Portland Trail Blazers History

The Trail Blazers joined the NBA in the 1970 expansion. Despite the presence of back-to-back rookies of the year Geoff Petrie and Sidney Wicks, they struggled, finishing last in their division five of their first six seasons. Then, in a remarkable reversal, they went 49-33 in the 1976–77 season, led by big men Bill Walton and Maurice Lucas, guards Lionel Hollins and Dave Twardzik, and head coach Jack Ramsay.

After defeating the Chicago Bulls, Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers in the first three rounds of the playoffs, they found themselves pitted against a powerhouse Philadelphia 76ers team led by Julius Erving, Caldwell Jones and George McGinnis in the NBA Finals. They dropped the first two games of the series but stormed back to win four straight to capture the franchise's only championship.

Title in hand, the Blazers would go on to make the playoffs 25 of the next 26 seasons. For 12 seasons starting in 1983, the catalyst was guard Clyde Drexler. In the 1989–90 season, with All-Star forward Buck Williams joining the team, the Blazers again made the NBA Finals, falling in five games to the Detroit Pistons. They posted a franchise-best 63-19 record the next season but succumbed to the Lakers in the Conference Finals. Another trip to the NBA Finals awaited in 1991–92, but the Blazers lost in six games to a Chicago Bulls team led by Michael Jordan.

The Blazers' forays into the playoffs continued through the 2002–03 season, with two of those trips, in 1998–99 and 1999–00, ending in losses in the conference finals. Beginning in the latter half of the 2000s, the team reached sustained regular season success behind notable talents like Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge, Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum. Roy and Lillard both received the Rookie of the Year award for their respective first seasons.

  • Great experience overall at the game

by Jon on 11/22/25Moda Center - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Enjoyed the game and thought the blazers did a good job of keeping me hooked and engaged. I continue to be disappointed on how expensive everything is at the game. I understand ticket prices and how those are expensive. But all the drinks, food, gear seems ridiculously marked up.

  • Everything a Moda Center game should be!

by PNW Fan on 11/22/25Moda Center - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

Great night and seats. The game was awesome even if the Bulls got the last shot at the buzzer.. and although we ended up sitting exactly behind the one utterly obnoxious heckler who stood up most of the game yelling so loudly that some of the Bulls coaches turned around from the bench and gave the guy some incredulous looks we just took it all in with some humor and caught what we couldn’t see in front of us on the fantastic big screen above the court. Atmosphere Plus👍 PS the “tipsy” ice cream was really good!

  • Great time

Process of getting tickets was simple, quick and the website using the map to find exactly where I want as well as the price range adjuster, great seats as well!

  • Broken heart

by Dave on 11/7/25Moda Center - PortlandRating: 1 out of 5

Took my friend's 13-year-old son to the game. Paid $800 per ticket.... $1600 total. All three Lakers stars sat out the game. Load management. The boy was heartbroken. Will never attend a Blazers game ever again.

  • Good start into the Season!!!

  • Spectacle was great

by Daniel and Susan on 10/27/25Moda Center - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

Overall experience was great. Paid a thousand dollars for 2 club seats and the view and cramped seating was not worth the money. Will definitely go back to the same event but will buy different seats.

  • Blazer Fever!

by PDX SAL on 10/25/25Moda Center - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Fabulous opening night with our talented and fast moving players! The energy on the court was fantastic. The trust in each other's abilities was demonstrated in all 4 quarters! This is going to be an epic season . Go Blazers!!!

  • Club level blah

by Casa Program on 10/13/25Moda Center - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Enjoyed the game it was amazing! However did not see the perk of sitting club level nothing special just shorter lines for concession and more tv’s. Otherwise 100 level would be a better value.

  • Good Introduction to the Team

by McPortland on 10/7/25Moda Center - PortlandRating: 4 out of 5

Always fun to see all of our players and coaching staff at this annual event. I liked seeing warm ups and the competitive short game. I missed some of the non-basketball, good for a laugh game competitions like bowling with basketballs. Enjoyed the mix of players and fans on the layup/free throw/three point/half court completion. It was well run and got the fans engaged. There were so many activities, there was no time for a halftime break to go the the bathroom or get food. Thanks for the invitation and making it free to the community and non-season ticket holders.

  • Benson Boone American Heart tour

by Aj on 10/7/25Moda Center - PortlandRating: 3 out of 5

I would have given more stars had I not had the issue with seeing the tickets in my account. Overall though, my daughter had the absolute best time ever!!!!
