About

311 in Concert

311 defined the 90s with a style that many bands would come to embrace – folding rap into more traditional forms like alternative rock and reggae. Their early 90s' hits "Down" and "All Mixed Up," tracks that carried their self-titled album to the No. 12 spot on The Billboard 200, introduced the world to an original sound that remains popular today. "Over the past few years, we've realized we're primarily a live band...and we're damn glad for that," said lead singer, Nick Hexum. Their fan base, dubbed the "The Hive", agree because every 311 concert is an intense, trippy and emotional ride. 311's most recent album Universal Pulse reached No. 1 on Billboard's Tastemaker Albums and Independent Albums charts.

With foresight and two decades of solid hits, 311 has turned the police code for streaking in Nebraska into an instantly recognized symbol for the meeting of ska, rap metal and jazz fusion. The band began in Omaha, Nebraska with Nick Hexum, Tim Mahoney, Chad Sexton, P-Nut and SA Martinez. The band went through several independent releases before signing with Capricorn Records in 1992. Their last album, in 2011, Universal Pulse, debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Top 200. Since the introduction of their first album Music in 1993, 311 has released Grassroots, 311, Transistor, Soundsystem, From Chaos, Evolver, Don't Tread on Me, Uplifter and Universal Pulse. On every even-numbered year since 2000, the date 3/11 has meant the 3-11 Day Concert, when the band performs an extremely extended set. Fans who bought tickets to 3-11 Day in 2012 saw the band perform 79 songs over two days in Las Vegas. If you're looking for their 2014 album, it will be out on — you guessed it — March 11.

In the summer of 2019, 311 is touring with Dirty Heads for what they said will be a hybrid of "alternative sound and good vibes." The U.S. tour runs July 2-Aug. 20. They will be joined by pop trios Dreamers and Bikini Trill for all shows, with special guest performances by The Interrupters on all but six dates.

  • Ziggy and 311 with Fireworks!!

by AKCryan on 7/7/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

It was an amazing night! The sunshine was out all day, the parking lot was HOT and filled with tons of great people but once inside the concert a whole new world......The Expendables were really great, enjoyed them way more than I thought, then when Ziggy hit the stage it was unbelievable. Ziggy is to me the most like Bob out of any of the Marley sons and he is AMAZING! His music is amazing and touches the soul, mahalo to Ziggy!!!! 311 rocked it! 311 knows how to party in ATL and they played their hearts out, it was super loud, fantastic, electric, and unforgettable. The fireworks at the end were a shock and surprise and the perfect end to a wonderful 4th of July.

  • 311 was awesome!!

by allybally on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Lakewood is definitely the best place for any concert. The opening artists, Ziggy and The Expendable were perfect to play before 311, and when 311 played, they were amazing. Loved it!!

  • Awesome Performance

by daviwavi on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

The atmosphere of the amphitheater was flooded with feelings of euphoria as these bands played. Perhaps it was something else (maybe green) that caused the euphoria but nonetheless it was an awesome show. I've been going to 311 for 4 years now and every year is better and better.

  • 311 on the Fourth of Jul-high!

by union88 on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I thought the concert was great! The energy from the crowd and the band helped to make it a success! Clouds of smoke, jumpking fans, nice weather, and topped off with fireworks! Loved it! Guy-to-girl ratio was also awesome since I am a girl! There were SO MANY GUYS! That is always a plus for a young single girl like myself! I will keep 311 on my Concerts to See list!

  • 311 was sweet!

I was not super impressed with the opening bands, but 311 was as always very entertaining. The venue was awesome. I really liked the way it was set up. My only complaint was with parking, but thats to be expected at any concert.

This was my fourth year in a row going to the 311 concert. It gets better every year. The music is fantastic. The overall atmosphere is just great.

  • Awesome - as always!!

by Kimberly311 on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I see 311 every time they come through ATL - and it just gets more and more amazing!! They always put on a good show with lots of good energy!! I was pleasantly surprised to find out there was a fire-works display after the concert! I always feel like they go all out when they come to ATL!

  • 311 on the 4th

by hoover on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

As always 311 put on a great show and kicked our a**ses. I was in the pits and for the most part everyone was pretty cool. There was a couple of people who need to learn how to practice personal hygiene a little bit better. 311 brought it as usual but I was kinda hoping for a major changeup in the setlist for the Atl show but didn't happen. The band didn't seem like they were in the best of moods for whatever reason. But nevertheless I would still recommend anyone to go and see them live because they are for real.

  • 311 continues to blow my mind!

by inzuvious on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

This was my 5th consecutive year seeing 311 at Lakewood Amphitheater, and it was also by far the best. The band played songs from every album, the environment was uplifting, and the firework show at the end was spectacular.

  • 311 on Fourth of July

by Miss3Eleven on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

I’ve been to over twenty 311 shows in the past ten years and while they are my favorite band, this show was not the most memorable. The majority of the songs played were off the new album, which I am not too keen to. The last half of the show was definitely dedicated to the long time 311 fans as they remixed old songs from their Music, Grassroots, and Blue (self titled) albums before setting off a five minute fireworks show with Jimi Hendrix’s version of “The Star Spangled Banner” playing. Overall, I will remember this show for many years to come as it was an awesome way to spend the Fourth of July; but musically, it does not compare to half of their shows I’ve seen.

  • What an eventful night!

by 311Junkie on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

First off the musicians that played were extremely talented. I had never heard of the Expendables but they play really good music and performed well live. Ziggy Marley played mostly his dads songs but he was still very talented. I enjoyed the percussion from ziggy's band. Last but not least 311!!! They played a great show, ended up mixing up the new and the old songs very well. At the end they had an encore and they shot off fire works for fourth of july. Besides all of the trashed and stoned people, it was a really good concert. I will definetly be going again next year. I recommend this show 100 percent.

  • 311 and Ziggy. Awesome!! Nice Venue!

by WillyMo on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

First things first. Parking was relatively easy and close and 1 security check at the gate to check pockets but didnt take long and was easy to arrive on time. The Expendables played first, but I only caught half their set. They played a good set and I ended up buying 2 cds of theirs after the show! It was a high energy set for the most part, but people were still walking in by this point. Then Ziggy played and everybody started dancing almost immediately, it was soo chill. This had to be one of the chillest concerts Ive been to. 311 proceeded to blow our minds and everybody was dancing their butts off. Also the show was on July 4th so some ppl were shooting off fireworks. After a pretty long concert, they did a professional fireworks show at the end. It was a good fireworks show too.

  • Awesome Show

by AUTigers77 on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

As always 311 put on an amazing show. Ziggy Marley and The Expendables were also a decent opening act. Played about half new stuff and half old stuff so it was a good mix.

  • 311 on 7-4 is the only way to spend it

by livematrix182 on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Went to see 311 on Independence Day. Expendables started the rocking, Ziggy Marley kicked it up a notch, and 311 delivered. They played a variety of hits from their collection, and a bunch of hits from their NEW CD (btw...IT ROCKS TOO)

  • All of these bands were awesome!

by Supastah on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

The Expendables opened and they were really good! A band from CA and I will definitely look at more of their music! Ziggy was next and had the crowd dancing, esp. a really drunk guy in front of me on the lawn that clearly loved Bob Marley. Then lastly, 311 came out and played a lot of their newer music was pretty good too. The did songs like All Mixed Up and Down but most of their music was new. Overall I had a good time in the lawn seating than with regular seating :) For only 3 bands it started at 630 and lasted until 11ish so good times!

  • peanut Rocked out!!!

by Gabby1975 on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

They put on one heck of a show! They played Homegrown and I have never seen that live. They were so on!

  • Owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!

by MiMi1031 on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

Awesome performance as usual....I have already seen 311 once this year in St. Augustine and overall I have seen them at least 7 times. I am never disappointed and they always put on a great show! Lakewood has definitely improved as well....the last time I came it was under different ownership and the rules they imposed were ridiculous. It didn't even feel like a concert they were so strict! But overall 311 is a really great band and they know how to please the crowd.

  • Short performance left me confused.

by drumercalzone09 on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 3 out of 5

While the energy was there, on the stage and in the crowd, I left the concert somewhat confused and empty. 311 attempted to morph several songs together at one point, but the end result reminded me more of a high-school cheerleading exhibition than the seamless transitions that I anticipated. It would have been a smarter decision to drop one of the opening acts and play for more time! It would allow them to play more songs, and get rid of that mix thing.

  • Whoaooo... Yellow is the color of your energy

by JLuthor on 7/6/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

I wasn't really a big fan of 311 and I didn't even know that Ziggy Marley made music, but after the show I shall be getting the new 311 album and their greatest hits and some of Ziggy's stuff too! Unfortunately I didn't get to Lakewood in time to catch the Expendables. It was a pretty awesome show though and the fireworks were a nice touch!
