About

"Avenue Q" is the story of Princeton, a bright-eyed college grad who comes to New York City with big dreams and a tiny bank account. He soon discovers that the only neighborhood in his price range is "Avenue Q"; still, the neighbors seem nice. There's Brian, the out-of-work comedian and his therapist fiancée, Christmas Eve; Nicky the good-hearted slacker and his roommate Rod--a Republican investment banker who seems to have some sort of secret; an Internet addict called Trekkie Monster; and a very cute kindergarten teaching assistant named Kate. And would you believe the building's superintendent is Gary Coleman?!? (Yes, that Gary Coleman.) Together, Princeton and his newfound friends struggle to find jobs, dates, and their ever-elusive purpose in life.

An excellent performance of Ave Q

by MRM005 on 8/19/12Studio One Riffe Center - Columbus

Very well done. The performance was what you could expect of a touring company. Carmen Keels was wonderful as Kate Monster. I enjoyed myself immensely. I would recommend to all sassy and open minded adults!

Avenue Q Should Not Be Missed!

by ashlelizabeth on 8/19/12Studio One Riffe Center - Columbus

A play for the adult who is a kid at heart with a good sense of humor who also doesn't mind a bit of raunchiness displayed. The puppets are beyond funny and the actors delivering the lines are hysterical. Songs such as "If you were gay" and "Everyone's a little bit racist" had us belly laughing in our seats. This play is light hearted and great for all audience members.

Avenue Q has a lot of heart!

by stargazer46 on 8/14/12Studio One Riffe Center - Columbus

CATCO's presentation of Avenue Q was superb! There were lots of catchy tunes with funny and/or heartfelt lyrics. The cast did an excellent job, especially the four members who handled all the puppets, sometimes two at a time. Carmen Keels ( Kate/Lucy) was outstanding! The show also had some good messages and showed a lot of our human foibles in a humorous way.

Riffe Center is a small theatre, so the show had a very personal feel. The cast and crew did a wonderful job. The show was hilarious!

remember when you liked puppet shows.

    by 8182010 on 8/13/12catco - columbus

i love this show i also saw it on broadway. i think catco did a good job with the production. it was just as fun as i remembered the first time. i took a friend who knew nothing about it. she was glad i had talked her into going. we had great seats only 4 rows back and center stage. i lucked out with the tickets although there would be no bad seats at the riffe center. given its size i like it really well.

    Avenue Q

by AmandaGA on 8/11/12Studio One Riffe Center - Columbus

This production of Avenue Q was fabulous. I had seen it previously on Broadway and found nothing to complain about in comparing this with the original. Carmen Keels was so appealing as Kate Monster and Cody Shope showed his versatility in switching between his two characters to make each one distinctively different. The supporting cast, especially Patrick Walters as Brian, were all great fun to watch and laugh with. There were too many outstanding numbers to name just one or two. The set was great, especially the small TVs on either side of the set, which brought back the idea that this is Sesame Street for adults. Steven Anderson's direction, as always, was spot on. The Riffe Center's intimate setting was ideal. I attended this show with my son, who is 20. We were both able to laugh and enjoy the ribald humor. This production is so much fun. It will leave you laughing and humming all the way to your car.

    Polished, Professional, Pleasing Production

by Punchinello on 8/7/12Studio One Riffe Center - Columbus

Having seen the national touring company version of Ave Q when it came to Columbus, I have to say that CATCO's version is every bit as good and even better in terms of the venue. The smaller theater gives it a more intimate cabaret-like feel, and the amount of talent and energy that went into this show gave it an air of excitement that I didn't get from the road company version. Enough of comparisons, though. Kudos to Puppetmaster Beth Kattelman for creating the terrific puppets and training a superb ensemble of actors/puppeters. They all made it look effortless (which it was anything but). The overall direction and ensemble were simply wonderful, and, next to the puppetry, the most impressive thing was the amazing quality of the singing. The characters, both human and constructed, were completely lovable and easy to relate to. My favorite (probably everyone else's) was Trekkie Monster, the adult answer to Cookie Monster, who can't get enough of internet porn. He and Christmas Eve (the Asian psychotherapist) practically stole the show, in my opinion. Even if you have seen the show before, I urge you to check out this production and re-live all the fun.

Did not enjoy the show due to under and miscasting issues. There was only one consistent performer the entire show (kate monster). Seems that this shows was planned poorly when it came to the performers.

It was very entertaining. I didn't know much about it "Avenue Q" when I bought the tickets but I wanted to see it when it was on Broadway and never got there. I liked the moral of the story . The puppets were great and fit well into the musical. Excellent show and fun lyrics.

The show was fabulous! The cast was in sync and enjoying themselves!! The enjoyment was felt by the audience. Only one critique.....I was too aware of the people and less focused and aware of the puppets. I assume the puppets are to be the "focus" of our attention.

    Very entertaining

by Nate1973 on 7/3/12Cain Park - Cleveland Heights

An adult musical that is great fun and full of laughs. The cast is amazing and they bring the puppets to life! I think a few of the puppets could have been done better, but overall a wonderful production. The staff at Cain Park was less than friendly. Most were rather short tempered with guests and unfriendly. I only had one pleasant person out of the four I interacted with.

    Avenue Q cute and fun

by JanKam on 7/2/12Cain Park - Cleveland Heights

Very well done in all respects. Actors resembled and handled their puppets so effortlessly. Music was fun and sung well. Had the theater not been sweltering, we would have liked to see the second half of the show.
