The movie was shown with subtitles which was great since older movies typically have poor sound. The live music was excellent and enhanced the viewing of the film. Most of the sold out audience dresses in 70s attire and free photos were provided. This was an excellent event.
Such a wonderful event and the music was fantastic!!! Keep doing these events.
Screening of the iconic Gordon Parks film "Shaft" at the Apollo theater with Burnt Sugar The Arkestra Chamber playing the score was The Best! To see the film on a big screen (and for most, the first time ever seeing it in a theater) with live music from talented musicians, all that full rich sound, well that is How the Film Should be Seen! So much fun. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
Im the same age as Shaft and this was my first time watching it from beginning to end. The live score in conjunction with the movie tiok it over the top. It was such a cool experience, i hope it gets done more often, over a two day period and with more movie titles.
Burnt Sugar the Arkestra Chamber did their thing!! They executed the presentation of the "Shaft" score perfectly! The atmosphere, with the classic cars out in front of the Apollo and the way a lot of the patrons were dressed, added to the whole experience! We had a groovy time!
We showed up dressed 70s. What a great reception! From the time we walked up to the theater and saw a great movie quotes on the marquee. To the amazing vintage cars out front. And seeing the crowd all dressed up in vintage looks and so excited. It was amazing But of course the most amazing thing was Gordon Parks incredible movie and Bert sugars amazing performance. One of the best nights of my life.
