    SF Symphony Tchaikovsky

by tmfdds on 7/23/13America's Cup Pavilion - San Francisco

Great event with beautiful music, wonderful young violinist, lovely views of Telegraph Hill. The Embarcadero area is busy; need to walk for parking and lines were long getting to our seats. Walk ways in the venue are a bit noisy for good listening,

    SF Symphony

by SPLK219 on 7/23/13America's Cup Pavilion - San Francisco

Sound acceptable but much too much activity while the performance was in progress. Great solo by the violinist. Left at intermission because it was just too cold outside that night.

Check the program before you go on July 4th

by DesertSable on 6/5/13Shoreline Amphitheater - Mountain View

In 2012, we were anticipating a wonderful July 4th concert with patriotic music performed by the San Francisco Symphony! What a disappointment!!! We were unimpressed with the San Francisco Symphony. Choice of music celebrating the Olympics was out of touch with an Independence Day celebration. The conductor was monotonous and unappealing. The humorous "skit" was akin over-the-top musician geeky. The fireworks were ok, but short-lived & accompanied by non-patriotic music again. Then we spent 2 hours trying to get out of the parking lot. If you plan to go in 2013, check with the symphony first to see if the program will properly celebrate the day. Good luck!

    Not worth seeing ---Shen Yun

Without inspiration although the perfomance is not bad. Don't watch it with children. Constumes of the pair who did the production is ridiculous.

    Peter and the Wolf

Very well done. I do not recommend sitting in the front row. It is so close you can not see people in the back.

    noisy

    by nomo16 on 12/13/11Flint Center - Cupertino

I went to see the famous San Francisco Symphony. The hall was nice, but some people were noisy, because their kids made voices. So they should have taken care of them, but they didn't. I was so disappointed with the concerto. It itself was not so great than I was expecting.

    never again

by teacherfriendly on 7/6/11Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

I was so looking forward to the 4th of July celebration at Shoreline. I have attended other events there and many many concerts at Hollywood Bowl when I lived in L.A. This was the single most disappointing event for multiple reasons. While I know the SF Symphony is well-respected and I'm sure puts on fantastic performances, this time around I didn't see it. With few exceptions re: their musical selections, the choice of songs was perplexing...few seemed into the music and were distracted with ipods, conversations with others, etc. The only patriotic songs were during the fireworks. Sound system made hearing Miller's "Casey at the Bat" difficult to hear (or music too loud?) The fireworks were "OK", nothing spectacular, and certainly nothing to compared to displays we've seen in other cities around the country. Most shocking was lack of organizationto in getting out of parking lots after event. Officials were everywhere to "get us in" before event, but it was complete chaos getting out. We arrived to our car at 10:15 and didn't get out of the lot until til 11: 50. I will never opt to go to this event again for a 4th Celebration.

SF Symphony & Pink Martini, an evening enjoyed

by justalittlemusicnovice on 7/5/11Flint Center - Cupertino

With the Flint Center a great venue to sit and hear the music, the sights and sounds were superb in the Mezzanine section. The 1st song, Bolero Theme, set the tone of the evening in what amounted to a rich mix of music styles that encompassed the Pink Martini collections. The SF Symphony was terrific and provided much of the power and soul of the performance. From Classical pieces to the swing/samba of "Brazil", this concert was greatly enjoyed. I had invited a couple, who had not heard of Pink Martini, to accompany us for this evening and had trouble explaining the type of music they were going to hear. I just told them to relax, sit back and enjoy the evening...well, they loved the show and expressed that yes, its hard to describe, you just have to go, experience it yourself and enjoy.

    In The Pink

by Aquamarines on 7/4/11Flint Center - Cupertino

Although greatly missed China Forbes, Lucy Woodward was a stellar addition, and did an amazing job... especially impressed with how much material she assimilated in only one week... a true pro. The evening at the Flint Center in Cupertino was stellar, magical, and warm... as was each and every performer... to top it all off, inviting us to dance onstage to "Brazil"... my wife and I had the most amazing 12th wedding anniversary gift we could ever have wished for. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts. A night that we will always, always cherish.

Great show asusual, but Lucy Woodward did a superb job subbing for China Forbes. Do miss China and Hey Eugene, but even Ari Shapiro sang more to fill the gaps.

    Dukas' Sorcerer's Apprentice was amazing!

by JasonBuberel on 1/29/11Flint Center - Cupertino

If you love Fantasia, you will definitely appreciate the opening piece in this performance: Dukas' Sorcerer's Apprentice. The resonance of the bass oboes and tubas rattled the bones, just as it should. Both of the Prokofiev pieces performed were also very good.

    Wonderful performance!

    by Reen540 on 12/18/10Flint Center - Cupertino

I had never heard the entire Messiah performed live before- usually the considerably shortened version. It was very well done. The symphony was excellent, the soloists were great, the choir was wonderful. All contributed to a beautiful rendition of a traditional Christmas concert. It was nice to hear the SF Symphony in Cupertino instead of having to drive to SF. But I have some complaints with the Flint Center. I realize that they are a public college, and strive to value diversity and not offend any religion, group or person. But when you host an event that is distinctly 'religious' titled the "Messiah" for a "Christmas" concert, couldn't there be some decoration on the stage? The stage was COMPLETELY bare, not a poinsettia, snowflake or garland to be found, much less a Christmas tree or any other kind of decoration. The stage was beige and very boring. This detracted from the holiday spirit and was, frankly, very joyless, stark and cold. Couldn't a local florist 'loan' a few poinsettias to line the stage? They could be borrowed for the evening and returned. Give the donor free advertising in the program and the cost would be zero. This is the second "Christmas" concert we have attended at this venue with absolutely no decorations. It will be our last. We'll stick to venues with appropriate 'decor' like the Davies Hall, Stanford Memorial Church, etc. The second issue has to do with people being allowed to take their seats late. This is a very frustrating issue. The concert began at 8:00, and at 8:30 a group of 10 people came in and were trying to be seated DURING the concert. We were in the front area and having them hover for 10 minutes (whispering!) was very distracting and annoying. Of course their seats were in the MIDDLE of the row, which caused all the people they had to wedge by to have to be interrupted. NO ONE should be seated when late, and they should have to wait until the intermission to get to their seat if not on the aisle. The people who were on time should be respected (not to mention the performers!) and not have to watch an idiotic spectacle of people bobbing up and down as late comers force them to stand as they try to get by... The tickets are not cheap ($65.00) and the least we deserve is to be able to enjoy the concert without this distraction. So Flint Center, please honor your performances with some decoration on the stage and instruct your ushers on protocol regarding late comers.

My mother and I attended this concert for the first time this year and we were blown away! The SF Symphony was amazing and the Chorus was fantastic! We're going to add this to our holiday season festivities.

Great way to spend the 4th

by Anonymous on 7/8/10Shoreline Amphitheatre - Mountain View

This was a great way to spend the evening of the 4th of July. The SF Symphony was fabulous, of course and the Shoreline is a great venue. And, the fog did not make it's way to Mountain View :). You can get a real seat or kick back on the lawn as we did. Many folks brought full meals . . . The symphony did songs thru the ages and had a slideshow of major events of the decades (starting w/ the 30's). It was fun and the tunes were all things we recognize from West Side Story, Rocky, Raiders of the Lost Arc, etc. that fit w/ the decade. And, then, live symphony music to fireworks. Nothing tops KABOOM for me, but this was great!!
