  • Horrible

by xxDisappointedxx on 2/18/13Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 1 out of 5

I'm a huge fan of 70s soul music and was extremely disappointed. The show was poorly produced, the MC (Cuba Gooding Sr) never knew when the next act was coming on and had to improv the entire night. The sound mix was the worst I've ever heard. The performers did not sound good at all, sounded like the microphone levels were too high and thats when they worked. Of the four microphones on stage, only two were working at any given time. The issue wasn't that the microphones malfunctioned, it was that no one attempted to make any corrections. The microphones kept cutting in and out and started with the first act! The problem wasn't completely fixed until the second to last act performed. It appeared as if there was absolutely no rush to fix the microphones. Meanwhile the performers continued with their routines the best they could but more times than not it was the lead singer's microphone with the problems. I was very surprised that the performers continued and that speaks volumes of their professionalism. How could the Beacon Theatre not be prepared? I'm sure microphones malfunction all the time, why were there no back up microphones? The microphones that were eventually brought out malfunctioned as well. The Stylistics closed and were phenomenal. I know they had their own band, but I wonder if they had their own microphones and sound engineer as well.

  • 70's Soul Jam Valentines Concert

    by Dikah25 on 2/18/13Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

My Husband and I really enjoy this concert. I was most suprise by The Manhattans. They seem to have put life in their performance. I love the dance moves that they did. Really nice. This is the first time I have enjoyed them in a while. We also enjoyed the Emotions. We were amazed that Wanda's daughter has now join the act. Blue Magic Who doesn't love them. Stylistics This is why we come to this show year after year. All the acts were good.Everyone put on the best performance that they could. These are professionals. The young generation needs to look at this Generation. They know how to performed.

  • Brought back good memories

My wife andI enjoyed all the groups that performed that afternoon. They sure don't write songs like that anymore. Blue Magic had some technical difficulties with the sound, but it wasn't their fault. As expected, they went on as professionals and performed outstandingly! Cuba Gooding was a great host and we wished he could have the members of the Main Ingredient with him when he performs.

The show was excellent from beginning to the end. I have already recommended the show to my friends. I hope more shows are at the Beacon with this kind of music.

Best concert I have been too. Brought back memories from my high school years. Loved the Manhattans and Blue Magic stole the show.

I went back in time with singing the songs and seeing the actual performers.

  • The Stylistics were amazing as usual

    by marzmack2 on 2/18/13Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The show was great overall. There was early mike trouble which caused us to miss 1 whole performance. That wasn't cool. It started on time and went smoothly for the most part.

My husband and I loved the show!!!! Our music, our crowd, just wonderful!!!!!! Our only wish is that Cuba Gooding Sr had performed more and that the show was much longer with a few more of the 70's Soul artists.

The line up and the acts were awesome. The sound was terrible. It is about time the sound at the Beacon is taken care of.

  • Too Many technical Difficulties

    by Nelle684 on 2/18/13Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 2 out of 5

There were too many mics/speakers that were not working during the 3 pm showing. Especially if your seats were up in the balcony, it left a less than desirable experience. I was also not impressed with the acts. Some of the singing was terrible! The only act that was put together were the Stylistics, the others I could have done without. Not worth the exorbitant prices.

  • Amazing!

    by Lasiama01 on 2/18/13Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I am 33 and I took my mom to the show. It was an amazing show! I wish some of the artist that are out now was there to see what real performers and singers look like. My mom had a great time. The performers all look amazing and sound amazing. They didn't miss a note! I would go to a 70's show before I would go see any of these artist of today!

  • The Stylistics were stunning

    by Helen178 on 2/18/13Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

So I've been to quite a lot of the Soul Jam concerts, this year I was pretty disappointed, the line up was The Emotions, The Manhattans, Blue Magic and The Stylistics. Blue Magic were very good as always with the exception that some of their microphones we're not working (not there fault), The Emotions and The Manhattans were just about better than karaoke bands and The Stylistics were in a league of their own, professional and pitch perfect. I think the sound engineers were tone deaf as the sound in the theatre was dreadful.

  • The stylistics and blue magic were timeless!

    by Dee1128 on 2/18/13Beacon Theatre - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This is the third year my husband and I have seen the 70's Soul Jam concert. Each year the Stylistics have been on the show and have closed. Each year they were awesome and no year was the same review. They brought us back to the late 60's / 70's when were were in our late teens and 20's! We have so many great memories of that era growing up. We welcome seeing them every year! Blue Magic was also amazing as they were the 2nd year we saw them at the show. They also get better with time! Just like wine! It was our first time seeing the Emotions....beautiful young ladies, who have aged very well! So nice to see family in the group! The Manhattans were one of my favorite groups back in the 60's / 70's, but I don't think these are the original members. Also, the 2nd time seeing the chi-lites they were also very good. The main attraction as always was the Stylistics! They took us back to a place in time that no other group could touch! We look forward to seeing them next year! A little bit of a problem in the beginning of the show with the microphones, but fixed shortly after.
