JOYCE MANOR IN CONCERT:

The art of the shambling, sub-three-minute punk anthem is alive and well with California punk rockers Joyce Manor. Ever since their 2010 debut the foursome have led a blazing charge to the forefront of the scene with their voltaic recordings and super-charged live shows. In 2014 and they showed no signs of slowing with the release of their third album Never Hungover Again. Whether they're tearing through early cuts like "Constant Headache" or inspiring mosh pits with new rally cries like "Catalina Fight Song", Joyce Manor always send adrenaline levels through the roof on their sonically-explosive tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Joyce Manor formed in Torrance, CA in 2008, taking their name from an apartment building located near lead singer Barry Johnson's house. They released a series of EPs in 2009-10 before making their self-titled album debut in 2011. The album was a hit with critics and fans alike, landing on numerous year-end lists and bringing them out on the road for extensive touring. In 2012 they released their sophomore album Of All Things I Will Soon Grow Tired, another frenetic slice of short, fast songs that earned universal acclaim despite clocking in at just over 13 minutes. In 2014 the band inked a deal with iconic punk label Epitaph for their third album Never Hungover Again, thrilling ticket buyers with the announcement of a coast-to-coast tour in support of the release.

    Amazing as ever!

by alxis.lee on 8/31/22The Van Buren - Phoenix

I’ve seen Joyce Manor 4 times now, in 4 different states. They were amazing as always. The venue (The Van Buren) had some cool architectural notes, ok priced drinks, kind bar tenders, and the CLEANEST venue bathrooms I’ve ever seen. Security did an amazing job keeping people safe with crowd surfers going overhead, and checked in on people asking if they needed water and were ok (it gets really hot) Someone did collapse at one point, but both the band and security were right on it, getting the person out safely and making sure they were ok. Over all great experience. Just wish they made bag restrictions more clear when purchasing tickets as my bag was 1cm too big and I had to have my bf loop back in the car to pick it up.

    Underwhelming Venue

by Jo Lawrence on 8/23/21Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

The sounds quality at the Palladium was surprisingly below par. Prefer the Fonda to this venue when in Hollywood.

    Dopest dope I’ve ever smoked

by Nando on 8/23/21Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

Good songs, all bangers. I wished they would have played more songs from “of all things I soon will grow tired” but whatever next show hopefully. Barry’s telecaster was dope.

    Memorizing

by Alecia on 8/23/21Hollywood Palladium - Hollywood

I’ve never been to the specific venue before. The line to get in was long but they way the venue team had everything set up made everything very affective. I had no issues finding the bathroom, the bar, and the rooftop smoke area. Each band looked amazing close or far away. I would definitely attended again

    Ok, I guess

by Brad on 8/19/19Webster Hall - New York

It’s not Ticketmaster’s fault. My review is based solely on my experience watching Saves the Day. Kind of sad actually. A dead music genre with an old crowd who still wishes it was 2001 again and still shows up to sing along to ‘freakish’ and ‘shoulder to the wheel.’ Myself included. Conley’s voice is what it is and has been since 2003/2004. No new songs really worthy of the band’s early work which is essentially what still draws their audience and what everyone over 32 years old has been still wanting to hear for the past 15+ years. Sorta nostalgic for a minute until you realize it’s not 2001 anymore. But Conley still manages to sing the same stuff literally 50,000 times and still makes it seem like he’s into it. The band also still sounds good live. Like I said, it is what it is.

Joyce Manor puts on such energetic shows!!

    by blxnk182 on 9/30/15Masquerade - Atlanta

Joyce Manor is a band that i have liked many years now, but I was always unavaliable to go to one of their shows when they come close to my city. September 26th, i saw them live, and it was the best decision i have ever made. Barry is a rightful frontman, i rarely saw him without a smile plastered on his face, showing the joy he has in his career, how much he loved having fans like me and my best friend shout along to the lyrics like its all we know how to do. the crowd was amazing, by far the craziest concert ive ever been to. after the show, i actually met Barry and i thought that was awesome because he met so many fans that were lined up and he stayed there and had a conversation with everyone. They are genuinely good guys, and i wouldnt hesitate to go to another one of their shows.

    Great high-energy music

    by 1000yearsold on 9/17/14The Sinclair - Cambridge

This show was just as good as I had hoped. They played lots of their best songs, including most of their new album. The crowd was insane! I expected a mosh pit atmosphere and thus stayed in the mezzanine above the fray. Watching the undulating crowd was almost as fun as watching the band.

Great people, great music, great venue. Security was very friendly and everyone played well. The set itself was great, they played older music, a couple new songs, and their most popular songs. People lost it for every song, but when the opening bars to Constant Headache played the place erupted. My friend was up there with JM and the lead singer of the Venetia Fair singing the second verse, while everyone was crowd surfing and just going crazy. They sounded super great, just as good if not better than on the records. Definitely worth seeing them despite it being my second time and their first time in a venue the size of the Sinclair. After the show, my friends and I got to talk to Barry Johnson, he was so sweet! One of my friends had a rough night and when Barry heard about it, he offered her a t-shirt, when she said she already bought one he said "well next time we come to Boston you're getting in for free, seriously you're on the list." And gave her a contact e-mail so she'd be able to follow up on that offer.
