A Stellar Review of 'An Astrophysicist Goes to the Movies'

by Deon on 5/17/24The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Attending Neil deGrasse Tyson's talk, 'An Astrophysicist Goes to the Movies,' was an enlightening journey through the cosmos as depicted in cinema. Tyson's unique blend of humor and profound scientific insight dissected famous movie scenes, showing us where Hollywood nails the science and where it hilariously misses the mark. His charismatic delivery made complex concepts accessible and entertaining, ensuring that the audience was both educated and amused. For anyone fascinated by the intersection of science and film, this show is a must-see. Tyson masterfully breaks down the physics behind some of our favorite movie moments. He invites us to look at films through a telescope lens, spotting the gems of accuracy amidst the entertaining exaggerations. I rate this experience a resounding five stars for its engaging content, captivating speaker, and the unique perspective it offers on the movies we love. Whether you're a science enthusiast, a movie buff, or just in search of an enlightening evening, 'An Astrophysicist Goes to the Movies' with Neil deGrasse Tyson is not to be missed. It's a reminder of how fun learning can be when it's interwoven with pop culture. I left the show with a renewed appreciation for both the mysteries of the universe and the magic of the movies.

    Make America Smart Again (NDT)

by Boomer Mom 44 on 5/13/24State Theatre - Minneapolis

This was my second NDT lecture, even better than his previous talk in Minneapolis a few years ago. I love his ability to weave astrophysics (in easy to comprehend terms) with commentary on the human condition. Even though we are in the midst of a very polarized political climate now, he gives me hope that if enough people invoke rational, critical thinking (crucial in scientific methodology) in their everyday decision-making, our country can survive the current divisiveness.

    Very underwhelming

by Jared on 5/13/24State Theatre - Minneapolis

Neil was funny but this lecture lacked any real purpose. It felt under prepared and missed the mark for me. He didn't go into depth on any topic and kept his remarks to headline news titles. He failed to engage a very ready audience and had me leaving without filling any of the wants I had coming in. I was really and left feeling really disappointed.

    Neil de Grasse Tyson

    by Starr on 5/13/24

Very disappointing! Too much childish humor, not enough science. Extremely condescending and slightly political! We saw him the last time he was in Minneapolis and he was outstanding. Evidently, his ego got the best of him.
