About

With four Grammy awards and eight million albums sold worldwide, Yolanda Adams is considered one of the greatest gospel performers of her era, achieving a level of success outside of her genre that few other gospel artists have experienced. After singing in several local Houston choirs as a child, Adams made her debut as a solo artist in 1988 with Just As I Am. The album was initially criticized for its fusion of jazz with traditional gospel, but the unique sound soon became her trademark. She hangs with the best while on tour, making worldwide stops throughout her career and performing to sold-out arenas of thousands of ticket holders. Her style is considered one of the bases for modern gospel, with its fusion of jazz, traditional gospel and rhythm and blues. Some of her live concert performances, such as Live in Washington, have gone on to become Grammy-winning performances. In 2011, she released her 11th studio album, Becoming, to critical acclaim.

Adams initially captured the attention of gospel labels when she debuted as a lead singer with Houston's Southeast Inspirational Choir. After her debut album took off, so, too, did her professional career, culminating with her most famous single, "The Battle is The Lord's". Her album, Mountain High...Valley Low, would earn Adams her first Grammy Award and a Dove Award. Along with several national honors, her career has been so genre-defining that in 2009, Billboard Magazine named her Best Gospel Artist of the Last Decade.

    Mother’s Day! Hallelujah!

by Lynne on 5/19/24House of Hope - Chicago

We really enjoyed the show. David Mann was an entertaining host. I appreciated that the artists were kept on a tight schedule. I heard that the show last year ran very late and that many people in the audience left before Tamela Mann performed. My friends who attended last year were very disappointed and didn’t get tickets this time. Thankfully, the timetable was managed better and we were able to enjoy all of the performances and get home at a reasonable time for a Sunday night. John P. Kee was listed on the program but did not perform. Apparently, he was replaced by Deitrick Haddon. I enjoyed Mr. Haddon but David Mann should have announced the change. Overall, the show was great! We will consider going again!

Not enough time for each artist

by Lady T on 5/16/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

For what we’re being charged for these shows we deserve a better concert. I was disappointed in many ways. Yolanda went over her time taking time away from the other artists. John P Kee’s band was so loud we couldn’t hear the singing. The singers sounded as if they were hollering over the way too loud music. Couldn’t understand them if you didn’t know the words. Tye Tribbet’s was given way too little time to perform. Overall, if multiple artists are on one ticket then the time should be expanded enough to give us time to enjoy each artist! I want to see live performances with more than just a medley of a few songs!

    Turn down for what

by The Virtueous Sisters mothers day surprise from the hubbys on 5/16/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

"I must say, the anticipation was high among the crew with so many big names on the lineup, but the experience was a mix of emotions. Yolanda Adams, though blessed with a beautiful voice, seemed to focus more on talking rather than performing, which left me feeling a bit disappointed. On the other hand, Hezekiah Walker and Ty Tribett truly stole the show with their energetic performances that had everyone up and dancing – they definitely knew how to bring the house down! While I appreciate the efforts of the organizers, it might be worth considering a concert featuring just Hezekiah Walker in the future – that would be something else! As for John P. Kee, we all adore him, but the sound quality during his performance left much to be desired. It was challenging to understand the lyrics to the songs we knew so well, and it took away from the overall experience. Despite our love for Uncle John P., the sound issues were disheartening, especially for those experiencing his concert for the first time. Let's hope for better sound quality next time to truly honor the music and the message. 🎶🙏 #MusicIsLife #ConcertReview #TCNCMFB #untilthenextone
