About

TIM RICE and ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER's Tony Award®-winning musical returns at last!
Eva Perón used her beauty and charisma to rise meteorically from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady. Adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world — while her greed, outsized ambition and fragile health made her one of the most tragic. EVITA tells Eva's passionate and unforgettable true story, and features some of theater's most beautiful songs, including "Don't Cry for Me Argentina," "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "High Flying, Adored."  Don't miss the stunning new production of EVITA, directed by MICHAEL GRANDAGE and choreographed by ROB ASHFORD, that Channel 4 New York calls “THE HOTTEST TICKET IN TOWN!”

Evita - Not what I expected

by kbhe on 3/19/14DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Evita - rave reviews - powerful music - weak story line about a girl who slept her way to the top claiming to care about people but tormented by her quest for fame and fortune. Maybe if it was longer, they could give her more of a personality outside the bedroom.

    The music still follows me.

by SM4HIM on 3/19/14DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Haunting, tantalizing, naughty: All words that possibly could describe this story of the title character's life.....but the sum is more than all the parts. Each song or scene was rich with wry wording, drawing a straight-to-the-point character study, all the while amusing/amazing/shocking the audience. Saint to some, total sinner to others.....who REALLY was Evita Perron and where DID her body go?

Great show! Incredible storytelling, and everyone - absolutely everyone in the cast has a voice that will both knock your socks off and make you melt. Go see it!

    Wonderful Show

Fantastic singing and dancing. What you would expect from a Webber musical. If not historically acurate, still a good story.

I love the music and Che was superb. I was disappointed that the understudy playing Evita did not have the tonal quality I would have expected.

    Evita was incredible!

by Anonymous on 3/17/14DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

It was truly amazing, and I would highly recommend it. The chorus and lead characters were incredible. The 3 main characters had amazing voices, and the musical was very well done. The set was quite simple and didn't change much, but you couldn't tell because the actors completely transformed the stage.

The national tour of Evita exceeded our expectations! The production of top notch and each of the performers were stellar in their roles. One of the best touring shows we have seen.

What a wonderfully told story. And as usual, the Lloyd-webber music was captivating.

    Great show, but...

by Anonymous on 3/16/14DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

Am finding that more and more the orchestra and chorus overshadows the lead singer. This has the undesirable effect of making the words sound mumbled. If you knew the songs, great. But if you have never seen the show, the inability to make out the words to the songs kills the entire program. Not sure if this is a mike adjustment issue, but seems to becoming a regular issue. Great set, great choreography. Just wish I could understand the words.

Evita, a triumph of the possible

by Woodspirit on 3/16/14DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

The show was beautifully and highly effectively choreographed, with the dance telling by very successful suggestion the backstory of both Eva Duarte and Peron. The 'dance of the generals' was a chilling and highly effective representation of politics among the oligarchy that was Argentina. Eva Peron is presented as a very complex character with the best of intentions, so long as her ultimate ends are supported. The historical accuracy of that interpretation is not necessarily fully accurate, but it is very believably done. The only dissonant note is that the storyline seems to be aiming at some moral, but it is never quite clear what, other than that good intentions, if superficial, are insufficient. The show has a somewhat chilling resonance in our current times, as we watch the apparent rise of our own American oligarchy, which makes the impact of the show rather more powerful today than it perhaps was when if first appeared onstage. In other Andrew Loyd Webber musicals, there seemed to be several powerful songs built around a central theme; in Evita, "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" seemed the only memorable tune, threaded subtly through most of the other music. It effectively managed the structure of the play, but left one wanting more, perhaps. Indeed, that may be symbolic of the life of the person it represented: a single, bright, brief life that should have meant more than it seemed to.

Evita - Great Music, Great Show!

by mtt123 on 3/14/14DPAC - Durham Performing Arts Center - Durham

I have always wanted to see the full musical and the performance at DPAC definitely met my expectations. Student seats were in the last row of the theater, but we still had no problems seeing all of the stage and thoroughly enjoyed the performance and experience.
