I’m not a big jazz fan but got talked into going to see Madeleine Peyroux. I like smooth jazz and Madeleine was Okay, just a little too classic jazz for taste.
Madeleine Peyroux writes and co-writes lovely, interesting songs and usually delivers them so to delight her audiences. Something might have been amiss at this past Sunday's performance at the Birchmere. At times, those in my group found it hard to hear Ms. Peyroux's voice, although we were sitting center stage. The instruments sounded clear, clean and at a volume that seemed right for the venue. I have been a fan of Ms. Peyroux for some time which made the less than excellent performance a disappointment.
This show opens with Joy Clark (if you are lucky.) Joy Clark just signed with Righteous Babe Records, and I promise you she will be in the spotlight for the rest of her life and then-some. Talk about an old soul who sings with the sweet tea deep tone of the bluesy south, and can make a guitar look like it is working for her while she does it all effortlessly! Hopefully she opens for the show you are attending, wherever you are… if not be sure to check her out! NOW- I just got out of the Madeleine Peyroux show tonight at the Lobero Theatre in Santa Barbara. I used to play her music in the early 2000’a on my top radio show. I am a huge fan of her work. This show was filled with truth, humor, incredible composition and a killer band to boot. Let’s just say I took my partner who was unfamiliar with her work. She said it was one of the best shows she had ever seen/experienced. (This statement is coming from a die hard Austin-living music-loving person.) Even if you had no idea who she was/is her music is timeless because her range, cadence, beat, and wizardry with sound is so enjoyable to listen to. Perfect sized crowd, perfect ticket price point. She said “live concerts will save the world.” After you see this show you will believe that statement. Bravo and thank you! Merci à vous pour un moment incroyable!
Wonderful show from beginning to end. Super venue, very atmospheric. Madeline is a superb musician. Every song was a joy to hear. A great night out.
Madeleine is a brilliant artist and a funny and entertaining person. What a night! Sony Hall, on the other hand, is one of the worst theaters I’ve been to in a while. You can hear bartenders shaking cocktails during the concert, forks and knives being dropped by patrons and the list goes on… disrespectful, at best. Never again.
Great artist, beautiful venue, excellent service. Only downside was my seat. Could barely see the stage.
Our foursome were looking forward to this performance. The pianist was fabulous! The bassist was awesome! The drummer was great. NOT Madeleine Peyroux! She didn’t engage with the audience, had no zip and we all found her singing quite boring! Has she lost her voice?
The Madeleine Peyroux show at Jimmys Jazz club showcased the best of what live music is about. She was amazing, her band exceptional and the venue made it all that much better. Her voice got richer as the evening unfolded. Song after timeless song made fresh by her band and her interpretations. She and her group took us on a musical voyage from Portsmouth to Paris with stops in Georgia and Jersey. It was our first visit to Jimmys Jazz. Wowza! Great place! The sound, the vibe, the service and the menus were all outstanding. Cant wait to go back!
What an intimate and delightful experience being able to see a performer of such talent from three rows away! Ms. Peyroux was in fine form and her fellow musicians didn't miss a beat. My only wish was that they never stopped! Thanks for a great evening!
Great setting her voice was mazi g and all musicians were tight
