good that I forgave him for not 100% mimicking how Neil Diamond sang), the dancers, singers and costumes were superb! It was a lot of fun watching the stage explode with beautiful costumes, music and dancers. Thank you for the play - we LOVED IT!

  • A joyous, happy experience fromsuperb music.

The entire cast, musicians, costumes, and set took you to a happy place. The performance of Neil's songs were spot on. Nick Fradiani performance was captivating and me back in time when the songs were hits. Robert Westenberg's singing made my entire body chill from an intense experience. The entire play was an. unforgettable experience. It's a must see, hear and experience.

The Neil Diamond Musical A Beautiful Noise was Fantastic! Of course you have to LOVE Neil Diamond and his songs. It was difficult to try and not sing along out loud with every song. My sister (she's 82) didn't restrain herself and was told to Shhhhh. Nick Fradiani was Fabulous! He sounded just like Neil Diamond. Singing along with him to Sweet Caroline was THE BEST! I'd like to see it again!

  • Fabulous

by Momnitz on 7/23/25Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

I thought they did a great job on the whole musical. Starting scene with therapist. Each period of his life was well done and the way the songs were placed was perfect. The actors chosen were great. Neil then was amazing his voice was a great match to the real Neil. The now Neil also was great lots of dialog to remember, and then at the end, he also had a great voice. It was amazing, covering a man’s life with thought, humor, empathy & love. He was loved by not just one generation but many. I will see this musical again.

  • incredible venue & show, but phones going off!?!?

by la sa on 7/23/25Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

Saw the Neil Diamond show at the Pantages Hollywood and it was amazing, plus we had the incredible good fortune to have NEIL DIAMOND HIMSELF in the audience - introduced at the end!!! However, there were at least 6 instances of phones going off during the show, including one long term ringing during a quiet part of the show so everyone could hear it. I understand many theaters worldwide are issuing bans (even a 1-yr ban) to patrons who do not turn off their phones, or use their phones during the show. I truly wish US theaters would do this. I don't know if it is young people or older people who do not understand how to use DND or simply turn off the phone, but it really should have consequences.

  • I loved this musical!

by Angie on 7/23/25Hollywood Pantages Theatre - Los AngelesRating: 5 out of 5

The Neil Diamond musical tells an incredible story of his life from the beginning to present day through his music. The story in itself was very interesting and I was captivated. Now the music was amazing and takes on a whole different meaning now that I know the back story. Neil is such a talented song writer and electric performer. Nick captured the essence of his role as Neil Diamond then. He was fantastic!! This play goes down as one of my all time favorites!!! You MUST see it!
