About

With quick-witted dialogue and a playful score, 1776 dramatizes the impassioned debates of Philadelphia's Second Continental Congress. As George Washington sends updates from the military front, patriots John Adams, Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson attempt to persuade the 13 colonies to separate from British rule. Based on the letters and memoirs of America's founding fathers, this classic, Tony Award-winning musical showcases the principles, pride and determination that influenced the birth of our nation.

    1776 is a must see!!

by PeterGChristmas on 6/12/12Ford's Theatre - Washington

Ford's Theatre is a great place to catch a show and 1776 had me pleasantly entertained the whole time. I haven't been to many plays but I must say that I enjoyed the performance immensely. Bravo!

Unfortunately I missed the matinee performance because I was sick that day. I would have loved to see it but there was no available ticket. Maybe another time!

    1776 was excellent

by peperfan on 6/12/12Ford's Theatre - Washington

The acting and the singing was excellent. We enjoyed the pit orchestra very much. The production appealed to our patriotism, and reminded us of why we are unashamed to be Americans! We also very much appreciated the decorum that is maintained by the staff of Fords Theatre.

    Truly Fantastic

    by flatline914 on 6/11/12Ford's Theatre - Washington

I was blown away by the professional quality of the production and talent of the actors. Expected this to be a fairly small scale, lesser quality production. It was at least equivalent to most travelling Broadway productions, but without the high prices and large theaters. Sitting in the balcony was almost the same as sitting near the stage, because Ford's Theater is a fantastic venue. Could see every detail and hear every word. I would definitely see something else here.

1776 at Ford's Theatre was outstanding!

by McCourt on 6/11/12Ford's Theatre - Washington

I truly enjoyed the Ford's Theatre experience and the play 1776! Being afforded the opportunity to see the museum prior to showtime was both enjoyable and beneficial. Spending the night sitting among such American history was indeed a moving experience. The cast of 1776 truly did an outstanding job of bringing American history to life!

    The Best!

by Suzkiw on 6/11/12Ford's Theatre - Washington

I've seen a lot of theater over the years, and this was perhaps the best theater ever. The show is wonderful, but this cast of stellar gentlemen brought it to life in new and exciting ways. Thanks to Ford's Theater for assembling an amazing group of acting singers.

    Historically Beautiful: 1776

by JDinPhoenix on 6/11/12Ford's Theatre - Washington

This was beautifully sung and acted historical musical in a perfect theater for this type of show. History being made in an intimate theatre that has so much meaning that this great musical was even greater because of the presence of history on the stage and all around me. You don't get to see this kind of great theater in such an intimate space. What an amazing evening!

Three leads were okay. Abigal adams and john hancock were terrific. Rest of cast was good. Sets were good. Orchestra was good. Refurbished theater looks great.

    1776 was the best

by Hollywoof on 6/11/12Ford's Theatre - Washington

The music is great especially the first song. It sets the pace, the comedy, and their attention to historical details. Every student in schools should see this. They would have a better appreciation for our early independence. A must see.

    good, with reservations

by univprof on 6/11/12Ford's Theatre - Washington

spirited production and good singing but the portraiture of women was, shall we say, a little confining and even for its place and time, rather condescending ... sexual jokes with tom jefferson not very suitable for kids in the audience interval was too short, and when they closed the elevator, cut me off from 13 year old kid. which was Not Good
