It was a tremendous concert. There are many great guitarists out there, and then there are a few who seem to transcend the boundaries of a small humble instrument and leave us all amazed and speechless. Yamandu is such a musician. He possesses prodigious classical technique, but his music is anything but. It is hard to describe - it has to be experienced. It would probably be fair to say that such a musician could only be from Brazil, even though he played a lot of Spanish-inspired tunes. Informed by choros, sambas, milongas, tangos, jazz-tinged, sometimes tender, sometimes going at breakneck speed that leaves us mortals in the dust. That's Yamandu Costa. It's not even my favorite kind of music, but to experience it live, up close, at a beautiful intimate venue at a reasonable price is a rare privilege. The only criticism I have to offer is the fact that he chose to speak Spanish and Portuguese to the audience where the majority didn't understand what he was saying. His English is more than sufficient to offer small comments, just to be polite. But he wasn't.
One of the best guitarists I’ve ever seen, and Im a professional guitarist for 40 years.
Great show. Player interaction is great and amazing talent!
This genius played everything in the book. Yamandu played solo but it looks that an orchestra was following him! Lots of musicians and sound tech that I know were there to see this master!
