About

Andrew Bird is an internationally acclaimed, Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, whistler, and songwriter who picked up his first violin at the age of four and spent his formative years soaking up classical repertoire completely by ear. Since beginning his recording career in 1997, Bird has released 17 albums and performed extensively across the globe. He has recorded with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band, appeared as "Dr. Stringz" on Jack's Big Music Show, and headlined concerts at Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and festivals worldwide.

Bird performed as the Whistling Caruso in Disney's The Muppets movie, scored the FX series Baskets, and collaborated with inventor Ian Schneller on Sonic Arboretum, an installation that exhibited at New York's Guggenheim Museum, Boston's ICA, and the MCA Chicago. Bird has been a featured TED Talks presenter, a New Yorker Festival guest, and an op-ed contributor for the New York Times.

More recently, Bird released a series of site-specific improvisational short films and recordings called Echolocations, recorded in remote and acoustically interesting spaces: a Utah canyon, an abandoned seaside bunker, the middle of the Los Angeles River, and a reverberant stone-covered aqueduct in Lisbon. Additionally, Bird hosts an ongoing series of live-streamed performances called Live from the Great Room, putting the creative process on display for fans as he collaborates and converses with friends in a candid, intimate setting.

Shortly after receiving his 2020 Grammy nomination for Best Folk Album, with My Finest Work Yet, Andrew Bird made his professional acting debut in the cast of Fargo's fourth installment, which concluded on FX in November 2020 and is currently streaming via Hulu. In March 2021, Bird released his latest project, These 13, an album entirely co-written and recorded with his longtime friend and former Squirrel Nut Zippers collaborator, Jimbo Mathus. Captured live to tape, just the two of them playing and singing from opposite sides of a microphone, These 13 marked the first set of new music that Bird and Mathus created together in more than 20 years.

Andrew Bird at MGM Music Hall

by BAM on 4/16/23MGM Music Hall at Fenway - Boston

Easy entry. Beautiful venue. Handicap seating has no place to put drinks or food. Chairs are high and not adjustable. Haven’t been to a concert in years so forgot that there are performers before main event. Andrew Bird did not disappoint. He is a brilliant musician who brings creative newness to music. I have been following him for years . I was happy to see him live.

    Transparency around headliner start time

by Steve on 4/16/23MGM Music Hall at Fenway - Boston

I bought these tickets under the assumption that doors would open at 8 and Andrew Bird would perform around 9. I only learned at the venue that he wouldn’t go on until 10. It’s misleading, in my opinion, to advertise tickets on a work night at 8 and have the headliner start two hours later. Please provide further transparency around set start times so attendees can better plan. Thanks.

    Andrew bird at NJPAC

by Bryan on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

I love Andrew bird, this venue was really perfect for him the sound quality was really great. I enjoyed Madison Cunningham as a good fit but missed Andrew plucking the violin strings as she filled it in with her guitar. He played until 11:00 but I was disappointed that he did not play an oncore and no Roma Fade.

Been a fan for 20 years and he just gets better and better every year. Madison Cunningham was terrific and her vocals with Andrew Bird were amazing.

Indie concert on a beautiful spring evening

by Ibs on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

Talented musicians in an acoustically resonant arena bringing the world’s sounds to Newark. Praise be to their inventiveness, verve, and creativity.

incredible andrew bird show at njpac

by sill on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

first time seeing andrew bird live and so glad i did. the breadth of his musical talent combined with being a gifted wordsmith and having a great band made the performance a true joy to experience live. really loved the lighting. the njpac hall is also a really good place to see a show. if i had one issue it would be that two opening acts felt unnecessary (even though they were both gifted musicians). it made for a late drive home on a school night.

    The Bird Live

by Dave on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

The staff saw us through nicely, the opening act was very good, my only critique was that Andrew Bird didn't play more of his last previous album "My Finest Work Yet" but that's a personal preference.

Doesn’t really play much old stuff

by A. L. on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

I know this is a cliche complaint, but for such a great discography, Andrew Bird didn’t really pull much from the past. I like the new stuff too, but seems a bit odd to ignore 60-70% of your discography.

One of the best concerts I’ve ever seen

by LL Cool L on 4/15/23New Jersey Performing Arts Center - Newark

This was our first time seeing Andrew Bird. The music, venue, and the entire evening was enchanting. I’m so glad that we went, and I wish I could follow him on tour all over the country. Spellbinding and talented musicianship!

Great show, opening act was LONG

by Mainegal on 4/14/23State Theatre - Portland

This was a great show, my only bit of feedback is that the opening act was really long- over an hour. I was exhausted by the time the show was over… this is the only reason for my 4 star review.

Gotta see him live to fully appreciate him!

by ScottR on 4/10/23Michigan Theater - Ann Arbor

We were really blown away seeing Andrew Bird live. We've become fans listening to him on streaming services and watching Youtube videos, but, the live show really exceeds what we expected. His voice is wonderful, and the music is so rich and full when experienced live in a large auditorium. We came away with a whole new appreciation for Andrew Bird. I was expecting him to be a bit of a story-teller and was disappointed that he barely talked to the audience at all. I would have also really appreciated a little explanation of the spinning horn speakers at the back of the stage, though at times their contribution to the sound was obvious. Also, the opening act was a 30 minute drum solo by his band-mate. I found it tolerable and interesting, but my partner really didn't enjoy it.

    Amazing show

by Brian on 4/10/23Old Forester's Paristown Hall - Louisville

This guy has tremendous talent. The music was outstanding, not a note missed. A true perfectionist. Humble and entertaining. He needs to name every album “his best work yet”.

Great band, as usual the only drag is Ticketmaster

by DiegoMBucio on 4/8/23Old Forester's Paristown Hall - Louisville

The only way to recover some dignity on pricing live music should be leaving out Ticketmaster and Live Nation who have bought most of the iconic venues in most of important cities in the US.

The Andrew Bird concert was fantastic. Crowd was well behaved since it was a standing only concert. Bird played a lot of his work from different albums and was just wonderful live.
