My daughter, who is 14, and I went to the show for our date night and were extremely disappointed with the show, so much so that we left at intermission. When you first walk in and see the stage, a fake dog is in the middle of the stage with a pitchfork-type tool sticking out of the dog, which was an immediate turn-off for us as we are dog owners. The first few words of the play were F-bombs, which was hardly appropriate for even me. The play then moved into very mature subject matter with adultery, lies and just at times what seemed to be a jumble bit of action on-stage. We did not read the book that the play was based on and instead relied on the fact that this was a Tony-award-winning play. This play is for adults and not something to take kids or young adults to. We saw several people leave even before the intermission and did not hesitate to leave ourselves. I just hate that I wasted almost $200 to see an awful play (there was no orchestra or any other redeeming qualities about the play itself, but the Paramount is always a beautiful place to be).
