Annie Get Your Gun on Tour
Annie Get Your Gun isn't just a musical, it's an American institution. Originally a Broadway show with a slew of successful revivals, it's also generated a film, a TV production, and multiple cast albums. Along the way, the musical has racked up Grammys and Tonys, and its songs have become part of the American cultural canon. With music and lyrics by Irving Berlin and a book by Dorothy and Herbert Fields, the original Broadway show about the exploits of Annie Oakley was produced by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Premiering in 1946 with Ethel Merman in the starring role, the show was a long-running smash that captured audiences' imaginations with a combination of Old West imagery, romantic push and pulls, and a wagonload of unforgettable tunes.
About Annie Get Your Gun
Annie Oakley was a keen-eyed sharpshooting woman whose extraordinary skill with a gun was unusual for a woman in the late 1800s, and Annie Get Your Gun is a fun-packed dramatization of her story. The play begins when she first encounters fellow sharpshooter Frank Butler while he's touring with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show. Sparks soon begin to fly, and love is in the air between the two, but their relationship is complicated by professional rivalry. The show has lent more than its share of standards to the Great American Songbook, including such iconic compositions as "There's No Business Like Show Business," "Anything You Can Do" and "I Got the Sun in the Morning." Over the years, Annie has been brought to life by Mary Martin, Bernadette Peters, Suzi Quatro, Reba McEntire, Susan Lucci, Marilu Henner, and Patti Lupone, to name just a few. With each production, the legacy of Annie Get Your Gun continues to grow as it finds generation after generation of new fans.
