About

311 in Concert

311 defined the 90s with a style that many bands would come to embrace – folding rap into more traditional forms like alternative rock and reggae. Their early 90s' hits "Down" and "All Mixed Up," tracks that carried their self-titled album to the No. 12 spot on The Billboard 200, introduced the world to an original sound that remains popular today. "Over the past few years, we've realized we're primarily a live band...and we're damn glad for that," said lead singer, Nick Hexum. Their fan base, dubbed the "The Hive", agree because every 311 concert is an intense, trippy and emotional ride. 311's most recent album Universal Pulse reached No. 1 on Billboard's Tastemaker Albums and Independent Albums charts.

With foresight and two decades of solid hits, 311 has turned the police code for streaking in Nebraska into an instantly recognized symbol for the meeting of ska, rap metal and jazz fusion. The band began in Omaha, Nebraska with Nick Hexum, Tim Mahoney, Chad Sexton, P-Nut and SA Martinez. The band went through several independent releases before signing with Capricorn Records in 1992. Their last album, in 2011, Universal Pulse, debuted at No. 7 on the Billboard Top 200. Since the introduction of their first album Music in 1993, 311 has released Grassroots, 311, Transistor, Soundsystem, From Chaos, Evolver, Don't Tread on Me, Uplifter and Universal Pulse. On every even-numbered year since 2000, the date 3/11 has meant the 3-11 Day Concert, when the band performs an extremely extended set. Fans who bought tickets to 3-11 Day in 2012 saw the band perform 79 songs over two days in Las Vegas. If you're looking for their 2014 album, it will be out on — you guessed it — March 11.

In the summer of 2019, 311 is touring with Dirty Heads for what they said will be a hybrid of "alternative sound and good vibes." The U.S. tour runs July 2-Aug. 20. They will be joined by pop trios Dreamers and Bikini Trill for all shows, with special guest performances by The Interrupters on all but six dates.

  • 311 was forgettable

by DIANAfromSD on 7/12/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 1 out of 5

311 should return to their roots. Their new stuff is too punk, metal and trying to be something they are not. The back-up singer/DJ's voice is way too high pitched and honestly sounded like WHAM from the 80's. Their concert was short. Understandably since they don't have enough material. Concert goers were leaving by the droves after the 4th song that sounded way too much like the first 3. Boring! Ziggy Marley and the Expendables were great! Ziggy's voice has matured, sounds like a hint of his legendary dad, but is unique on his own. I would TOTALLY see him again! He has enough clout and material to headline his own concert.

  • Good for the old-school 311 fan.

I enjoied this concert. I only went for 311, but ended up liking Ziggy. 311 did not play my two favorite songs (Love Song and My Heart Sings) but it was still a good one.

  • Excellent

I loved Ziggy Marley, it was surreal and breathtaking. I wasn't a 311 fan as it was a gift for my boyfriend but I am a fan now.

I loved this concert from start to finish! My bottom barely touched my seat! Unforgetable! I am now a fan of the Expendables too!!! Sooooo Cool!

The show was awesome and the venue had great acoustics.

  • Ziggy was amazing!

The Expendables opened up with a really great performance. We were impressed and will look for their music. Ziggy was amazing! At the end of his set, his two children came out on to the stage with protective headphones on, and he picked them up and cuddled them. The message was plain: Love and family above all else! Great agenda and great role modeling. 311 rocked! Their live performance was just as good as hearing a CD! This tour is highly recommended.

  • Indecent exposure....

by Quietus on 7/12/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 5 out of 5

The Expendables and Ziggy were chill and laid back which was a nice start, and 311 brought the house down with high energy songs, especially at the end when they brought out the old school 311. Great show.

  • 311 unbelievable........Crowd was lame!

by JSKP on 7/12/09Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre - Chula VistaRating: 5 out of 5

As always, 311 was sick. I drove from L.A. for this show because the show in my area was on a Sunday, so I took my wife as a surprise to her first 311 show. I was anxious to see the intensity of the crowd in Chula Vista, since L.A. crowds always get a bad rap for their lack of energy. Cricket Wireless is a cool venue, the sound was awesome and its a good size. But its unfortunate that its being wasted for such a weak crowd. The crowd was an absolute joke. Right from the opening song, you could tell that this was a bunch of people that werent true 311 fans, not appreciating a good show when they see one. 311 came with the energy that has made them famous for their live shows, but apparently this crowd was too worried about getting drunk and acting like they never get out in public. If you have the opportunity to see 311, DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. But dont waste your time heading down south.

  • 311 was AWESOME

What can I say? It's 311! If you've never seen a 311 concert, you are missing out on an excellent show!

  • We danced all night !!

by Chattmedic on 7/9/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

July 4th...Independence Day, 311 and Ziggy at Lakewood...wow, need I say more? We rolled from Chattanooga to Atlanta early Saturday afternoon jamming some reggae and 311 to start the mood off right. In Atlanta we stopped for some local brews and sunshine before joining thousands of others that were descending on the coolest venue in Georgia. The Expendables opened up with a ska/punk/reggae/ bay area sound that knocked our flip flops off and made us shake what our momma gave us :) Bob Marley's son Ziggy was inspirational and set the mood for the party ahead...311 rocked the house!! Intense, wonderful acoustics and a like minded crowd kept the flow upbeat and smiling faces cramped. As the fireworks above exploded in celebration, a friend remarked...." I have the biggest concert permagrin ever...."

  • 311 ROCKED!

by veronicacrowder on 7/9/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

I went to see 311 on July 4th. The fireworks were spectacular, and the opening acts were awesome too. They went well to open 311. And 311 was totally amazing. The music was good, the singing was clear and beautiful. It was very well-done.

  • 311 Rips It Up At Lakewood

by Shelster on 7/8/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

First to hit the stage were relative newcomers (to me at least) The Expendandables with their blend of hard rock, ska and reggae. The band was tight and hooky and will probably be one to watch in the future. Up next was Ziggy Marley who I've seen several times before but not for quite some time. He was hugely disappointing with patois raps before and after each song that sounded like he had said them 1000 times before. He waded through a brief (thankfully) 30 minute set and left the stage without thanking the audience, slinging his guitar off to a tech and leaving his band midstream to finish the last song. His set was comprised of 40% ZM material and 60% Bob Marley material. While still a fan of Bob's I was expecting to hear more of Ziggy's material--possiblty something new?? Is that too much to ask? 311 hit the stage and after about 6 songs worth of horrible sound levels from the Front Of House techs, the crew finally got it sounding acceptable and it was much more enjoyable. The band ripped through older material and songs from their latest CD and put out tons of energy. It really made me wonder if my band and I (The Nerd Parade)would be able to pull off that level of intensity for 2 straight hours. The crowd was very involved and the guys all took solos highlighting their abilities. This was my first time seing 311 live after years of being a fan of the band and drummer Chad Sexton and I was not disappointed. Catch them if you can....

  • 311 on the 4th!

I really enjoyed the show but missed The Expendables! =(

  • 311 made July 4 memorable

by popmusik878 on 7/8/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 4 out of 5

You can't get better party music than 311 and July 4 is a reason to celebrate! The Atlanta weather was hot and muggy, but the amphitheatre was packed with fans. 311 hit the stage as the cool of the evening set in, kicking off 2 hours of live music. The band included lots of cuts from the new album Uplifter, as well as a good mix of older material - Atlanta got a nice treat in the form of "Homebrew" in the setlist. My only complaint about the show was that the band stuck so closely to the setlist they've been playing for most of the summer; 311 has well over 100 songs in their catalog - why not change each night up more? On the venue - Live Nation needs to spend some money on the concourse areas at Lakewood. The bathrooms (especially for women) are woefully inadequate, with long lines and dirty facilities. The concourses are disorganized and chaotic, especially when the gates open. For the ticket prices, we should at least have clean and functional facilities.

  • ANOTHER AMAZING SHOW BY 311

by JennMitchell on 7/7/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 5 out of 5

This was my 5th 311 show, and it was hands down the best performance Ive ever seen. My friends and I drove up from Tampa FL for the unforgetable July 4th concert and it was worth every penny we spent. I fall deeper and deeper in love with this band everytime I see them. The love for them at a show is so overwhelming; they have the most amazing fans.

  • disappointing

by cecily on 7/7/09Aaron's Amphitheatre at Lakewood - AtlantaRating: 2 out of 5

I look forward to 311 every summer. Im a huge fan and have never been disappointed after a show. I love them!! However this year i was beyond pissed when the show was over. Not only was over half the songs played off the new album (which i kind of expected, however 2 or 3 would have been suffice. Not 9 or 10), they went offstage for their encore after only playing 1 hour and 20 mins. Our show was cut at least 30 mins short for fireworks. Yes it was 4th of July but i paid money to see 311, not 30 mins of fireworks. I will most definitely go next year but i hope they will play the full 2 hours like they usually do and NEVER CUT AN ATLANTA SHOW SHORT EVER AGAIN!!!!! Still love them tho!

One of the best 311 concerts ever! Also the fireworks show was just great. Thanks to 311 for putting on a banging show just like they do every year. This was my 3rd 311 show and it was the best one yet!

  • Absolutely fantabulous!!!

They put on a GREAT show as always!!! I wish that Ziggy had played more of his music, but you can never go wrong with Bob, so it's all good! The fireworks were the icing on the cake!!!! Can't wait for the next show!!!
