Graham Nash in Concert
Graham Nash's long and tuneful career includes his singing with the Hollies' bright British folk-pop, the tightly harmonized classic folk-rock of Crosby, Stills & Nash (& Young), and his own deeply personal singer-songwriter albums.
Born in 1942 in war-scarred northern England, Nash was always on a high, at least vocally. He began singing airy tenor harmonies as a teenager alongside school friend Allan Clarke, and the pair co-founded the Hollies named after Texas rocker Buddy Holly in 1962. Nash-Clarke creations such as "On a Carousel," "Bus Stop," and "Jennifer Eccles" are just a few of the Merseybeat combo's more than 30 charting singles.
Following a life-changing evening of music at soon-to-be-girlfriend Joni Mitchell's Hollywood Hills home in 1968, Nash left everything behind to cast his fate with former Byrds member David Crosby and former Buffalo Springfield member Stephen Stills as Crosby, Stills & Nash. Nash's "Marrakesh Express" and "Lady of the Island," an ode to Mitchell, made the supergroup's 1969 debut album an American folk-rock classic.
The trio wouldn't record another album until 1977's CSN. Nash found a creative outlet in the luminous Songs for Beginners, the first of several solo albums, and Graham Nash David Crosby, which launched the duo's productive longtime partnership onstage and in the studio.
Nash is both a romantic and an activist. His ravishing love songs are counterbalanced by politically engaged material like "Military Madness," "Chicago," "Barrel of Pain," "Soldiers of Peace," and "Immigration Man."
A photo collector since the early 1970s, Nash auctioned off more than 2,000 prints through Sotheby's in 1990 for $2.4 million, a record amount for a single collection of photographs. "Recycling is fun," Nash commented as iconic images by Diane Arbus and Ansel Adams found new owners.
Inspired by a major life change, the two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee released This Path Tonight, his first solo album in 14 years, in 2016. In 2018, he released Over the Years, a career-spanning anthology. He's back on the road again and singing better than ever.
"I want my audience to know two things," Nash told Songwriting. "One, I want to be there for them... And the second thing I want is to see them smiling on the way out. That's when I know that I've done my job as a musician."
Great show. All that talent on one stage!!n It was amazing!
This was a fabulous, well organized and executed show. All of the performers were excellent. We will definitely make it an annual event.
The 43rd John lennon tribute was incredible, a biblical event. Graham Nash was amazing and humble, Judy Collins, still perfection. All in all it was one of the most memorable concerts of my lifetime ( and thats not a short lifetime) The audience was in sync with passion, respect and love for all of the talented stars that we were blessed to see. In addition to the iconic Mr. Nash and Judy collins, Art Garfunkel made a surprise entrance, Rosanne Cash,Marc Cohn, David Broza, Lisa Fischer ,The Kennedys, Betty LaVette, Willie Nile, Rich Pagano and the host Joe Raiola also graced the stage all singing the heartfelt music of the incredible Joh Lennon, how blessed are we have this in our lives! I sang, I smiled, I cried and this will be in my heart until I leave this earth, thank you to all of the musicians and goes without saying thank you from heart to the brilliant John Lennon!
Great balcony seats, fabulous sound, all artists outstanding! Was most love filled show since Concert for George! Special extra added attraction, Art Garfunkel!! Perfect house band!!
The concert was amazing! Listening to Lennon’s music is transcending. Graham Nash was wonderful and deserving of the Real Live award!
We were thrilled to be in the audience at Town Hall for the 43rd Annual John Lennon Tribute honoring Graham Nash. We have many vinyl albums of Crosby, Stills, Nash (& Young) and have been lucky enough to see them perform live as well as Judy Collins & Rosanne Cash. The lineup of Bettye LaVette, David Broza, The Kennedys and Willie Nile was fantastic as well as the surprise guest appearance of Art Garfunkle. A memorable show to start the holiday season and wonderful music by John Lennon.
Graham Nash has proven once again how amazing his talent is. His voice is as good today as when he was singing with Hollies in 1965. He looks twenty years younger than his age. And what a great head of hair! He is simply amazing in every sense of the word. BRAVO!
The lineup of performers was great and the amount of time devoted to each was appropriate. Graham Nash was excellent and I was glad to hear one of his own songs at the end in addition to all the great Lennon music. Seeing Art Garfunkel as the special guest was indeed special. I particularly liked the photos in the background. Each was well chosen to accompany a particular song and remained through the song, rather than a moving montage that can be distracting. All in all, a spectacular performance!
A stellar group of performers supporting a stellar organization. But Graham Nash, Judy Collins and Art Garfunkel singing? Mind blowing!
TWonderful show with incredible musicians. Graham Nash is an icon and deservedly so!!!c
