    11th Annual Blues Fest

by Pat on 2/25/20Blue Ocean Music Hall - Salisbury

We love going to Blue Ocean and go often. This was the first time that we were disappointed. We went expecting to hear the blues but only a couple of songs were really the blues. Although all the groups were talented it wasn’t what we went for. The other people who were at our table also commented on the lack of the blues music.

    Great show

by 21BeachRose on 2/25/20Blue Ocean Music Hall - Salisbury

It was a fun show. I think the bands were in the wrong order though. They started with a high energy band that got everyone dancing and having fun, then switched to the sad depressing girl, then back to the dancing fun music. No one know how to react. The sad women should have been first, she was very good and people would have loved her if she were first, then progress to the dancing fun music and it would have been perfect The end was the best, he really knew how to work the crown and he enlivened the rest of the band

DG and Dirty Tricks were great. The Antiguas were not a good representation of the Blues and made my girlfriend and I leave before seeing Duke Robillard. Very disappointing!

8th Annual Winter Blues Festival was amazing!

by Atty23 on 2/14/17Blue Ocean Music Hall - Salisbury

It was our first time to the Blues Festival and it was awesome, I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys this kind of music. All performers were great, especially enjoyed the third act which had no vocals, very different and fun. My only concern was that it was a bit too long. I felt bad for the last performer as so many people had left, I think it was due to the time not the singer as he was great.

Weaker lineup than recent past events

by ricklat on 3/1/16Blue Ocean Music Hall - Salisbury

Overall not a bad blues show - Willie J Laws was excellent - a true entertainer and the real deal. And Darrell Nulisch was great - the closing act for very good reason. However it was a long night in part to due the weakness of the other 2 acts. The opener was just that - an opening act. All the right licks but not any better than your standard local blues band. And Dwight & Nicole were very erratic. While Nicole may have the best voice in blues the duo seemed like they had just met - not much continuity. An overall spotty performance IMHO. And it was a shame that she didn't sing with one of the other bands there - but she only performed in the duo. Dwight was OK but I don't think that a single guitar/drummer can adequately support Nicole's big voice (at one point she asked if anyone had a tambourine). Mr. Nick seems to do less each year. At earlier fests he played with his band. Or at least he jammed with an act or two (actually there was next to no jamming involved at this festival other than a couple of keyboard sit ins by the opening act's guitarist/band leader - Travis Colby I believe). But this time Mr. Nick was merely the emcee - a loss for the listeners. Will continue to recommend it though and will continue to attend as well. Afterall it's the best winter blues fest in the area - in February! RL
