Ohio State Buckeyes Football History

The Ohio State University first fielded a football team in 1890, and the team became a charter member of the Ohio Athletic Conference in 1902 before joining the Big Ten in 1912. The Buckeyes won their first national championship in 1942 under coach Paul Brown, and they've won eight more, most recently in 2024 under Ryan Day. Six players have won seven Heisman Trophies for the Buckeyes, including Les Horvath in 1944, Vic Janowicz in 1950, Howard "Hopalong" Cassady in 1955, Eddie George in 1995, Troy Smith in 2006, and the only two-time recipient, Archie Griffin, in 1974 and 1975. Ohio State has won 41 conference titles, including two while with the OAC, as well as 10 divisional titles. The Buckeyes have also won nine Rose Bowl games, most recently after the 2022 season against Utah.

While Ohio State has long-running rivalries against Illinois and Penn State, their rivalry against Michigan is one of the most heated feuds in all of sports, dating back to 1897. The Ohio/Michigan rivalry has always been intense, but it rose to another level between 1969 and 1978, as Michigan coach Bo Schembechler and Ohio State coach Woody Hayes engaged in "The Ten Year War" as both teams competed for Big Ten and national championships. In 2019, the Buckeyes went 12-0 behind the play of defensive end Chase Young, cornerback Jeff Okudah, and quarterback Justin Fields, before defeating Wisconsin, 34-21, in the Big Ten Championship Game, and losing 29-23 to Clemson in the Fiesta Bowl as part of the College Football Playoff semifinals.

  • Awesome and breathtaking

by Staceyss on 12/8/25Rating: 5 out of 5

First time for me and my boyfriend to attend a college ball game..He is probably the biggest Ohio State fan... The stadium is amazing even tho I didn't like that there were no bars across the seating...our tickets were bought in advance and it was like butter getting in because I put them in my Google wallet and it was so easy...I am already about to buy tickets for the 2026 season...I loved everything about the process of buying them because it was simple and very cheap surprisingly... Thanks ticketmaster....

  • Amazing first time experience!

by Brian on 11/25/25Ohio Stadium - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

This was our first time being able to go to a game and it was an amazing experience. The kids were in awe of the crowd and the pregame activities on the field. They were more excited that they got to make an appearance on the Jumbotron! All in all a great time was had by the entire family. Definitely recommend attending a game.

App was easy and tickets bought and used and shared with ease. Pic did not match the view from seats.

  • Excellent game experience!

by SHC on 11/18/25Ohio Stadium - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I attended the Ohio State versus UCLA football game with my husband, father and son. Although our seats were high up in the stadium, we still had an excellent view of the field. We appreciated the entertainment provided between plays and during timeouts. We loved the fireworks and the Ohio State band was phenomenal. We would definitely love to attend more games at the Ohio stadium in the future!

  • SAD ALUMNI

by Die Hard Buckeye on 11/4/25Ohio Stadium - ColumbusRating: 3 out of 5

Archaic and unfair!!! This is the most difficult ticket to prchase on line Pre-season OSU Alumni. By the time you gain access its too late. Cannot get decent seats together I have been doing this for years and have never come away satisfied

  • Terrible seats Not like picture

by Nome on 11/1/25Rating: 1 out of 5

The 360 view did not show a post right in the middle of your view in the middle of the field

  • obstructed view

by MT on 10/7/25Ohio Stadium - ColumbusRating: 2 out of 5

Seats were not worth it given had more than 50 percent obstructed view. This was not listed as such during the purchase. Stay away from B-Deck in Ohio stadium.

  • The game

    by Tom F. on 10/7/25Ohio Stadium - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

Game was great as usual. Elevator service, great. Best of all, I seemed To notice an improvement in the parking situation. I appreciated the warm weather. The college girls looked pretty hot.

  • Worth the trip

by Transplanted Buckeye on 10/7/25Ohio Stadium - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

I now live 1000+ miles away. But it is always great to come back and see the improvements. First time in several years as we have done some road games, spouses team trips, and COVID no travel. It has improved over that time. A big win always helps, but it is fun either way. Go Bucks!

  • Great seats

by Scuba on 9/19/25Ohio Stadium - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

The purchasing was flawless, the tickets were instant and I used them within seconds. The seats were actually not bad for 2nd quarter availability AND the fact that there was an obstruction. We could still see the entire field, just not the right side of the stands but nobody looks there anyway lol. Overall a fantastic time!
