About

Best known by the moniker Iron & Wine, Samuel Beam's stunning acoustic guitar and quiet voice once again made waves with the release of Ghost on Ghost, his fifth studio album. This largely experimental record delves into the supposedly disparate worlds of pop, R&B and jazz, meanwhile proving the singer's impressive versatility. The accompanying tour schedule included several appearances throughout the United States, as well as a handful in Australia. As usual, Iron & Wine showed no problems selling tickets, with fans anxious to experience both new singles and classic tracks. Ghost on Ghost came as a welcome followup to Kiss Each Other Clean, which similarly represented a departure from Beam's typical acoustic style.

Beam's musical endeavors as Iron & Wine began in 2002, when he released his first album, The Creek Drank The Cradle. This entire collection was recorded in Beam's home studio and mainly featured vocals, acoustic guitar, slide guitar and the banjo. Iron & Wine later followed up with Our Endless Numbered Days, which was recorded in a professional studio. Later albums included 2007's The Shepherd's Dog and the 2011 release Kiss Each Other Clean, which peaked at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 charts. Following the release of these later albums, Beam took part in multiple concert series, showing off a live voice that was just as gentle as what fans had heard on their favorite Iron & Wine albums. Although a handful of different instruments are incorporated into the Ghost on Ghost promotional tour in hopes of better reflecting Beam's journey into jazz and pop, the same poignant feel of this brilliant musician's tracks is always maintained for the sake of dedicated listeners.

    Beautiful venue, amazing show

    by L on 3/25/19Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

This show was an absolute dream. I have loved Iron and Wine for over a decade and was thrilled to see them live with a symphony orchestra. The orchestral arrangements were beautiful and the acoustic set was amazing. This was my first time in the Taft Theater and it was a beautiful venue. I'm grateful that the TicketMaster staff helped me secure an accessible seat in advance, because the regular seating seemed very tight. Entire rows had to get up to allow people in and out of their seats. Aside from that detail, it was an amazing experience.

    WOOO...huh?

by Kenzor on 3/25/19Taft Theatre - Cincinnati

Sam Beam is one of the most exceptional artist out there. I couldn't of asked for a better performance as he never fails to move hearts and sway dreams, HOWEVER, I am disappointed in the CROWD. He says we were fun and he was having fun, but I can't seem to shake that songs, and even him talking, was being interrupted EVERY 5-8 minutes with a "WOOOO", "OH YEAH", or a "please hear what I just said and respond Sam" comment... very irritating for someone like myself with hard hearing and could only snag a "nose bleed" seat. I just find it rude and inconsiderat to not even wait until the music is over to celebrate the song, or wait until he is done talking to respond back to him instead of interrupting... otherwise, his performance with the Cincinnati Orchestra was impeccable, and his solo set after was amazing as usual. Did not disappoint!

great show, great setlist with a lot of old favs

by dadrockfan on 10/11/18The Pageant - St Louis

The openers we're led by "Carl". A bit loud but decent set. Iron and Wine was everything I was hoping for and more. They played a bit of new with a deep dive into old favorites, too. The backing band was talented, a bit eccentric, and (mostly) blended well into the set. Only real criticism is that the venue had the AC cranked way too cold, my wife and several other people were muttering that they were freezing the entire show.

The best show I've ever been to! Sam is the nicest person ever, and his songs sound even better live. He interacts to the crowd a lot, and LA didn't disappoint either. Upgrading to VIP was also super interesting, and totally worth it. I would definitely go watch Iron & Wine again, because I am sure it will be a unique and special experience all over again.

House of Blues Anaheim is awesome, Iron & Wine NOT

by MollyMEM on 10/1/18House of Blues Anaheim presented by Cricket Wireless - Anaheim

My complaint is not about the venue (although the show did not start until after 9pm when the doors opened at 7pm - perhaps a way of selling more drinks & food?). I drove 2 hours from LA to see Iron & Wine, one of my favorite bands, but one whom I've never had the opportunity to see live before. The band has a long discography, starting in about 2003. Most of my (and the general public's) favorite/most recognizable songs are on the earlier albums. Sam Beam came out, and he and his band played 5 songs in a row, commenting multiple times that he "has to play the new stuff, and that he will get to the old stuff, not to worry." However, as the show went on, he hardly played any older songs, and when he did, he had re-worked them in such a way that they sounded almost nothing like the originals. After their last song, they only played one encore song, and then were done, leaving an audience of mostly disappointed fans. I feel betrayed by the band, Sam and even the music managers/etc who put on this show, as I feel it was all just a money-grab using the band's popularity to bring in crowds, but not delivering on the music that people wanted to hear. Perhaps if Sam hadn't said anything about playing "old songs," this would be easier to accept, but he had us all anticipating the old hits, which never came. I would not recommend an actual fan of Iron & Wine to go to this show.
