DINOSAUR JR. IN CONCERT:
Dinosaur Jr. have a sound just as monstrously huge and playful as their name would suggest. Ticket buyers swoon for the monolithic volume, fuzzed-out riffs, tongue-in-cheek lyrics, and passionate angst these alt rock legends bring to the stage. Long-haired leader J. Mascis blasts out masterful licks and pummeling power chords in front of three amplifiers that tower menacingly over his head, bassist Lou Barlow pumps out killer jams as he thrashes around stage, and drummer Murph beats up his skins like he’s hammering against an anvil. These monsters of noisy alternative are sure to rock out on favorites like “Freak Scene”, “Little Fury Things”, and “Feel the Pain” whenever they bring their ferocious sound on tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
The roots of Dinosaur Jr. lie in the Amherst, MA hardcore band Deep Wound, where guitarist/singer J. Mascis met bassist Lou Barlow. Following that band’s dissolution in 1984, the two reached out to fellow hardcore devotee Emmett Jefferson “Murph” Murphy III and formed a band. They dubbed themselves Dinosaur for their self-titled 1985 debut album, adding the Jr. diminutive later that year to distinguish themselves from a band of the same name. Their 1987 sophomore album You’re Living All Over Me became a major milestone in underground music, blending classic rock songcraft with outbursts of noisy feedback and punk angst. The band began to experience commercial success starting with the 1988 college radio hit “Freak Scene”, but Barlow departed to exercise more creative control in his lo-fi band Sebadoh. Original drummer Murph exited following 1991’s Green Mind, leaving Mascis the sole original member as Dinosaur Jr. continued to score hits into the ‘90s. In 2005 Mascis turned up at a Sebadoh concert to discuss a potential reunion, after which he and Barlow reached out to Murph. Since reuniting, the trio has released the powerful and critically acclaimed albums Beyond (2007), Farm (2009), and I Bet on Sky (2012). With their extensive catalog of old favorites and new gems, the group continues to be an earth-shaking force of nature at their concerts.

XL Live is such a cool space: Indoors, outdoors, screens everywhere for viewing beyond the main room. Quick and easy to get drinks, big free parking lot. not sure I need anything else in a venue. Dinosaur Jr. was great and LOUD, as expected. So good to see a band I've loved for so long and have them deliver like they did!
The Senate did a great job bringing in Dinosaur Jr. and Dinosaur Jr. put on a great show. Absolutely loved the entire experience!
Most unfriendly venue in Columbia. Avoid if possible.
If you’re a fan of guitar based rock n roll you need to see this band on this tour. They were loud and tight and played a killer show…there is not a band that can come close to the style and delivery of Mascis, Lou and Murph. They are an American rock and roll treasure that has not lost a step.
J played some of his amazing older hits...he was rockin hard as usual. The show was great as always! Dinosar Jr never disapoints. I also loved that a lot of people brought their kids! That's great parenting!
They sounded great and the observatory is the best!
Dinosaur Jr remains on of the most important and influential bands in existence. Their live shows are amazing. Absolutely great venue and wonderful performance. 10/10.
Perfect concert! Perfect place! Thank you for all!
Always a fun concert with their newer stuff and their classics.
The Fillmore is large and ample. This show was packed on the floor. There was available seating in the upper level and we were able to upgrade for a fee. It was prime seating and well worth it. It was my 37th Dinosaur Jr. show. GBV was a great opening act and a small appearance by Eugene Mirman was a nice touch too! The song set arrangement was perfect and the show was really great. Since 2019 friends have been asking me, "Is that the best Dino show you've seen?" because they really thought they just saw what may have been Dino's greatest show. They really have raised the bar. The song Gargoyle really gets everyone! Go see them statim!!!
Dinosaur Jr was amazing! I love seeing them everytime they come to Philly. Kinda cool growing old together in a way. But this show at The Fillmore Philadelphia was a really great show!
I saw them 12/2/22 at the Fillmore in Philly and they sounded fantastic.
Dino Jr sounded good but the venue SUUCCKKEEDDD will never go back.
Great venue, great acoustics, Dinosaur Jr. was amazing!!! I've seen them a few times before, but this night was special. The setlist was perfection!
Besides the epic lineup, the place is pretty cool, have been in boston for 20 plus years and thus was my first time at house of blues. Great vibes, great drinks, super cool show with guided by voices and dinosaur jr.
I would recommend this to anyone who loves dinosaur jr. They are the type of band that needs to be heard live and they are all such great performers!
Wasn't so thrill with comedian. He was good, im not in favor of comedians at concerts. GBV, band was great. Dino was phenomenal as usual. Never missed a concert in Boston since 1980's, this no different got hit by a car on my bike in hospital 2 weeks and went right to HOB to see my guys...now thats a fan...and yes it was a horrible decision and stayed in bed for 2 days after
The sound was epic. Just unbelievable sound this band creates. It was Dinosaur Jr. at its best, live. The Pageant was looking great, plenty of comfortable seating and easy bar access.
One of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. Played songs from all eras.
